Ouija: Origin Of Evil Ott Release Update: Where To Watch Mike Flanagan’s Acclaimed Horror Flick Online?
Image
Ouija: Origin Of Evil(Photo Credit –YouTube)

Mike Flanagan took what many thought was a fading horror property and turned it into something memorable. Nearly ten years after Universal Pictures first followed up the poorly received Ouija film, his Ouija: Origin of Evil stood out as a rare sequel-prequel that won over both critics and audiences. Mike Flanagan directed and co-wrote the film, crafting a story that managed to pull strong box office numbers while earning praise as a significant step up from its predecessor.

Where To Watch Ouija: Origin Of Evil On Ott?

The movie arrived in theaters on October 21, 2016 and now it is returning to screens in the US through Tubi starting August 16, giving viewers a chance to revisit it at no cost, according to Collider. The cast, starring Elizabeth Reaser, Lulu Wilson, and Annalise Basso as the ill-fated Zander family, also included Henry Thomas as Father Thomas Hogan...

Conjuring Tapes Movie Ending Explained: Are Molly And Sam Dead?
Image
Found-footage horror is the one subgenre that truly puts the fear of God in me; while Host, V/H/S, and Late Night with the Devil have kept it alive in recent years, Randy Nundlall Jr.’s Conjuring Tapes shows you can still make something terrifying on a budget the size of a matchbox. The plot may seem simple at first, but the film quickly makes you sit up, noticing the small, unnerving details and questioning the true nature of its antagonist—a certain Mr. Magpie. Long regarded as birds of ill omen, magpies carry a wealth of dark lore, and the director squeezes every shadowy drop from it to craft a truly unsettling found-footage horror that ventures into some pitch-black territory over its lean 79-minute runtime.

Spoilers Ahead

What happens in the film?

Molly dreams of her friend Sarah putting a gun to her head and pulling the trigger.

Watch Mike Flanagan’s 'Ouija: Origin of Evil' For Free August 2025
Image
Almost a decade ago, Universal Pictures released the follow-up to the critically panned horror film, Ouija, which was met with rave reviews from critics thanks to Mike Flanagan's brilliance. Directed and co-written by Flanagan, Ouija: Origin of Evilserved as a prequel to its 2014 predecessor and was not only a critical success but also made waves at the box office. The hit movie was released in theaters on October 21, 2016, and years later has found a streaming home in the U.S., where fans can finally revisit it for free.

Ouija: Origin of Evil will begin streaming on Tubi on August 16, reminding fans of Flanagan’s remarkable work, which is regarded as a significant improvement over Ouija. The film starred Elizabeth Reaser, Lulu Wilson, and Annalise Basso as Alice, Doris, and Lina, making up the unfortunate Zander who encountered a menacing spirit summoned from a Ouija board. Henry Thomas, a frequent Flanagan collaborator,...

Blumhouse's New Horror Movie Underwhelms Compared To Original $180M Box Office Hit
Image
M3GAN 2.0 has significantly underperformed during its opening weekend compared to the original smash hit. 2023's M3GAN followed roboticist Gemma (Allison Williams) accidentally programming an AI doll, M3GAN (Amie Donald and Jenna Davis) to violently defend her orphaned niece Cady (Violet McGraw). The viral smash hit grossed $180 million against its reported $12 million budget.

The M3GAN 2.0 release kicked off two and a half years later. The new movie takes on more of a sci-fi-action bent, following M3GAN defending Gemma and Cady from an even more powerful robot named Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno).

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, M3GAN 2.0 is projected to earn a 3-day opening weekend of $10.4 million at the domestic box office. This total falls considerably short of its original projections, which saw it earning $30 million or more.

It similarly falls short of the domestic opening weekend of the original M3GAN, which earned $30.4 million when it debuted in January 2023. However,...

