Leading the bike share revolution, one ride at a time.

About us

Bicycle Transit Systems has paved the way for bike share in the United States, as our leaders have launched bike share systems in almost every major American city. We currently have over 100 employees, operating three major systems: Los Angeles’ Metro Bike Share, Philadelphia’s Indego and Las Vegas’ RTC Bike Share. 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, our dedicated staff maintain bicycles to be safe and smooth, service customers and get more people riding bikes. Our hallmarks are innovation, equity and operational excellence. Bike Transit launched the first member-incentivized rebalancing program, the first cash payment system, the first and deepest transit integration. Our Philadelphia system has developed industry leading equity efforts. And all of our systems have the same mark of safe, clean bikes and stations, maintained with the utmost care and professionalism. We imagine a world where there are more bikes on streets than cars and a bike share program in every city. It takes hard working, passionate, sometimes quirky and mission driven people to make this happen, and we are lucky to have people like this managing, promoting and operating our programs.

A Larger, Stronger Unified Bicycle Transit Systems We did it. We closed on our acquisition of BCycle from Trek Bicycle, making Bicycle Transit Systems the only vertically integrated docked bike share company in North America. Now, we can better support the expansion of mobility options in cities nationwide with seamless solutions for building, installing, and managing docked, electrified bike share. By acquiring BCycle’s contracts, software, hardware, and future product development, our larger, stronger unified company now operates: 👉 Bike share systems in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Las Vegas, and 10 other systems in communities across the U.S. 👉 Bikes, docking stations, and software sales and support for 15 additional communities, including Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, Cincinnati, and Milwaukee. 👉 The nation’s only full-service bike share customer service center to an additional 24 U.S. cities. Bringing all of the interconnected aspects of bike share together under one company expands our ability to deliver innovative solutions that meet cities' needs, advance electrification efforts, and reduce operating costs. It also brings us closer to meeting our core mission— to deliver the best customer experience possible for our riders and advance the future of bike share in the markets we serve. Thanks for coming along for the ride with us. -  Kristin Gavin-Wisniewski (she/her), CEO

🌟 Last week, Bicycle Transit Systems hosted a special Coffee & Conversation in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month! 🌟 We were thrilled to welcome Karina Puente who led our employees through an inspiring session on The Art of Papel Picado. Karina shared the cultural significance of this traditional Mexican folk art, guiding us through its rich history and how her art frames important spaces in our lives. As the founder of the DIVE Intuit Program, Karina leads a women-led studio focused on spreading joy and positivity through art. Her work—spanning contemporary Papel Picado installations—draws from her deep cultural roots and her great-grandmother’s legacy as a seamstress for Indigenous communities. Thank you, Karina Puente, for sharing your artistry and perspective with us, and for enriching our celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. 🎨✨ Learn more about Karina's work here: https://lnkd.in/dxQvsV2V #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth #DEIJdriven #CommunityPartners

Big News from Bicycle Transit Systems We’ve signed an agreement to acquire BCycle from Trek Bicycle. The acquisition will make Bicycle Transit Systems the only vertically integrated docked bike share company in North America. Now, we can better support the expansion of mobility options by providing cities nationwide with seamless solutions for building, installing, and managing docked, electrified bike share. We’re proud to enter this new phase of growth with BCycle, America’s first bike share company. Since 2008, this legendary brand has delivered quality equipment and hardware for dozens of bike share systems, including our Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas markets.  When the acquisition closes in October, Bicycle Transit Systems will acquire BCycle’s contracts, software, hardware, and future product development, including: • Ten BCycle-owned and operated bike share systems in communities across the U.S., including Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Madison, and Boulder.  • Bikes, docking stations, and software sales and support for 15 additional communities, including Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, Cincinnati, and Milwaukee. Our unified company will be the largest docked bike share provider in the U.S. by number of communities served. Synergies from the acquisition will allow us to grow even more and invest in product and technology innovation to more affordably and efficiently meet cities' unique local needs. With greater flexibility and oversight of product development and innovation, we can design real-time solutions to pressing equity, safety, and climate challenges. The bottom line is that Bicycle Transit Systems can now better meet its core mission—to deliver the best customer experience possible for our riders and advance the future of bike share in the markets we serve.  We’ll continue to be led by the Bicycle Transit Systems executive team, including me as CEO, Founder and Chair Alison Cohen, COO Ian Smith, and CFO Gloria Parker Shabazz. BCycle’s Brian Conger and Caitlin O'Connell will join the company’s roster of experienced bike share leaders as our new Chief Business Officer and Product Director to ensure a smooth transition for our partner agencies and riders. 🚴♀️ Exciting developments for cycling infrastructure in Philadelphia! 🚴♀️ During a recent press conference, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker emphasized her commitment to investing in safer cycling infrastructure, capping it off with a ride on an Indego bike. We’re grateful to Mayor Parker, the City of Philadelphia, and the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia for their efforts to make Philadelphia a safe place for people to ride bikes, particularly in communities of color, lower-income neighborhoods, and for vulnerable populations like our youth and elderly. This is a key move towards our shared vision of zero traffic fatalities in Philadelphia. As the bike share operators of Indego, we're proud to see Indego featured and are excited about the positive impact these infrastructure investments will bring. Check out the full stories from CBS Philadelphia to learn more about this important work. 🚴♂️ Progress for Bike-Friendly LA! 🚴♀️ As the operators of the Los Angeles Metro Bike Share, we love to be a part of Los Angeles' journey toward becoming a more bike-friendly city! This past weekend, we joined the community at CicLAvia- Meet the Hollywoods presented by Los Angeles Metro, where the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) unveiled 3.6 miles of new protected bike lanes in East Hollywood as part of the Access to Hollywood project. This marks a significant advance in safer, more accessible transportation options and sustainable infrastructure. This Sunday’s event became a celebration of this milestone with the community, and the Bicycle Transit Systems LA team supported by assisting with Metro Bike Share checkouts and providing info how to use Metro Bike Share services. Shout out to Los Angeles Metro Bike Share, LADOT, and CicLAvia for their continued efforts in transforming LA's transportation landscape and bringing the community together. #BikeLA #CicLAvia #BikeFriendlyLA #SustainableTransport #EquityInTransit
