USAID's flagship data and information system project, supporting countries to use data to improve health outcomes.
About us
The Country Health Information Systems and Data Use (CHISU) program is USAID’s flagship data and information system project. CHISU supports country efforts to strengthen collaboration and alignment around priorities for stronger, more resilient, and efficient health information systems and data use—essential if we are to achieve progress at scale. JSI leads CHISU with partners RTI International, Vital Strategies, Pendulum, Jembi Health Systems, and Global Evaluation and Monitoring Network for Health (GEMNet-Health).

Connecting health facilities’ electronic medical records (EMR) to SATUSEHAT, a health data exchange platform, is a key component of accelerating digital transformation in #Indonesia. Since SATUSEHAT’s launch in 2022, we have supported the Ministry of Health’s Center for Data and Information Technology (Pusdatin) and Digital Transformation Office (DTO) Kemenkes in assisting selected provinces with districts to connect their electronic medical records (EMR) to the platform and continue to assist new selected areas based on best practices from previous implementation. In July 2024, CHISU, Pusdatin, and DTO organized a two-day training in West Kalimantan Province. Heads of community health centers, hospital directors, and stakeholders from Provincial and District Health Offices and health facilities attended the workshop, which aimed to provide an understanding of SATUSEHAT implementation packages and formulate action plans in West Kalimantan, with a focus on Kota (City) Pontianak and Sintang Kabupaten (District). The workshop also featured one-on-one mentoring with IT managers and EMR vendors on improving EMR interoperability to SATUSEHAT and strengthening monitoring and evaluation (M&E) capacity. Future trainings will focus on connecting EMR to SATUSEHAT and monitoring and evaluating progress in sending EMR data to SATUSEHAT, and identifying barriers to routine data submission. As a result of these trainings, CHISU hopes to see 48 facilities sending more than 50 percent of registration and diagnosis data from EMR to SATUSEHAT by mid-August 2024. According to Setiaji, Health Minister’s Expert Staff on Health Technology, this will pave the way for decision makers to have better data they can access anytime—ultimately leading to improved quality of care throughout Indonesia.
