How can you balance continuing education with your photography career? You can continue your education by attending photography seminars, participating in conferences, performing research or networking/communicating with other well-established photographers who are willing to help you learn.

It is all about time management. The study needs periodic and timely inputs. Photography assignments have to be adjusted to incorporate the Study timeline and important assignment submission deadlines. I have 8 year old twins to take care of along with my Study and Photography assignments. Each school drop is an away time from the screen. I ensure my study material is printed and not online to make my study time easy and less stressful for my eyes late at night (after the kids have been tucked into their beds).

I’ll add that put yourself on the scale of using money towards “education” or using that money to invest in your work and creating your uniqueness. Dont get me wrong, education is key to evolve but if you already have a strong foundation with your education. Just go out there and work on your brand.

Sometimes it becomes your thing other times it's something you do when needed but now you see what you do differently and that's growth!

An online portfolio is a must. That being said, seeing how your photos look in print is important, too! Keep both portfolios up to date. Your work two years ago will not look the same as does now.

Look at a style outside of your own and see if you can emulate what you’re seeing…even if it’s not something you’ll use, it’s helpful to know how lighting and composition are used. I would also recommend having a subscription where you can learn something new from people you respect. There’s all kinds of resources out there that can help you see things differently. Just one new technique can be a game changer. Lastly, stay current on what’s happening in the industry and assess whether or not new technology is something you need to learn and integrate into your workflow.

I think follow your excitement and interest. In my case and probably in many other creatives, i want to do the best work i can, and in that improve I am only drained when i try to follow something that does not deeply interest me. So when i am following my interest in what area of photography i want to improve its going with much ease. Usually you can then transfer skills to other areas pf photography as well.

It doesn’t matter how much you like it, at some point it will feel like work. When it gets to that point (and you have a break) go out and shoot pictures in your own style, and own time. Doing this will make you fall back in love with the art and producing for work will get easier. This will also naturally help you gain a better work/life balance.

One way to continue education is to work on personal photography projects - give yourself a theme - maybe a colour to notice - so you photograph only that colour that day or another theme of your choice, like reflections or shoot through something or only take only one lens out with you and see what you can create. These are ways that we can learn through play and continue to inspire our creativity and learn new things every day!

For me personally, YouTube is a great platform to learn. I constantly check what other creators are doing especially new techniques in editing and shooting. I usually do this every single day and then try to use the new techniques in my personal projects. Hence, the learning process would be much more impactful.

In learning and improving your photography skills and creative intentions, practice it the best way to progress. Plan a project each month and learn any new skill sets you may need with some practice sessions. Integrate a few people to work with you on different aspects, This pushes everyone involved to think out of the box and inspire one another. Allow mistakes because they will happen and are necessary, but always keep going. Keep your vision of the end results in mind without imitating other photographers. Be original.

Education is continuous and as much makes us all keep learning. In balancing photography career and learning, one have to create schedule for both learning and working and again making sure that the platform used for learning should be in handy, in other words should be easily accessible because by so doing one can easily keep up with the learning and at the same have his or her photography career going

I simply take pictures, of this and of that. I enjoy capturing images I can see, and images that the camera can see. My education is not limited to the obvious but extends beyond the abstract. In other words, sometimes the camera actually can show me what I am to learn. And since my professional experience is in software development, these images and how they are framed can help with screen layout of the software. Plus I will admit that adding said images (trees, nature etc..) can add to the software experience, making it easier to use, and thus making the user more efficient and productive. Weird how it works.

As a creative it is important to reflect on each step and journey as well as projects undertaken and completed. This can be a great tool to use im future development