Netflix Viewers Flock to This Shocking Underrated Horror Sequel From Genius Filmmaker
Image
IP-based horror picture Ouija didn’t win over many critics upon release in 2014, but it slayed at the box office, returning more than $100 million globally on an estimated budget of $5 million. With returns like that, it’s no great surprise that we got a sequel two years later. What does come as a surprise, however, is how much better the second series installment is. Despite its status as the superior effort, Ouija: Origin of Evil doesn’t always seem to get the recognition it deserves. It’s as if the flick had its moment in the sun upon release and then faded into the background. That’s a shame considering it has real staying power. You don’t have to take my word for it, though. Ouija: Origin of Evil is presently streaming on Netflix, meaning you can experience the film for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

When we...

All Mike Flanagan Movies Ranked
Image
Mike Flanagan has had one of the most unusual paths to success out of any auteur filmmaking of his generation. Although it was a series of low-budget, high concept horror films that first signified to cinephiles that he had talent, Flanagan built a strong fanbase due to his work on television. In an era of “prestige television,” directors are often given more opportunities to make challenging, original projects on streaming, as cinemagoers have shown little interest in films that don’t come from pre-established franchises. Thanks to the success of “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” “Midnight Mass,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher,” Flanagan was able to deepen his focus into family tragedy, guilt, and the pervasive evil of manipulation. “Cathartic” is a strange word to use for the horror genre, but it’s accurate when describing the unique way that Flanagan draws his characters.

Haunted house horror has never really left us, but some of its best offerings definitely flew under the radar. While The Conjuring and Sinister soaked up the spotlight, several haunting gems quietly delivered top-tier frights in dimly lit hallways and creaking staircases. Below are five underappreciated haunted house flicks from this century that deserve your attention. Some are slow burns, others come out swinging, but all have earned their place among the most underrated.

Mike Flanagan set to work with a number of frequent collaborators in Amazon's Carrie series
Image
Mike Flanagan is assembling his cast for his upcoming adaptation of Carrie, and he’s bringing back a lot of familiar faces for the horror series!

He has quickly made his name as a modern-day master of horror. He wrote and directed several films like Oculus, Ouija, Gerald’s Game, and Doctor Sleep. Flanagan has really made his mark on television with his Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

Each project was inventive, scary, thought-provoking, and boasting a first-rate cast to win over viewers. They ranged from adapting works like Edgar Allen Poe to more original storylines while still enthralling those watching.

Now, Flanagan is ready to take on a famous property in Carrie. The upcoming eight-episode Prime Video series will star Summer Howell in the title role of a troubled teen.

Mike Flanagan Closes SXSW London With ‘Life of Chuck’ as Director Hails ‘Beauty’ of Horror, Apologizes for ‘Killing’ Blumhouse’s ‘Ouija’ Franchise
Image
Mike Flanagan has brought the curtain down on the inaugural SXSW London with the U.K. premiere of his latest feature “The Life of Chuck.”

Despite the feature being the filmmaker’s first major foray away from horror, in a wide-ranging Q&a before the screening at London’s Barbican Centre Flanagan discussed his work in the genre (and love of it), his ongoing collaborations with Stephen King and even offered some news information about his upcoming “Carrie” TV series.

On the ongoing shift in perception towards horror, Flanagan said that the genre “tends to struggle to get credibility,” arguing that for each cycle of breakout titles — and even Oscar wins such as “Get Out” — “a lot of people outside the genre remain perpetually surprised” by its success. “Every now and then, when you see Jordan Peele win an Academy Award, everyone talks about how this legitimized the horror genre,...

Netflix is Now Streaming One of the Scariest, Most Underrated Horror Sequels Ever
Image
Mike Flanagan is undoubtedly my favorite horror filmmaker working today. In the best ways, he reminds me a great deal of the late Wes Craven. While their styles might be different, the humanity innate in their work shares profound parallels. I’m a bit of a sap, so humanistic horror filmmaking is always going to win me over. When vampires take over a small island, I want some tears with the bloodshed, okay?

Recently, Mike Flanagan has been principally riding the Stephen King train, helming some of the best adaptations of the author’s work of all time. There’s no reason Gerald’s Game should have worked as an adaptation, though thanks to Flanagan (and a fantastic Carla Gugino), it did. The forthcoming The Life of Chuck, while not a horror movie, is already getting rave reviews, including from our own Managing Editor Josh Korngut. A decade ago, however, Flanagan...

