About us

Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. We are driven by the excitement of building technologies, inventing products, and providing services that change lives. We embrace new ways of doing things, make decisions quickly, and are not afraid to fail. We have the scope and capabilities of a large company, and the spirit and heart of a small one. Together, Amazonians research and develop new technologies from Amazon Web Services to Alexa on behalf of our customers: shoppers, sellers, content creators, and developers around the world. Our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Our actions, goals, projects, programs, and inventions begin and end with the customer top of mind. You'll also hear us say that at Amazon, it's always "Day 1." What do we mean? That our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon's very first day - to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and focus on delighting our customers.

Great to be in NYC today for Climate Week and to celebrate The Climate Pledge's five-year anniversary with many of our 525 signatories.   In 2019, we co-founded the Pledge and committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Achieving this type of goal is significant for any company; but when you think about Amazon, given the diverse set of businesses and sectors we operate in (including many with very industrialized operations), it’s even more complex. But, we’re committed to being net carbon zero by 2040.   Our journey began with small wins that have led to bigger progress—last year, we matched 100% of the electricity we consumed across Amazon’s global operations with renewable energy, we now have 24K electric delivery vehicles on the road globally, we’ve eliminated 95% of the air plastic pillows in North America packaging (getting to 100% by end of year) and already eliminated 100% in Europe, and cut 446K metric tons of packaging in 2023 alone.   We’re making meaningful progress, but know there is still lots of work ahead to build the future we all want for ourselves, our kids, our communities, and our customers. We’re committed to continuing to lead, partner, and innovate on this important issue.

Happy 12th Amaversary to our Director of Hardware Reliability, Guneet Sethi! 🎉 He and his team stress test our devices so that they’re durable and reliable for customers. Guneet, thanks for all you do, and for being a very good sport about this video. 😂 We had a lot of fun participating in this trend with our Gen Z intern, who by the way, was inclined for a full-time job offer once she graduates! #CustomerObsession. People sometimes misinterpret what our Earn Trust Leadership Principle means. Earning trust isn't about constantly agreeing with your coworkers. It's not about oversharing personal details to create a false sense of familiarity. And it definitely isn't about being a pushover who lets the team walk all over you. True trust is earned through reliability, authenticity, and self-awareness. It comes from following through on your commitments, challenging respectfully if you disagree, and being vocally self-critical, even when it’s awkward or embarrassing. As a leader (and by the way, you don’t have to be a people manager to be a leader), earning trust means: 1) Doing things you say you’re going to do, when you’re going to do them. And if something changes, proactively communicating with stakeholders. 2) Listening intently and speaking candidly and respectfully if you disagree. 3) Owning your mistakes and being transparent. Covering things up or throwing people under the bus rapidly destroys trust. If you’re doing Earn Trust right, you won’t always be the most popular person in the room. But trusted leadership is infinitely more valuable than just being well liked. Learn about other nuances with our LPs from our CEO, Andy Jassy: https://amzn.to/3XlSmTj

With a growing water crisis driven by climate change, population growth, and economic development, as global freshwater demand is predicted to exceed supply by 40 percent by 2030, according to the United Nations, we’re committed to doing our part. Amazon Web Services's investments in water-stressed communities help to restore watersheds and bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services. In 2023 alone, AWS's water replenishment portfolio returned 3.5 billion liters to local communities. That’s why AWS is launching six new water replenishment projects in the U.S., South America, and China. ➡️ https://amzn.to/3AQhZ70
