I was reminded recently by a great friend of an embarrassing phase in my late teens when I belligerently refused to stand and sing Amhrán na bhFiann after pub music sessions, concerts and other public occasions.
For a period of time, which I reckon must have coincided with my international socialist phase, I would refuse to stand and sing, ignoring the proddings and upbraidings of middle-aged, red-faced tipsy men.