Maika Monroe drops out of Neon horror movie in favor of a Colleen Hoover adaptation
Image
Neon's upcoming horror film Brides from Watcher director Chloe Okuno just received an update, leaving fans in a good news/bad news situation. Bad news first. Maika Monroe will no longer star in the vehicle that would have reunited her with Okuno after the pair worked together on Watcher.

The good news is that she's been replaced by Olivia Cooke, who is also a great actress and no stranger to the world of horror, having starred in Thoroughbreds, Ouija, and Bates Motel, though nowadays she's best known for playing Alicent Hightower in House of the Dragon.

Deadline shares that Monroe had to drop out of the project due to scheduling issues with her film Reminders of Him, an adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel of the same name in production from Universal Pictures.

Okuno made her feature directorial debut with Watcher, a Hitchcockian thriller about a woman who believes...

Ouija: The New Beginning Ending Explained & Movie Recap: Who Is The Real Evil Spirit?
Image
The lore of witchcraft and ancient hexes has haunted the genre of horror films, from Bloody Mary to Babadook. With its historical artifacts, relics, and rituals, witchcraft is not a flimsy genre to deal with—it may not rely on jump scares, but its spiritual implications often run gendered and deep. Its reliance on rituals, grimoires, and talismans like dolls, Ouija boards, and other trinkets makes for a rich tapestry to be explored by modern-day witchcraft enthusiasts and historians alike! While history holds a marginal space for witches, the ritual goods can often be found refurbished in thrift stores, at backyard sales, and as collectibles—we often decorate with them for the aesthetic, mysterious value that they add, but what if there was a kernel of spiritual truth encased in these relics? One has to be careful about the energy they are inviting into their home, for it may just...

There’s No Zombie Roseanne in ‘The Conners’ Finale, Producers Claim
Image
The Roseanne-verse finally comes to an end this week with the series finale of The Conners. While we don’t know exactly what will happen, it will no doubt focus on the titular family’s wrongful death lawsuit against the pharmaceutical company responsible for making the opioids that Roseanne Conner overdosed on.

It’s kind of funny that the show has been able to wring so much drama out of a plot point that was only introduced because Roseanne Barr was fired from Roseanne. That’s like if Two and a Half Men ended with a dramatic court case involving the manufacturers of the piano that fell on Charlie Sheen.

What should we expect from the finale of The Conners? According to executive producer Bruce Helford, we should expect the unexpected. “There’s something that happens in the final episode that I don’t think has ever happened on broadcast television,...

The 10 Worst Horror Movie Villains Ranked
Image
When a horror movie villain is good, they can make even the worst movies watchable if not enjoyable. When they're great, they can become some of the biggest entertainment icons in film history. But when they're bad? Oh, bother...

From cliched ghost children to cheap cash-grab-creatures using intellectual property in the public domain, the last few decades have introduced some truly horrific (in the bad way) additions to the genre that prove not every ghoul is cut out for the silver scream. We braved popular blockbusters, maligned remakes, and indie cult classics, scrutinizing the headlining monsters and murderers of each to assess their originality, design, and how they support their respective stories overall. We found a few truly terrible films were nearly rescued by an antagonist that met these standards with flying colors (our compliments to young Brahms).

On the other hand, when they failed to do so, the film couldn't be totally saved,...

1983 Police Report released about controversial film, The Baphomet Seance
Image
It’s recently been announced that the controversial 1983 satanic film, The Baphomet Seance is being re-released after being shelfed for decades.

There was much political and religious backlash in the 1980’s for films such as Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) that depicted a manic Santa Claus and Faces of Death (1978) that featured “real” footage of death.

These films became very popular during the mom and pop video store boom of the 80’s and they gained a cult following among horror genre movie goers.

This begs the question, why was The Baphomet Seance buried and almost completely forgotten about? In an uncovered police report recently published on Ncn News Channel Nebraska, we find out more about the controversial happenings related to the film.

