“I’m an obsessive researcher, so I end up having to sort through lots of ideas and images before choosing a direction,” admits the #ADPRODirectory member and founder of LA- and San Francisco–based full-service design firm  Studio Roene. Julia Sobrepeña King has taken her experience at multiple top interior firms, and time spent living on three continents, and rolled all of it into her own globally influenced design style. It’s no wonder she was named an AD New American Voice in 2022—only a year after starting her own studio—and continues to excite us today. What’s the best rule of thumb when crafting a vision? For #AD100 Designer Christine Gachot of Gachot Studios, it’s that a strong vision should always be evolving. “As business owners we must be a step ahead of where we are now—always thinking about what’s next, what we can do better, who else is needed on the team, and what more we can offer clients,” she says. “Ask yourself these questions often and map out your answers frequently. It’s a process.” This week, we’re revisiting some more of the best tips from industry pros on running a design business. Covering everything from branding to client strategy to managing staff, these tips cover all the bases. “I would say my style is very clean,” #ADPRODirectory designer Jaimie Baird says. “I start with a blank canvas and I really try to understand how my clients live”. Her impeccable eye for angle, composition, and lighting translates effortlessly from photography to interior design. Across the serene Massachusetts home she recently designed, Baird’s interior design was inspired as much by the exterior views as by the house’s history. When Jennifer Garner sat down with longtime friends and architecture and design collaborators Steve and Brooke Giannetti to discuss her LA dream house, there were no Pinterest boards or magazine clippings. Just a vision. Soon after that initial consult, “Steve sent me a watercolor of it,” says the actor and recent AD cover star in her Open Door video. “And that’s exactly the house we built.” Subscribe to The Source to read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZY7WPjZ

Ahead of David Wiseman’s Salon 94 Design show, AD’s West Coast editor warms up to the communal vibe of the artist’s fireside hangout. Wiseman has been cultivating his dream factory for the better of a decade, building production spaces, showroom facilities, gardens, and areas for alfresco entertaining. But the keystone of the whole operation arrived only recently in the form of a freestanding, sculptural, open-mouth fireplace set in the central courtyard. At Laura Gonzalez’s Right Bank atelier it’s easy to understand her modus operandi: luxurious layers of color and pattern—always with a touch of whimsy. Last year was a busy one for the designer, in business since 2004: She revamped Cartier’s NYC flagship, a mansion on Fifth Avenue, crafting a warm but super-luxe home for the storied jeweler. While she’s best known for her residential-feeling commercial and hospitality spaces, Gonzalez has serious range. The connective tissue between it all? “I always revisit the classics,” she says. Of her new home, Jennifer Garner notes, “I wanted it to feel old and cool and historic, but I also wanted to make it work for a big family with a lot of things going on.” She then enlisted the now Tennessee-based husband-and-wife architect and interior designer duo Steve and Brooke Giannetti to craft a space for her family to put down roots.
