Denzel Washington‘s latest movie, Highest 2 Lowest, has declared its streaming release date on Apple TV, and it’s much earlier than expected. The movie is set to premiere in theaters on August 15, 2025, and yet, the streaming outlet has decided to launch the film merely 2 weeks after its theatrical debut – on September 5th.
For such a powerhouse platform, Apple TV is pulling back its punches when it comes to films. Recently, Brad Pitt‘s F1 proved how strong a movie can finish in theaters if given the right tools via promotion and marketing. Apple Studios has no shortage of budget in that regard, and yet, Highest 2 Lowest is not only flying blind into the theaters but also getting pulled back after a limited release.
This either proves the studio has no faith in Denzel Washington or that a film’s theatrical income doesn’t satisfy its streaming model,...

As one of the most reliable box office draws, Pitt is just as popular as ever, and he just beat his own record.
F1 has officially grossed $549 million at the worldwide box office, outgrossing the $540 million total of 2013's World War Z to become Brad Pitt's highest-grossing movie. Laying the foundation for his career, Ridley Scott’s very first historical movie was also his first foray into feature-making with 1977’s The Duellists. After scratching the itch, the famed director would go off into plenty of other creative alleyways, largely of the sci-fi variety, with favorites, such as Alien, Blade Runner, and Thelma & Louise, before eventually returning to his roots with Gladiator. Since then, Scott has stuck rather close to his bread and butter, putting out one historical behemoth after the other over the last 25 years. In 2023, the four-time Academy Award-winning helmer reteamed with one of his Gladiator stars, Joaquin Phoenix, to bring the story of one of history’s most infamous military men to life through the historical epic, Napoleon. Despite being considered to be one of Scott’s lesser projects, the title is now climbing the charts over at Apple TV+.

After navigating through the competition posed by Jurassic World Rebirth last week, F1 faced a fresh challenge from director James Gunn’s Superman reboot, which dominated theaters across the globe in its debut. F1 slipped to the third spot, as it continued its sprint towards the coveted $500 million milestone. The big-budget sports drama, produced by Apple Studios, was released theatrically by Warner Bros. It’s already the highest-grossing movie produced by a tech company, and on track to become the biggest film of star Brad Pitt’s career.
With $136 million domestically and another $257 million from overseas markets, F1 has cumulatively grossed $393 million worldwide. Outpacing all of Apple's previous tentpole film releases, F1: The Movie is on track to become the studio's biggest hit. The breakout success is unprecedented, considering the tech giant's string of box office disappointments.
Apple's F1: The Movie has grossed $293 million after ten days of screening, overtaking its $250 million production budget. Per Variety, the film is still in the red if its $100 million marketing spend is considered. That win improves Apple Studio's batting average, at least; with five theatrical films released to date, only two come close to F1's success. Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon grossed $158 million and $221 million globally at the end of their run, while Fly Me to the Moon and Argylle were commercial flops, earning only $42 million and $96 million.
If anything, F1 bolsters Apple's push to make more big-budget movies. Napoleon was a huge risk that did not pay off (it barely earned...

When it comes to Apple’s biggest films, “F1: The Movie” has officially moved to pole position.
“F1” has generated $293 million at the global box office after 10 days of release, overtaking the entire theatrical runs of Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” ($158 million worldwide) and Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” ($221 million) to stand as Apple’s highest-grossing movie to date. That’s not a particularly difficult benchmark to break, since Apple has only released five films theatrically and two of them, “Fly Me to the Moon” ($42 million) and “Argylle” ($96 million), were outright flops.
Yet the ticket sales for “F1” are at least a step in the right direction for the fledgling studio’s theatrical ambitions. After Apple siphoned off a string of commercial misfires, “F1” was considered an inflection point for the tech giant. There was a growing internal sense that if a crowd-pleaser like “F1” didn’t work on the big screen,...

Brad Pitt's newest movie, F1, is already setting records at the box office. The sports drama features Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a driver who returns to the circuit after a decades-long hiatus. The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and also stars Damson Idris (Joshua), Kerry Condon (Kate), and Javier Bardem (Ruben).
Warner Bros. and Apple Studios both distributed the production, though Apple served as the lead production company. The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (Fia), which is the organization that leads Formula One, also provided additional support, partly in the form of footage from existing races.
Just 10 days after its release, F1 has crossed the $250 million mark worldwide. With $184.1 million internationally, $109.5 million domestically, and $293.6 million globally, it is officially the first Apple Studios movie to cross that threshold. It only saw a global drop of around 44% this weekend, so it should continue to climb in the coming weeks.

