Today, we are pleased to unveil our 2024-2029 strategic plan setting the course for the future of Blue Forest! ✨ When Blue Forest was founded almost ten years ago, we aimed to utilize conservation finance to address the urgent challenges of catastrophic wildfire and climate change. As we approach a decade of impact, we are committed to building upon our successes and paving the way for future advancements. Informed by insights from our partners, stakeholders, and team members, we have outlined the Strategic Pillars that will guide our work over the next five years. While our priority continues to be wildfire risk reduction in the Western U.S., we are starting to grow our work on broader forest and watershed health in the Western U.S., and other ecosystems and geographies. We remain steadfast in continuing to utilize science + finance + collaboration to restore critical landscapes. Why? Because landscape restoration needs to happen now.  Dive into our strategic plan to discover the path we are forging ahead. Thank you for being a part of our journey! 💚🌲 https://lnkd.in/gXZ9xNKY

Last week, members of our team joined Lomakatsi Restoration Project and embarked on a deeply inspiring visit on the Fremont-Winema National Forest in Oregon. The group learned about the important work happening on the Forest to mitigate wildfire risk in the area, saw active project sites where Lomakatsi’s Inter-Tribal crew is hand-cutting and piling, and watched the Burnbot in action in the Sand Creek Project area. A highlight of the visit was witnessing the deep connection and commitment from members of Lomakatsi’s Tribal Youth Ecological Forestry Training Program to support ecosystem and ecocultural restoration of the Chiloquin Trust Lands, a property held and stewarded by the family of Klamath Tribal member Edison Chiloquin. Edison's granddaughter, Monica, hosted the group and shared how Lomakatsi crews supported the restoration of their property. We want to offer our sincere gratitude to the USDA Forest Service Fremont-Winema National Forest, Lomakatsi Restoration Project, QBE North America, BurnBot, Inc., and the Chiloquin Trust Lands for an impactful experience. We look forward to strengthening these partnerships through continued collaboration.

In May 2024, Project Manager Kelsee Taylor had the opportunity to join the Oregon Chapter of the Society of American Foresters’ annual conference in Ashland, Oregon. The highlight was spending a day in the field learning about one of the most pressing issues for southern Oregon forests: the Douglas fir decline spiral or “Firmageddon.” The group learned from researchers, foresters, tree pathologists, and entomologists what might be causing this mass tree mortality event and what actions local experts are taking to conserve and restore healthy tree stands. In our June Science Corner, she shares more about the experience and the planned proactive land management solutions that are starting to be implemented. In our journey to protect and restore our forests, we’ve discovered invaluable partners in our mission toward resilience. We're honored to collaborate with Lomakatsi Restoration Project through the Rogue Valley I FRB. In 2023, members of our team had the chance to watch Lomakatsi Restoration Project’s Tribal Youth Ecological Forestry Training Program crews in action as they carried out forest restoration activities on a family-owned property in Southern Oregon that faces high wildfire risk. These dedicated individuals, aged 18-26 and hailing from Tribal and Latinx communities, are not just restoring the land, they are helping to mitigate the risk of catastrophic wildfire, safeguarding these beautiful landscapes and the communities that surround them. Through this transformative program, these inspiring young leaders gain more than job skills and certifications - they cultivate a deep-rooted connection to the land and explore promising career paths in forestry, wildland fire management, and habitat restoration. Our conversations with these remarkable individuals were deeply insightful and inspiring. Here's a bit of what they shared… To learn more, visit: https://lomakatsi.org/

As an investor in the Yuba I Forest Resilience Bond, the FRB Catalyst Facility, and a long-time supporter and partner of Blue Forest, The Rockefeller Foundation's Zero Gap Fund (ZGF) has made significant investments to support our mission of protecting our forests and watersheds. ZGF’s capital has been pivotal in catalyzing private investment to support forest restoration and mitigate the risk of catastrophic wildfires. ZGF was created to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges by investing in innovative financial structures that have the potential to be replicated and scaled to leverage additional capital. We are proud to be a part of ZGF’s portfolio. Together, the #ZGF investments have catalyzed an impressive $8.2 million for climate action!
