Flexachem KCYMS suffered a three-point loss to league leaders Killester at the Killorglin Sports Complex on Monday afternoon for their 18th game of the season, a result that sees the Killorglin side drop to ninth place on the table and currently outside the play-off places.
Early three-pointers from Jordan Blount and Beni Fungala got the Launesiders up and running, and four minutes into the game, Killester coach Jonathan Grennell called a time-out in an attempt to steady his troops as Killorglin had raced into an 11-point lead on a scoreline of 14 to 3.
On resumption of play Killester improved, with the first quarter ending on a score of 28 to 22 in favour of the home side.
The second quarter was a high scoring by both teams with Flexachem's Eche Okeke notching up 11 points and Killester's American Isiah Dascher scoring 10. The half time tally stood at 53 to 46 in favour of Killorglin.
A below par third quarter by the home team saw them outscored by 15 points to 28 with Killester's American duo of Kason Harrel and Dascher being the main contributors for their team. Worryingly for Flexachem KCYMS, Okeke pick up his fifth personal foul in the dying seconds of the quarter, which ruled him out for the rest of the game. Killester led on a score of 68 to 74 heading into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter was a low scoring affair with Killorglin outscoring Killester by 15 to 12, but it wasn't enough and the Dublin side ran out winners on a final score of 83 to 86.
Team Flexachem's next game is a home tie next Saturday against Ballincollig, with a tip off time of 7.15pm. A win for the Killorglin side is crucial if they are to remain in contention for a top eight play-off place.