Dinosaurs and racecars are at the top of the box office, so it’s safe to say summer movie season is in full swing.
Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth,” the seventh in the historic franchise, took a T-Rex-sized bite out of the box office with $26 million domestically from 6,105 venues on the Fourth of July. The Friday numbers were bolstered by an already solid performance since its initial release on July 2, earning $55.8 million before the weekend even began. Projections have “Rebirth” earning north of $140 million by Sunday, which would slot it as the seventh-highest domestic earner of 2025. The Universal camp needs the holiday momentum to continue through the coming weeks, considering the film’s production budget hovers around $180 million, not including marketing. Domestic gross over the traditional three-day frame is projected at $85 million.
While “Rebirth” is king of the box office this week, it actually had the lowest opening of any of the “Jurassic World” installments.

Brad Pitt’s Formula One racing spectacle F1: The Movie has delivered a small yet significant victory for the summer box office, accelerating to an impressive $161 million worldwide so far. The film capitalizes on the proven formula that propelled Tom Cruise from Days of Thunder through Top Gun: Maverick, combining high-octane thrills with practical filmmaking.
Critics have responded favorably to director Joseph Kosinski’s latest effort, and like his work in Maverick incentivized the theatrical industry to heal post-pandemic, his Formula 1 actioner is expected to rescue Apple Studios’ silver screen aspirations. Such heroics prove particularly auspicious for the company when accounting for its recent misadventures, which incurred hundreds of millions in losses.

Scarlett Johansson is no newcomer on the list of the richest celebrities and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, and her latest flick is poised to bring a major return, if early projections are anything to go by. As Jurassic World Rebirth marks the overall seventh installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, it also appears to be a significant milestone in the actress’ career box office collection.
Per the latest reports from Deadline, with its opening today (July 2) in the U.S., UK, China, Germany, Korea, Spain, and Italy, and yesterday (July 1) in Hong Kong, the overall global outlook for the movie by Sunday is currently being expected to stand at $260 million on the high end. About $130 million from this will be international grossing, and the rest from the U.S. box offices.

Scarlett Johansson’s new movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, arrives in theaters everywhere this week, but one of her more recent films that’s drifted into the ether has stayed a consistent streaming hit. Johansson stars alongside Channing Tatum in Fly Me to the Moon, the 2024 rom-com following a marketing maven who makes an even more difficult task for the NASA Launch Director even more challenging. Fly Me to the Moon began streaming on Apple TV+ last year, and the film is still in the top 10 in the United States, sitting at #9 at the time of writing. Fly Me to the Moon famously flopped by earning only $42 million at the box office against a $100 million budget, but it earned solid scores of 65% from critics and 89% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Jurassic World Rebirth Rotten Tomatoes Score ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
The Scarlett Johansson-led ambitious Jurassic World: Rebirth is about to enter the theater screens. With less than a week to its Independence Day premiere, the Gareth Edwards directorial had been inciting speculations in its hesitance to lift the review embargo in a timely fashion. And the reputation has preceded its next misadventures! The Jurassic Park sequel hasn’t been warmly received by critics. Its susceptibility to repetitiveness over originality has weighed it down.
The Jurassic Era Nears Its End? Here’s What Rotten Tomatoes Says
Based on 98 reviews, Jurassic World: Rebirth currently holds a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. When it comes to Jurassic Park sequels, audiences and critics have been echoing alike that maybe the franchise has run its course and it’s time to put the dinosaurs to sleep. And once again, critics have not deviated from this message.

Champagne showers, a staple of Formula One races, may be reserved for the racetrack, but the mood at Apple was certainly celebratory over the weekend, as the big-budget “F1” delivered the studio its first box office hit.
The film, starring Brad Pitt as a has-been Formula One driver who gets coerced out of retirement, generated $57 million domestically and $146.3 million in its opening weekend. Apple just hit a major milestone with its newest movie, “F1,” which made a huge $144 million around the world in its first weekend. In the U.S. and Canada, it earned $55.6 million, according to box office numbers reported on Sunday, June 29.
This is a big deal for Apple. They’ve been making movies for a few years now, but their track record in theaters hasn’t been great. They’ve had some hits on streaming, like “Coda,” which won an Oscar in 2021, but most of their films didn’t do much in cinemas.
Some of Apple’s earlier movies, like “Argylle,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” and the expensive historical dramas “Napoleon” and “Killers of the Flower Moon,” didn’t get much love in theaters. Instead, people mostly watched those at home on Apple TV+.

