Happy Homeownership Month! The Homeownership Symposium held on June 8th was a great success with over 130 attendees and 17 vendors. The event included presentations from vendors, breakout sessions with Lowe’s on DIY projects, the Better Business Bureau on reputable contractors, an attorney on estate planning, and Citibank on saving for home repairs. Additionally, we had a panel discussion featuring three CTO homeowners and CEO Scott, focusing on purchasing a home through the CTO program. The event ended with raffles for gift cards and appliances. The Home team also conducts in-person orientations at the FIC once a month, where the HOME team leads CTO and DPA orientation presentations, typically with 15-20 attendees. These sessions are beneficial for people who prefer in-person discussions or are not very tech-savvy. Find out more about HOME and the services they offer here: www.theCHA.org/home #Homeownership

He first learned about Trades and Apprenticeship opportunities through an email from Sheena Brewer, Trades and Apprenticeships Program Specialist at the CHA WORC office. Today, Gregory is working on the Obama Presidential Center project where he assembles the letter molds that will create one of President Obama’s speeches to be displayed on the side of the library. Learn more about Trades and Apprenticeships by contacting the WORC office at www.thecha.org or [email protected]. #WORC

#DevelopmentUpdate This morning, CHA joined partners from Chicago House, the City of Chicago, State of Illinois and others to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the new Englewood Family Homes, which is the first permanent supportive housing development for families living with HIV or AIDS on the South Side. CHA is proud to be providing Project Based Vouchers for more than half of the apartments in Englewood Family Homes. These vouchers represent $1.5 million in guaranteed rental assistance over the next 15 years. That’s $1.5 million that will support secure and safe housing for families who might otherwise be facing homelessness. Importantly, this housing will also offer on-site access to health and counseling services, and safe places for children to play. In short, it is housing that will provide families with the dignity that they deserve.
