Welcome to Mother Nature's farmacy, making every day healing second nature™.

About us

Apothékary started with our founder, Shizu Okusa, and her family’s traditional Japanese approach to healing — using nature as medicine instead of over-the-counter fixes. In many Eastern cultures, traditional medicine in the form of plants and herb has been used for centuries to address the root cause of common ailments. That’s exactly what we strive to do here at Apothékary - we’re here to not just treat the symptom, but get to the root cause of your wellness woes. The demands of our modern life disconnect us from our inherent state of being. At times, we can forget what it feels like to live in harmony with the natural world. Ancient healing traditions take cues from nature to holistically support our mind, body, and spirit. With daily practice, we’re reminded of what harmony feels like and we wonder how we ever lived without it. Apothékary is on a mission to give ancient, plant-based healing traditions new life—so that you can live a more balanced one. All of our Signature Formulas are thoughtfully formulated by our in-house Clinical Herbalists, pulling from traditional medicine modalities like Japanese Kampo, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, and American herbalism. The result is simple yet effective herbal remedies with tradition and modern science in mind. Each formula contains herbs from local and global farmers with ingredients that are non-GMO, gluten-free, and contain no added sugar, fillers, or additives. In essence, they’re nature’s best remedies—plain and simple. And the best part is, they actually work to address the root cause instead of masking the symptoms. Come with us and reembark on your journey back to balance with Apothékary.

Headless eComm often has scary connotations to it, whether it be more development time or the fear it will be less plug & play. For us at Apothékary™ it provides the right balance of customizability and flex to decide the what, where and how we build. Sharing a recent case study on how we continue to find creative ways to use subscriptions to get customers their herbs at a cadence they want + grow the business. When you’ve got the right partners like Recharge / Shopify and the BEST team (shoutout 🗣️ Daniel / ∴ André Figueira / Mariana) you can make anything happen 🙌 Happy holidays everyone! ❤️✨ Shizu / Charlene / Theresa / Casie / Ellen / Mary / Jennifer / Monica / Leah

Wow. After 10+ months of behind the scenes planning, we hosted Apothékary™'s very first 'Journey East' to Japan! From what was a "no way" dream to a "ok, we doing this!" green light forward, we invited 7 of our close media friends Hallie Gould, Faith Xue, Lauren Valenti, Cary Georges, Ariana Yaptangco, Ariana Marsh, Zoe Weiner on a weeklong nervous system reset in beautiful Kyoto for a change of pace, space and place. In partnership with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts Kyoto, we experienced chadō, the way of tea, served with beautiful wagashi or Japanese handcrafted sweets adorned with landscapes of nature. As Ryo Iwamoto so beautifully explained, there’s beauty all around us but it’s up to us to shift our attention to intention. In the morning, we chose a more intentional pace of stillness through zazen meditation with zen monk, Toryo Ito. He taught us that the intention is not to run away from our thoughts, the intention is to stay with them.  Over time, we realize that like the passing clouds, our thoughts pass us by.  Presence is the ultimate present. Later in the week, we shifted space to a private onsen, Japanese hot springs to welcome the element of water to cleanse and detoxify the body.  We also spent time forest bathing also known as Shinrin-Yoku, where we consumed the fresh oxygen of the tall cedar and bamboo trees all around. We closed out the week celebrating with our friends DAMDAM Tokyo at the beautiful Shimonzen with The Honest Youth mocktails and a Japanese matcha-infused brunch. Thank you to SolComms and their incredible team Bruno Solari Kylee Kaetzel Peyton Weaver for the incredbile planning and always being a sound of reason. Remember, there's only one cat per person! Incredibly grateful for our entire team Theresa Bischof Leah Jereb Allison Caves Charlene Tsang Mikey T. Krieger Ellen Kang Jennifer Lewis for keeping me grounded while abroad. A trip like this was not inexpensive and as a finance person by wiring, I too would look at the direct numbers and think "this is not a good idea". But in building three companies, I now take a distinct view between operating expenses and capital investments in building an enduring company for the long-term. It can be so easy to default to just direct response paid ads with but real businesses are not built overnight, they are built over time and storytelling your authentic voice. This was a journey of a lifetime. Interested in joining one of our journeys next year? Comment below, I'd love to hear more about your experience and what you'd be looking for. We can't wait to share more about our upcoming journeys opening up to the public in 2025, where Apothékary™ was born at the intersection of East meets West 🇯🇵🇺🇸 #japan #kyoto #meditation #chado #wellness