Apple just scored its biggest box-office success ever with “F1,” which brought in $144 million globally during its opening weekend. In North America alone, the film made $55.6 million, according to studio estimates released on Sunday, June 29.
This is a big win for Apple, which has had a mixed history when it comes to releasing movies in theaters. While they’ve won awards — like the Oscar for “Coda” in 2021 — they haven’t had much luck turning their movies into big theater hits.
Films like “Argylle,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” and big-budget titles like “Napoleon” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” were more successful on their streaming service, Apple TV+, than at the box office.

But “F1” was Apple’s first attempt at a true summer blockbuster. They won the rights after a bidding war and teamed up with Warner Bros. to get it into theaters.

It’s lights out and away we go at the box office as “F1,” a big-budget racing drama starring Brad Pitt, impressively revs to $55.6 million in its domestic opening weekend.
With great reviews and a promising “A” grade on CinemaScore exit polls, “F1” landed in the middle of expectations of $50 million to $60 million. At the International box office, the film collected a strong $88.4 million from 78 markets. Those initial ticket sales are significant given “F1” is an adult-skewing tentpole that’s not part of an existing film franchise — a rarity in today’s I.P.-dominated movie theater landscape. Directed by “Top Gun: Maverick’s” Joseph Kosinski, “F1” follows Pitt as a retired Formula One driver who is convinced to return to the popular motorsport to coach a slick rookie (Damson Idris) and save a failing team.
“F1” also marks the first commercial hit for Apple, the tech giant that financed the nearly $250 million movie.

Apple Studios is scoring its biggest opening ever with the Brad Pitt racing thriller “F1,” headed for first in its box office debut. Meanwhile, Universal’s “M3GAN 2.0” isn’t catching the same spark in its opening, projecting a fourth place start behind holdovers “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Elio.”
On top, “F1” hit the track with $25 million across Friday and previews from 3,661 locations. The movie is playing in Imax auditoriums and most other premium-large formats too. Apple outsourced distribution here, partnering with Warner Bros. The team-up has made a splash.
Industry tracking was all over the place for “F1,” given the relative rarity of big-budget adult-skewing productions outside of established film franchises (though the Formula One Group’s branding and grand prix racing tournaments are still globally popular IP — the basis for most summer tentpoles). “F1” is now on pace to hit the upper end of its pre-weekend forecasts,...

There are currently a lot of IMAX tickets sold for the Thursday and Friday screenings of the F1 The Movie. The premium format is said to be a very immersive experience for the film and our own Chris Bumbray glowed in his 9/10 review that it’s “one of the most awe-inspiring works of pure spectacle seen on the big screen in years. It’s stunning to look at, and the IMAX ratio makes the racing scenes feel like a rollercoaster ride.” He also stated, “It can’t be denied that F1 is an absolute rollercoaster ride of a movie, and – like Sinners – helps make the case for theatres still being essential to a particular kind of filmmaking. Hopefully, this is the blockbuster hit it deserves to be.”
He has also written a column about why you should see F1 in IMAX, which you can check out Here. Deadline has reported...

Apple Original Films F1 via Warner Bros. sped to $10M in total previews from this week while Universal/Blumhouse/Atomic Monster’s M3GAN 2.0 drew $1.5M.
The Joseph Kosinski directed, Jerry Bruckheimer produced Formula One movie starring Brad Pitt, arguably the first of its kind tentpole for Apple Original Films on the big screen, bested the preview grosses of such Apple expensive movies as Ridley Scott’s Napoleon ($3M), Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon ($2.6M), Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle ($1.7M) and Greg Berlanti’s Fly Me to the Moon ($875K). F1 also smokes the previews of another racing car movie, the multi Oscar winning, solid grossing Ford v. Ferrari which is actually a high point for the struggling car sports genre at the box office; the best that there has been in recent times.

It would be fair to say it's been a mad old year for Channing Tatum. In the past twelve months, the Magic Mike star has helped launch Apollo 11 (Fly Me To The Moon), gotten his rocks off as a cancelled tech billionaire with a dark secret (Blink Twice), finally shuffled the deck of Marvel's Ragin' Cajun Gambit (Deadpool & Wolverine), and brought some Hollywood magic to Wrexham AFC. If the first trailer for Derek Cianfrance's true story inspired Roofman is anything to go by though, it looks like things are about to get even more cray-cray for Tatum as he takes on the role of Jeffrey Manchester, a kindly ex military man who *checks notes* robbed a bunch of McDonald's', got sent to jail, escaped jail, and then *double checks notes* hid out in a Toys R Us for months on end while holding down a relationship and nabbing...

