MPs from across the globe were welcomed by a primary school in celebration of Commonwealth Day.
Islington South MP Emily Thornberry hosted a delegation from Canada, Australia, St Lucia, Pakistan, Montserrat and the Maldives at her constituency to show them what British MPs do at a local level.
The group visited Laycock Primary School where children shared what they had learnt about the Commonwealth and showcased their art.
Dame Emily said: “I was so proud of lovely Layock. They showed the best of Islington, and I was very pleased to be able to show the school off to this international group of MPs. I knew that the children would be exemplar ambassadors for Islington, and they did not disappoint.”
She added: “The theme for this year’s Commonwealth Day is ‘Together We Thrive’, that is true for the Commonwealth in bringing together a family of nations to solve global problems; but it is also true for Laycock Primary, where I was moved to see the efforts the children make to lift each other up and to support each other.”
