Members of the Kerry Friends of Palestine, the Kerry branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) have organised a walk around Tralee for tomorrow, Friday, September 6. It will start at 6pm from the gates of CBS Primary School at Cloonalour.

The walk will take participants to a number a of primary school gates around the town where they will pause and reflect with poems and songs and words. This family friendly event is being held in memory of the 16,500 children of Gaza who have been killed in the last 11 months.

Everyone is invited to attend.

In a letter that she wrote about the event and which she sent to primary schools around Tralee, Maria McCarthy, the vice-chair of theKerry IPSC, wrote the following:

This week marks our children’s first week back at school after the summer holidays. They will have rejoined their friends, met their new teachers and caught up on “what I did over the summer holidays”. There will have been tears from little ones, and from their parents, as the new junior infants started their very first day at ‘Big School' and proudly stood outside their front doors and smiled for photos in their crisp new uniforms with their too big schoolbags and their brand new lunchboxes."

They will have met their new teachers, started making new friends and sat down in their classrooms, looking forward to the year ahead. Meanwhile, in Gaza, Palestine, over the last 11 months of genocide, more than 16,600 children have now been confirmed dead. This figure amounts to more than all of the 15,500 children who attend primary schools in the whole of Kerry put together. For comparison, this would mean that no children in Kerry would have returned to school this week.

The Kerry branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is organising a walk around the schools of Tralee on Friday the 6th of September to honour these children. We will pause at the gates of each town centre school with a few words, a poem or a song to remember the stolen lives of the children of Gaza and we invite anyone who wishes to participate."

In addition to this, a nationwide walk in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza will leave from Cahersiveen to Dublin will leave Cahersiveen next Saturday, September 14 and will arrive at Leinster House on Tuesday, September 24.
