Data shows that tragedies from infants’ unsafe sleeping have been on the rise in South Carolina. Join us in working to reverse that trend and save precious lives. Spread the word that parents should share lullabies, snuggles, stories and their room – but not their bed. Babies’ cribs or bassinets should be in parents’ bedrooms, but babies should not sleep in their parents’ beds, because that’s not safe. And parents should clear babies’ cribs of blankets, pillows or toys until the baby is 2 years old. We’re so proud that our pulmonary hypertension navigator, Kelly, has been honored with the Kitchen Table Society Bright Star Award from the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. On top of the exceptional care she provides on a daily basis, she organized an O2breathe Walk in the spring that helped raise more than $10,000 to fight PH, a condition affecting blood vessels in the lungs that strikes about one in 10 people over age 65. #BetterStartsHere

Pulmonary, neurologic and cardiac care is beautiful, indeed. We have lovely reminders thanks to students in teacher Joshua Powell’s class at Southwood Academy of the Arts. His eighth-graders from last school year recently gave us new artwork, a colorful heart that follows a brain and lungs – all made from medicine vials and materials collected by nurses. #BetterStartsHere

Katy, who works in our Home Health department, was helping a patient with medication reconciliation recently when she noticed one particular medication had been discontinued on the patient’s after-visit summary. Katy believed that was inaccurate, so she called the physician’s office for clarification. Upon doing so, Katy confirmed that the patient did need to continue the medication, so she saw through corrections everywhere necessary. She worked with patient’s daughter to confirm clear understanding of directions. Her thoroughness helped keep the patient on the right track. Separately, in another case, Katy paid the power bill of a patient so the patient could be comfortable at home. For her efforts, alongside Pamela of Primary Care - Internal Medicine, she’s been named our Star of the Month. Pamela was helping care for a patient recently when she learned the patient did not have a ride to an important appointment. He’d walked about six miles to get there. Pamela heard others talking about how to find a ride for the patient when she took it upon herself to schedule and pay for an Uber ride. Disaster situations like Hurricane Helene bring out the best in people, organizations, and communities. Yesterday, #AnMed served 4500 BBQ meals to our teammates and families, first responders, and community members. Leaders from our organization partnered with Community Volunteers and Creekside BBQ to make this happen. We know so many in our community are suffering. We were honored to provide a warm meal, a smile, and a thank you. I am so inspired by the spirit of our community and our AnMed team. We will get through this challenge. We pray for our community and those in other areas where the impact has been even more devastating.
