CDC is supportive of the World Health Organization (WHO) decision to declare a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). A PHEIC increases public health mobilization to help with surveillance, testing, treatment, prevention, and community education around mpox. It also emphasizes the importance of the international community coordinating support to help prevent and control the spread of the disease to lessen suffering from mpox. CDC has been supporting DRC’s current clade I mpox outbreak since 2023 and will continue working closely with WHO, other U.S. Government agencies, and international partners to respond to any new developments in the course of these outbreaks. https://lnkd.in/ewfXVHxq]

“Through those systems that were built, we’re able now to have country offices that continue to support governments and ministries and make sure that we are protecting people worldwide.” – Chinyere Ekechi, Deputy Country Director, CDC Sierra Leone. Ekechi and 3 others share their perspectives from the historic West Africa #EbolaResponse. From 2014-2016, over 1,500 #CDC staff contributed unique expertise in epidemiology, laboratory, infection prevention and control, community engagement, and more. Ten years later, the lessons learned from this response continue to transform the world and save lives. Vaccines for Children (VFC), a highly successful program that offers no-cost vaccines to eligible children, is saving lives, but there are still gaps in vaccination, for example: · In 2020, 71% of VFC-eligible children got rotavirus vaccinations, compared with 83% of those who are not eligible. · 75% of children not eligible for VFC got their combined 7- vaccine series while only 61% of VFC-eligible children got it. VFC healthcare providers offer vaccines when and where families access care. Read the new CDC Vital Signs report for more on VFC and how the program protects children. https://bit.ly/4fEXSJ5
