The ongoing trade war between the United States and China could open up on a new front: golf carts. Two Georgia companies have asked the U.S. government to slap hefty tariffs on golf carts being imported from China, arguing that they are receiving unfair subsidies that undercut U.S. competition and workers. The golf cart business is a lucrative one for Georgia, particularly for the Augusta area, where Club Car and Textron Specialized Vehicles are based. More than 3,000 Georgians work for the companies making golf carts. More: https://lnkd.in/efmuvzBi

When Laura Miles first stepped foot in Bain & Company’s Atlanta office decades ago, little did she know that she would eventually become the company’s first C-suite executive based in the city. Miles started at the global consulting firm’s Atlanta office in 1998 after an internship the previous year, and slowly climbed her way up the ranks. In July, she was named the company’s chief client officer and global head of industries. She sat down with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution to discuss her career, being the only woman in a roomful of men and how Bain is approaching artificial intelligence. It appears a deal is in place to avoid yet another labor stoppage on the sets of film and television projects. The Teamsters and unions representing electricians, location managers, caterers and other craftspeople have reached a tentative deal on a new contract with major studios, bringing an end to an 18-month period of labor negotiations in Hollywood that has slowed production across the country. Hollywood Basic Crafts, which bargains on behalf of 8,000 workers and includes Teamsters Local 399, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 399 (IBT), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 40 and other crafts unions, announced the deal late Saturday evening, days before its existing contract expires at the end of July. Archer Aviation has given a preview of the air taxis it plans to build in Georgia as it races to open its electric aircraft manufacturing plant in Covington by late October. The “show plane” Archer displayed at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport in Chamblee is a mock-up that doesn’t fly, but it gives officials a glimpse of a vision for the future of aviation that the state has offered millions of dollars in incentives to be built in Georgia. Those test aircraft will be used as part of Archer’s effort to get certification from the Federal Aviation Administration for its piloted four-passenger electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft called Midnight. TNT Sports’ parent company Warner Bros. Discovery on Friday sued the NBA after the basketball league rejected its efforts to keep airing games. “Given the NBA’s unjustified rejection of our matching of a third-party offer, we have taken legal action to enforce our rights,” TNT Sports U.S. said in a statement released to the media. As businesses around the world rushed to restart their operations after a global technology outage before dawn on July 19, aviation experts were shocked to see one carrier struggling more than any other: Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines. A faulty security update that upended many industries practically knocked Delta out of the skies, leaving travelers sleeping in airports for days all over the world. Endless lines of stranded Delta passengers snaked through terminals from Atlanta to Seoul. Baggage piled up everywhere. Hundreds of thousands of passengers collectively descended into a sort of “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”-like hell. The blow to Delta’s reputation — and balance sheet — could be immense. It’s no secret that sea levels are rising along the Georgia coast — and are expected to climb even higher in the coming decades. But another, lesser-known factor is allowing water to creep closer to cities like Savannah and Brunswick: In many places, the land beneath them is sinking. The combination of rising water and sinking land is forcing communities up and down Georgia’s 100-mile coastline to adapt in ways big and small.
