Herbert Morrison host Glenmuir in ISSA basketball double-header
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Herbert Morrison Technical are set to host Glenmuir High in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) rural area boys’ Under-19 basketball quarter-final round today, starting 3:30 pm.
The Under-16 encounter between the schools, which is the opening game of the double-header at Herbert Morrison, is set to start at 1:30 pm.
Herbert Morrison will put their unbeaten records on the line as they seek to join teams that have made winning starts since the second round tipped off on Monday.
Manchester High easily beat Old Harbour High in both the Under-16 and Under-19 games in Mandeville on Monday, while on Tuesday, Cornwall College beat Knox College in their Under-16 game in Montego Bay. Holland High beat St James High in their Under-19 game in Montego Bay.
On Monday, Manchester High dominated lopsided contests, taking the Under-16 (71-5) and the Under-19 (77-16).
The hosts got off to a good start in the junior game and led 21-0 after the first quarter, then led 39-3 at half time and were up 58-5 at the end of the third quarter as Christopher Henderson and Jelani Ricketts both scored 22 points.
In the Under-19 game, Nathaniel Reynolds scored a double-double (24 points and 10 steals) and Samuel Smith scored 16 points as Manchester High romped to a big 61-point win.
On Tuesday, Holland High outscored St James High 84-50 with Evair Reid-Hines leading the way with 23 points and 28 rebounds and Khaleel Anderson scoring 24 points.
Holland High led 20-13 after the first quarter and increased their lead to 23 points to lead 41-18 at half time. They led 55-36 going into the fourth quarter.
Jordan Anderson and Julio Smith both had double-double for St James High. Anderson scored 23 points and had 18 rebounds and Smith scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds as well as eight steals.
At Cornwall College, Carlyle Tingling had a double-double 14 points and 10 rebounds as Cornwall College won 52-36.
Cornwall College held a 14-10 lead after the first quarter but increased their advantage to 28-17 at half time. They were up 36-26 at the end of the third quarter.
Nathan Hinds also scored 16 points for Cornwall College as Tajay Leslie led Knox with 15 points.
