Brent crude jumped 5% this week amid escalating geopolitical tensions, yet the oil industry’s response has been subdued... Why is that? In a recent interview with Reuters, our CEO Rhett Bennett shared his perspective: -------- "In this new world of US shale being the dominant global oil producer, it seems that the 'fear premium' no longer exists to the same extent," "This diversity of supply from domestic sources, combined with healthy spare capacity within OPEC, is translating into the market feeling insulated from a dramatic supply shock – regardless of perpetual Middle East flare-ups." ------- Historically, tensions in key oil-producing regions would trigger more significant, lasting price spikes. Yet current diversified supply and concerns over soft demand are helping stabilize the market. Read more below: #EnergyMarkets #BrentCrude #Geopolitics #OPEC

What does this mean for the oil and gas industry? If the strike lingers, it could shake up the oil and gas sector, especially affecting the supply chain, leading to shortages and price hikes. According to Adam Ferrari, CEO of Phoenix Capital Group, while there may not be an immediate impact, the strike could trigger broader economic challenges, including market uncertainty and possible regulatory changes. The PRICE Futures Group, Inc.'s Phil Flynn noted that although the strike affects container ships, oil tankers and LNG remain unaffected and fuels like home heating oil and diesel won't see an impact. However, if the strike lasts beyond a week, it could lead to shortages of goods, shutdowns, and further recessionary pressures, weakening oil and gas demand. Economic estimates suggest the strike could cost the U.S. economy between $2 billion and $4 billion a day. However, the overall economic toll may remain a small fraction of the $29 trillion U.S. economy. Is there an immediate concern for the oil and gas industry? No, but the situation could change if the strike persists. We think this can, and will, come to an amicable solution. Hopefully soon.

Boy that sure puts it in perspective. So how much of our increased standard of living in the U.S. over the past several decades is just a mirage, and wasn't exactly wealth creation, but debt subsidized? That one day a future generation is going to have to deal with? The interest expense alone is going to be so unbearable coming up.

New stickers for my boats and my bikes. Thanks Black Mountain Oil & Gas for promoting the beautiful truth about O&G. I'm probably going to need more stickers to stick on the hospitals, arenas, schools, etc. around San Antonio South Texas Geological Society . I have seen many posts about pivoting in the oil and gas industry. However, I believe what we are witnessing isn’t a pivot but a return to our core training and expertise. For those of us in the upstream sector, we are expanding the scope of our work environment and applying decades of technical knowledge to the broader and evolving energy industry. For example, we are moving more towards energy solutions that encompass a more comprehensive array of resources and away from focusing solely on traditional oil and gas. I have seen several colleagues exploring for helium reserves, lithium from produced water, and even hydrogen, reflecting how we are utilizing our skills in new and impactful ways. This evolution is not a departure but a natural extension of the skills, analysis, and innovative thinking we’ve always relied on to drive efficiency and sustainability in exploration and production. It’s about leveraging what we already know to navigate the future energy landscape with a sense of responsibility and purpose. The world needs energy, and we’re ready to meet that need in sustainable and forward-thinking ways. Thoughts? #EnergyTransition #UpstreamEvolution #OilAndGasToEnergy
