The Last Thing He Told Me Season 1 Episode 5 "The Never Dry" flips its narrative from a slow mystery to a fast-paced thriller. It further proves that good things come to those who wait, as it picks up where things left off in Season 1 Episode 4. This series has a condensed timeline, which is more evident than ever now. Hannah and Bailey embark on a quest to discover who the mystery woman is and why she looks so similar to Bailey. The pacing of The Last Thing He Told Me has skyrocketed since they got all of the exposition out of the way. However, the show would have been received better if it had a different distribution strategy, as each episode leaves the viewer wanting more. Hannah and Bailey are leaving the campus library when Bailey tells Hannah she is going to The Never Dry, asking her to join her. This is a subtle turning point for the story's main relationship. This is the first time that flashbacks in the series have a purpose, which has been criticized for destabilizing the plot. Bailey was hesitant about her father's relationship with Hannah, and had not warmed up to her stepmother until Owen's disappearance. This is a key turning point for their dynamic, as Bailey can finally trust the only person she has left. Angourie Rice's performance as the teenager is impressive. Bailey is a moody teenager, but also deeply vulnerable. Her only parental figure has broken his promise to be there for her. Rice has great material to work with, but she also has a bright future ahead of her. Grady, the US Marshall, has increased his involvement, allowing us to infer more about Owen's past and disappearance. Augusto Aguilera is a fun to watch, making the case that Grady's part of the story could have started earlier. The Last Thing He Told Me is committed to keeping Jules and Jake in the conversation, uncovering Owen's past in the same way that Grady is. It's interesting to see them doing duplicative work, uncovering Owen's past in the same way as Grady. Owen's will has been found, but we don't know if he is dead. Aisha Tyler and Geoff Stults have a fun dynamic, but the problem is that we're always missing part of the picture due to the two geographic locations. Aisha Tyler and Geoff Stults have a fun dynamic, but the problem is that we're always missing part of the picture. The premiere cut scene of The Last Thing He Told Me Season 1 Episode 1 is more impactful than the initial flashback in The Last Thing He Told Me Season 1 Episode 1. The music cues surrounding Bailey seem sinister and the darkness of the bar where most of his scenes might be clues to his motivations. There was enough in "The Never Dry" that leads me to believe Bailey is not actually missing, but rather paying a visit to Andrea. There is not enough information on this other new character yet to know whether or not she will be a force of good or evil. The premiere cut scene feels more impactful now that we know it was Grady in Hannah's hotel room.