If you feel like you’ve been seeing “The Tonight Show” all over your TikTok and Instagram Reels lately, that’s not a coincidence. That’s partially the work of a team led by Nick Dyer, the show’s head of digital and supervising producer. This year “The Tonight Show” saw 9.2 billion views across social media from June 1, 2024 to May 30, 2025, marking a 55% rise compared to the same time period last year, TheWrap has exclusively learned.
“What we’ve seen with some of our biggest guests who do show content and digital content is that it’s a rising-tides-lifts-all-boats mentality,” Dyer told TheWrap. “Wherever people are watching Jimmy [Fallon] and the show is a win in our books because it just means they’re more likely to consume us, no matter what screen they’re on.”
“The Tonight Show” is the No. 1 late night show when it comes to social followers and engagement.

Star Trek fans surely got a kick out of seeing Star Trek III: The Search for Spock villain Christopher Lloyd co-starring as Doc Brown alongside Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly in Back to the Future. And those same fans no doubt loved it when Marty, disguised and masking his voice, identifies himself to his future father as “Darth Vader… from the planet Vulcan,” and proceeds to offer the patented split-fingered Vulcan greeting.
But… a document from 1984, from the office of Back to the Future’s casting directors, Fenton-Feinberg Casting, reveals that several other familiar Star Trek names were considered before director Robert Zemeckis chose Lloyd. Among those considered: Joe Piscopo, Rene Auberjonois, Paul Dooley, Kevin Conway, and Gerrit Graham. Piscopo later played The Comic in the Star Trek: The Next Generation second-season episode, “The Outrageous Okona,” which premiered in 1988. Scarlett Johansson is one of the most important actors in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having portrayed Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff, on screen for over a decade. The character (spoilers?) eventually died in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame," and while Johansson returned to the role two years later in the movie "Black Widow" (which takes place before "Endgame" in the McU's timeline), she has made it clear Black Widow herself is going to stay dead. All the same, it previously appeared as though Johansson had since reunited with Marvel Studios, having landed an executive producer credit on 2025's "Thunderbolts*." However, it turns out that she tried to have that credit removed.
Johansson touched on this while speaking to "Thunderbolts*" star David Harbour, who made his MCU debut in "Black Widow," in a piece for Interview Magazine. The two spoke on the very day that "Thunderbolts*" hit theaters and had a good-natured exchange about it.

At first glance, "Fountain of Youth," Guy Ritchie's new action-adventure film made for Apple TV+, looks like a fun, family-friendly romp about an intrepid explorer and thief named Luke Purdue (John Krasinski), who recruits his sister Charlotte (Natalie Portman) to join him on a quest to find the mythical "fountain of youth." Joined by Charlotte's son Thomas (Benjamin Chivers), a billionaire seeking the fountain to cure his terminal cancer named Owen Carter (Domhnall Gleeson), Luke's old accomplices Deb McCall and Patrick Murphy (Carmen Egojo and Laz Alonso), and a competing explorer/thief named Esme (Eiza González) who keeps tracking Luke, they all set out to find the fountain that's been mentioned across continents and cultures for centuries.
This sounds at least a little promising. The end result is anything but. "Fountain of Youth" is a slog that stretches for 2 hours and 5 interminable minutes, stranding Krasinski, Portman, Gleeson, and all...

Avengers: Doomsday has announced its massive cast list, featuring many Marvel stars who will be part of this superhero feature. While this upcoming Marvel movie will bring back some familiar faces like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, not everyone is invited. One of them is Scarlett Johansson, who revealed that she has no interest in reprising her role of Black Widow.
In a recent interview, Johansson stated that she isn't going to appear in Avengers: Doomsday because it wouldn't make sense storywise. According to her, Black Widow's story has already ended, and she didn't want to mess with that for the sake of the fans. While she does care about Black Widow's story, the actress admits that she misses her Marvel co-stars.
“It would be tough for me to understand in what capacity [returning] would make sense for me, for the character that I play. I miss my buddies and...

When you take a moment to pause and truly take in the world around you, the staggering beauty of nature becomes clear, just as its quiet demolition at our hands becomes impossible to ignore. After more than five years of research and prep, director Anna Cornudella brings us a world where humans have adapted to live according to nature, rather than uprooting forests and building skyscrapers. The Human Hibernation presents us with a whole new world order, where humans, animals, and plants share the Earth with almost no communication. The makers have stripped humans of their superior qualities, and they must hibernate in the winter to survive. The movie is a captivating slow burn, and if you make it past the first few minutes, you’ll find it to be a truly rewarding experience.