**Case Number:** 5479-xyb

Image
Last year, fans enjoyed an exceptional entry in the franchise A Quiet Place. But A Quiet Place: Day One wasn't a continuation of the story that captivated worldwide audiences in 2018 and 2021, respectively. A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II tells the story of the Abbott family, a few of the many survivors of an alien invasion that forces humankind to start living in absolute silence. Fans are still eager to know what happened to the surviving Abbotts, and according to producer Brad Fuller, they will find out soon enough. A Quiet Place Part IIIis still on track and in active development.

Fuller spoke to The Direct while at SXSW Festival to promote The Astronaut, his latest film starring Kate Mara, Laurence Fishburne and Gabriel Luna. The producer, known for his work on franchises like The Purge, Ouija, and a slew of horror remakes in the 2000s, offered a...

‘Night Talkers’ Movie Ending Explained & Full Story: Who Is A Skinwalker?
Image
Night Talkers has a cool premise and an even cooler ending. The stories in between are hits and misses, but the ending—albeit predictable—is a game changer. We’re certainly going to dissect that in this article, and also touch on the three main stories of this little horror anthology, which is written and directed by Topher Chambers.

Spoilers Ahead

What is the movie about?

Ari Hall runs a widely popular late-night horror show—called ‘Night Talkers’—on the local radio station of Marshalltown. He mostly invites guests at the studio, who share their strange experiences, but for once, he has decided to tweak the format. It just so happens to be a night with a storm warning—this bit of setup doesn’t have any impact, though—when Hall asks his listeners to call and share their ghost stories. The phone starts ringing like crazy, and the first...

Jerry Seinfeld Was Desperate to Work With Joan Rivers, Who Called Him ‘Perfectly Average’
Image
Jerry Seinfeld has gotten to meet and work with a number of iconic comedians over the years. He appeared on Rodney Dangerfield’s HBO special, went for a ride with Eddie Murphy on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and once hung out with the ghosts of Abbott and Costello for some reason.

Play

But one legendary comic that Seinfeld never got the chance to interact with on his over-caffeinated Crackle/Netflix series was Joan Rivers.

Following her death in 2014, Seinfeld revealed that he had actually asked Rivers to be his “lead guest” on the new season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. He even shared an old text message documenting that she said she would “Love” to be on the show.

Unfortunately, according to Seinfeld, Rivers had to postpone the taping because she was “going in for a medical procedure.” This was in late August; Rivers died on September 4th...

Witchboard: Grosse Pointe Blank director George Armitage was once attached to helm a 1986 horror classic
George Armitage
Just over a week ago, we had to share the sad news that director George Armitage, best known for bringing the world Grosse Pointe Blank and Miami Blues, had passed away at the age of 82. Armitage got his start in the entertainment industry at the start of the 1970s, writing the film Gas-s-s for producer Roger Corman and then going on to write and direct Private Duty Nurses and write Night Call Nurses, also for Corman. By the end of the ’70s, he had written and directed the films Hit Man and Vigilante Force, as well as the TV movie Hot Rods, and wrote the scripts for the film Darktown Strutters and an episode of the TV series Monty Nash. Oddly, he did not earn any writing or directing credits in the 1980s – but, of course, this was not for a lack of trying. In fact, Kevin Tenney, the writer...

Olivia Cooke's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
The best Olivia Cooke movies and TV shows reveal one of the most consistently uphill career trajectories of any actor to enter the spotlight in the last few decades and include a staggeringly consistent number of critically acclaimed projects. Born in 1993 in the UK, Olivia Cooke is most widely recognized for her role as Alicent Hightower in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, as well as shows like Bates Motel and highly celebrated movies such as Sound of Metal and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.

