  • A study led by researchers at BIDMC demonstrated that mpox antibody levels declined rapidly and nearly returned to baseline 6-12 months after receiving the mpox vaccination. The findings, published in JAMA, suggest that protective immunity may have waned in previously vaccinated individuals and that boosting may be required to maintain robust protection. “The WHO declared the current mpox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo a public health emergency,” said corresponding author Dan H. Barouch, MD, PhD, director of the Center for Vaccine and Virology Research at BIDMC. “It is therefore important to assess the infection risk for individuals who were vaccinated against the disease during the 2022 outbreak.” Read more about the study⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e_BH7Bs8

  • Last week the BIDMC Fellowship in Disaster Medicine's held their 13th annual Pre-Deployment Course! Our incoming fellows spent 4 days in the Wachusett Mountain State Reservation learning the complexities and safety protocols of field deployment. Living in tents and running simulated missions, they tackled scenarios like mass casualties, pediatric care, and even hostile checkpoints—all designed to replicate real-world disaster settings. This year's exercise involved responding to a flood disaster in a developing country, with over 40 faculty and alumni joining to guide them. And, for the second year in a row, Sasquatch made an appearance! Proud to train the next generation of leaders in disaster medicine as we enter our 18th year! Unique training like this takes the effort of many, so thank you to all who were involved! Learn more about the fellowship⬇️ https://lnkd.in/exZ5jVA4
