On the first day of the American Express Leadership Academy, our Chief Marketing Officer Elizabeth Rutledge hosted a fireside chat with National Basketball Association (NBA) Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, and (USTA) United States Tennis Association Chief Executive of Professional Tennis Stacey Allaster C.C. to discuss what it means to lead with purpose. With the NBA Foundation as a new official partner of the Leadership Academy, Mark Tatum shared his advice for participants on how to drive change within their organizations. “You have to have a very clear purpose. In our case, it’s to inspire and connect people everywhere through basketball. When you understand what your purpose is, it puts things in a different framework that gives you permission to innovate.”

American Express is celebrating the 15th annual Small Business Saturday® on November 30, 2024. To commemorate the milestone year and its longstanding support of small businesses, American Express will host a special performance by singer-songwriter, Noah Kahan, at the historic Riviera Theater and a holiday pop-up market in the vibrant small business community of Charleston, South Carolina. “American Express founded Small Business Saturday in 2010, coming out of the US financial crisis, to help drive consumer spending at small businesses when they needed it most. Since then, the day has sparked a movement and truly made an impact – with consumers reporting spending over $200 billion at small businesses,” said Elizabeth Rutledge, Chief Marketing Officer, American Express. “We are celebrating in a big way this year, while continuing to meet the needs of small businesses around the country.” Read more about the events in Charleston and how you can make a difference in your community by shopping small: https://lnkd.in/emzRrhYH

On Veterans Day, I’m proud of how American Express supports the veterans community. American Express is a partner of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation which serves veterans as they transition back to civilian life. Our work has supported more than 500 veterans over the past year, and we look forward to positively impacting the lives of many others. I recently participated in an event held by our #TeamAmex Veterans Colleague Network (VET) to write thank you notes to U.S. veterans, active-duty military members, and their families. I am honored to work at an organization that supports the well-being of veterans like myself.

Today, American Express reported its third-quarter 2024 financial results, delivering strong EPS of $3.49 and its 10th consecutive quarter of record revenue, growing 8% over the prior year to $16.6 billion. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve Squeri said: “We had another strong quarter that reflects the earnings power of our business model and our continued investments for growth. Our continued momentum demonstrates the sustainability of our product refresh strategy and the growth it is driving in our portfolio. We have already completed 40 product refreshes globally since the beginning of the year, including the recent launch of our new U.S. Consumer Gold Card.