As a perpetual student of leadership styles, this article in Inc. Magazine by Kim Jao caught my eye. In it, Jao chronicles the most important lessons that seven leading entrepreneurs learned during their time in business schools. Each of the lessons is worth the price of admission itself, but I was particularly taken with was, “Work for your eulogy values” as articulated by Apothékary™ Founder and CEO Shizu Okusa. Her point, which made me stop and think about how I lead, is that you should always work in such a way that people will be able to identify at your funeral - the values that drove your life. In other words, make sure you’re leaving the legacy you want to leave with each and every business decision you make. I love that idea, and it’s one I’m going to share with my team and try to emulate each day. What lessons have you learned in leadership that you would share with the next generation of leaders? The comments are open. https://lnkd.in/eK7VTg32 #Deliveringacleanenergyfuture #commercialsolar #communitysolar

📚 #1 NYT Bestselling Author of GOOD ENERGY 💪 Levels Co-Founder + 🥼 Former surgeon turned metabolic health evangelist + 🌍 Striving to create a happier and healthier world and planet

My latest newsletter issue is out! 🗞️ If you aren’t signed up, join us in this weekly dive into my perspective on living out healthiest and empowered lives. In this week’s newsletter, I’m sharing a Good Swap: alcohol for non-alcoholic beverages! 🍹 Back in January, after a phenomenal (albeit somewhat indulgent 🍷🍷 ) trip through the South African wine country, my partner and I decided to do “Dry January,” where we would stop all alcoholic beverages for the month. Inspired by powerful podcasts about the perils of alcohol by Rich Roll, Andrew Huberman, and Liz Moody, I embarked on Dry January with curiosity and enthusiasm. “Dry January” ended up turning into “Dry January through May 14th,” because after I learned that Taylor Swift stopped drinking for her Eras Tour, I decided I did not want to drink during my Good Energy book tour launch (which was my version of Eras Tour, after all! 😆). My partner was incredibly kind and willing to join me on this journey, which made it a LOT more fun. Then, once May 14th hit, we both had no strong interest in drinking, so we didn’t. Now, it’s August, and in many ways alcohol is just no longer an interest. I’ve sort of… forgotten about it 🤯 . Everyone’s relationship with alcohol is very personal, but if you’re thinking about a shift in your alcohol journey, this week’s newsletter describes how my life has changed since I stopped alcohol (and how it hasn’t!). In this newsletter, I’m sharing: 🙅♀️🍸 8 ways not drinking alcohol has transformed my life in 2024 🤔 5 ways it HASN’T 🍹 My five-part formula for the perfect homemade mocktail - which includes a list of some of my favorite brands that I like to add in my mocktails! 👇 Gruppo Sanpellegrino Mountain Valley Spring Water Rishi Tea & Botanicals Lion Heart Kombucha Biotic Ferments Santa Cruz Organic Lakewood Organic Juices Farmers Juice Apothékary™ OPTIMIST Drinks | B corp™ Figure Ate Sign up to the newsletter and get this issue in your inbox: https://lnkd.in/e5E_e5pz

Entrepreneurship is like a room of many mirrors, reflecting both the good and the areas of improvement in a founder's evolution to become not just a better leader... but a better human. I'll / we'll never be perfect but we can at least strive for continuous improvement -- in Japanese, we call this 'Kaizen'. Thank you Shopify for having me on the Shopify Masters Podcast and holding space for my thoughts on starting and scaling a business (Apothékary™) from $0 to new heights. Special thanks to Gogo Zoger and Shuang Esther Shan for bringing this to life! 🙏 https://lnkd.in/gisf22x8 #shopify #startups SolComms

The Blue Burn™ x Japanese Sento Experience To celebrate the launch of our metabolic health tincture, Blue Burn™, we invited our community (and brought together our marketing team!) to spend a relaxing and rejuvenating morning with us at Othership's newest location in New York City. Inspired by a traditional Japanese bathhouse experience (sento), we celebrated the launch of Blue Burn™, and its beautiful blue hues in an immersive sauna session with towel-waving, aromatherapy, active movement, and guided breathwork -- followed by a cold plunge (very cold!!). The potent herbal ingredients in Blue Burn™ coupled with the metabolism-boosting benefits of the sauna and cold plunge had us all feeling the burn 🔥 Thank you to our friends at Chalait for providing the delicious Blue Burn™ matchas, Scott's Protein Balls for the protein-packed snacks, and the entire SolComms team for helping us bring our vision to life once again. We couldn't do it without you! You can shop Blue Burn™ here: https://lnkd.in/ebag4Uh6
