The little girl Molly Goodwyn prepares her breakfast, calls the police and goes to outside her house. Soon LVPD and CSI arrive at the location and find three dead men inside the house. Molly tells Dr. Robins that her mother Grace is missing. Her uncle Steve is one of the victims. Soon the other two victims are identified, J. D. Kesey and Duke Givens, and Nick finds that their fingerprints are associated to another home invasion in the area. However, Steve Goodwyn is not related to the home invasion. Soon Grace's body is found in a dumpster. When they see that the victim Alison Liss, who was raped during the home invasion, is the niece of the mob boss Tony Lash, they believe they have solved part of the slaughter. But why Steve and Grace Goodwyn were also murdered? Meanwhile, Greg and Morgan investigate the death of the gardener Burt Markell. His body was found in the trunk of his car torched and blown up and the CSIs investigate the crime.
"Backfire" is an episode of "CSI" divided in two segments. The first one, of the six-year-old Molly Goodwyn, is better and better. Hard to believe the attitude of the grandmother towards her son, sacrificing her granddaughter and grandson. The chemistry between Russell and Molly is wonderful. The other segment is hard to believe. I am not a chemistry technician, but I found to believe in a chemical reaction like the one that killed Burt Markell. My vote is eight.
