Alta team members Trevor Luu and Collin Hodges, AICP, recently traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska, to support the City of Fairbanks and the North Star Borough in updating their MACS Transit Plan. This plan aims to enhance coordination between public transportation and human service providers in the community. Learn more about their experience in Trevor's post below!
Just returned from an incredible trip to Fairbanks, Alaska, where I had the privilege of working with R&M Consultants, Inc., DOWL, and FAST Planning to help move forward a transit plan for MACS Transit, the northernmost local bus service on the continent. 🚍❄️ Fairbanks Transit may serve one of the most remote regions of North America, but their commitment to enhancing mobility and accessibility is as strong as anywhere else. During the open house for their Transit Plan Update, I was excited see the passion and dedication from both the agency and the community as we discussed our recommendations to improve service. Working on transit solutions in the Arctic Circle is both a challenge and a deeply rewarding experience. From icy sidewalks to extended periods of daylight and darkness, the extreme conditions require innovative solutions. Thank you to the FAST Planning and the Fairbanks community for their warm hospitality and forward-thinking vision. Also - so great to see Collin Hodges, AICP, Beth McKibben, AICP, Van Le, AICP, and others in person! Looking forward to seeing the positive impacts of this plan. #PublicTransportation #CommunityEngagement
