The Drexel University experience has come full circle! 🐉 I am so excited to share this timeline of how Drexel gave Aer Cosmetics a chance to succeed, and our biggest update yet!! 🎉 May 2021: I had an idea, but needed to test if it would work. I applied for Drexel’s Entrepreneurship co-op where I would receive a scholarship and six months to work on it full time. This was the time to iron out the kinks, and see if it was even possible, with little to no risk. September 2021: I applied to pitch in Drexel’s Fast Pitch and Startup Fest competitions. I did not place in the fast pitch, this was my first time publicly pitching, but as they always taught us failure is your best mentor. I received valuable insight on how to pitch from the judges, and how to verbalize what our products value really was. The next day, I applied this new approach, and placed second in the StartupFest! May 2022: We received $25,000 from winning Drexel’s StartupFund. I used this funding to finalize and prototype our product that was really taking shape. We were still ironing out the kinks, but at this point we knew what the value was in this product, and I knew it was possible. September 2023: The product is done! We did our first round of feedback and focus groups, we secured a manufacturing contract, and we used the funding to order our first 5,000 units. I was officially graduating, and it’s time to apply for our biggest competition yet! The Innovation Fund, supported by Drexel University Office of Research & Innovation. May 2024: After months of due diligence and competition rounds, we officially have been awarded $150,000 from the Drexel University Innovation Fund! This is the biggest milestone to date for our company. We can now give the complete time and dedication Aer needs to fully scale, and also take on employees that can help us blossom to our fullest potential. We have transitioned from just an idea, to a reality. Thank you, Drexel University's Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship for supporting this bud of an idea, and giving me the resources to make it into a full-time opportunity. It wouldn’t have been possible without this support.
