Cathay Bank's first-ever paddle team in Southern California, the Cathay Dragons, made its debut at the 2024 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival, hosted by the Southern California Dragon Boat Club. The event brought together paddlers from across the state. Applause to the Cathay Dragons, who placed 5th in the finals! Cathay Bank has long supported several dragon boat festivals in Southern California and along the East Coast. This time, Cathay's participation in the corporate division was a highlight, reflecting the core values of dedication, teamwork, and community. Cathay Bank Foundation is proud to award a $20,000 grant to LAist , a Southern California Public Radio platform, to support the podcast series “Inheriting” – with a focus on Asian American Pacific Islander history and current events. This initiative is in collaboration with The Asian American Education Project (AAEdu), also funded by the Foundation, with much of the research and content aligning with AAEdu’s curriculum. Since 2021, the Foundation has established an Anti-Asian Hate Violence Initiative (AAHV) to support efforts by nonprofit entities to counter the increasing anti-Asian hate incidents and activities. Cathay Bank Foundation is proud to award a $10,000 grant to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, in support of the 1871 Memorial Project. The 1871 Memorial Project was created to bring awareness to the largely unknown Chinese massacre in the City of Los Angeles, the largest mass killing in California history, and to help repair societies emerging from violent conflicts to build on a better future.
