Last month, the 2024 cohort of the Legislative Fellows program in the Institute for Public Administration (IPA) at the Biden School concluded the legislative session with a special visit to Woodburn, the Governor of Delaware's residence, for the first time in the program’s 40-year history. The fellows, joined by IPA director Jerome Lewis, program manager Lisa Moreland Allred, various program alumni currently working in the Delaware legislature and on the Governor's staff had the opportunity to connect with Governor John Carney to chat about his political career and their experiences. The fellows' end-of-session wrap-up also included a meeting with Senator David Sokola, President Pro Tempore of the Delaware State Senate and UD alumnus, in his office in Legislative Hall.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Ithaca Student Leaders have been busy with their summer internships. Over the next few weeks, we'll share their takeaways and a peek into their experiences. First up is Simon Brand, a recent graduate of the University of Delaware Biden School with a bachelor's in public policy and minors in political science and history. He's been interning with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Delaware in their legal department, supporting education equity efforts. "I have deepened my understanding of the many functions of a state-level civil rights organization and the mechanisms that the legal department uses to further its civil rights agenda. Attending meetings like the organization’s education planning meetings has allowed me to observe the strategies behind integrated advocacy efforts." It is a pleasure and a privilege to watch the students involved in our experiential learning opportunities, such as the Biden Institute's Summer Internship Program, excel and create a lasting impact. Congratulations, Lauren!
I am happy and proud to announce that after two months in San Francisco, I have finished my internship as an Equity Intern through the University of Delaware's Biden Institute and the University of San Francisco's Leo T. McCarthy Center for the Common Good. During my time as an equity intern, I had the privilege of working with kindergarten and first grade students in under resourced communities, where I helped prevent summer learning loss. To close out my internship, I was able to present my passion and dedication to help prevent language barriers within education. I want to thank everyone who supported me throughout this internship.