Olivia Cooke’s on-screen career started in 2012 in BBC miniseries like Blackout and The Secret of Crickley Hall. However, it was the 2014 horror The Quiet Ones (which was filmed several years before it released) that allowed her to lay the foundations of her career. The 15 Best Sequels To Bad Movies
Image
It's a common refrain that the sequel is never as good as the original, with some movie sequels that truly didn't need to happen tainting the first film's legacy. Every so often, a sequel like "The Dark Knight" or "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" comes along that's just as good, if not better, than the first. These are the follow-ups that build upon a solid foundation to keep the characters' journeys going. But what happens when that foundation is filled with cracks and holes?

A bad movie doesn't bode well for a series' future. Whether the first movie got off to a rocky start or a franchise is already a few films deep and starting to lose its luster, it can be easy to write the whole thing off. But there are those rare cases where a sequel to an awful movie turns out to be pretty good, if not downright fantastic.

Willa Fitzgerald at an event for Reacher (2022)
Strange Darling distributor is suing its marketing partner over disappointing box office
Willa Fitzgerald at an event for Reacher (2022)
Just before Halloween back in 2022, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. The movie was given a theatrical release back in August, and JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols loved it; you can read his 9/10 review at This Link. It has since moved on to digital and physical media releases… but distributor Magenta Light Productions feels that it should have performed better at the box office, and believe it would have if the film had a better marketing campaign. So they have filed a lawsuit against their marketing partner, Spellbinder.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Magenta Light Productions, in a fraud and breach of contract lawsuit filed this week in Los Angeles Superior Court,...

Popeye The Slayer Man Stalks A Spinach Factory In Gruesome Red Band Trailer

Last week, we shared a first look at some promo stills for a new Popeye horror movie from ITN Studios. Then, we brought you the first trailer for a completely separate project from Alpeke Entertainment called Shiver Me Timbers.

We mistakenly assumed these movies were one and the same, and we now have word on a third Popeye slasher flick from Salem House Films, Millman Productions, Ron Lee Productions, and Otsego Media titled Popeye the Slayer Man.

Directed by Robert Michael Ryan from a script by John Doolan, the movie focuses on “a group of friends who sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the Sailor Man, who is said to haunt the factory and local docks.”

Exclusive: “Well, blow me down!”, as the curmudgeonly sailor would say. Popeye is the latest iconic public domain character to get a horror movie adaptation.

In fact, there are two on the loose at the same time. A few days ago, news dropped of a “raunchy horror” from ITN Studios. Today, we can bring news of Popeye The Slayer Man, which will also explore an alternate backstory for the legendary sailor, and is also aiming for release in 2025. First stills are above and below.

This film follows a group of friends who sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the ‘Sailor Man’, who is said to haunt the factory and local docks.

Will Forte was warned by a spirit that he’ll be stabbed to death at 73
Image
Will Forte is one of my favourite comic actors, but he may only have 19 years left to live. At least, that’s if you believe what a pissed-off spirit said through an Ouija board. While appearing on Rachel Dratch’s Woo Woo podcast, Forte flashed back to when he was a teenager and asked the Ouija board how he was going to die. The spirit answered that he was going to be stabbed to death at 73. Very specific.

The prediction happened when Forte was a teenager and had visited a girl he was interested in. The girl was friends with a “self-proclaimed witch” who brought over the Ouija board. “I would ask questions of this Ouija board that nobody else would know the answers to, and it would get the answers correct. And so I was pretty blown away,” Forte said. “I was thinking, like, is there a way that...

10 Best Agatha Harkness Moments In the MCU After Agatha All Along
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Agatha All Along.

Marvel Television's Agatha All Along included many incredible Agatha Harkness moments, adding to the Salem witch's highlights from her MCU debut in WandaVision. Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness made a huge impact on WandaVision as the magical infiltrator of the Scarlet Witch's Hex around Westview, New Jersey. Three years after Wanda Maximoff put Agatha under a spell, trapping her as nosy neighbor Agnes, Agatha was broken free and set out with a new coven down the Witches' Road in Agatha All Along.

Agatha Harkness is one of the most interesting and complex new characters introduced to the MCU, and Hahn's portrayal of the centuries-old witch has been outstanding. Now that Agatha All Along has come to an end with its dramatic double-finale on October 30, more has been revealed about Agatha Harkness' history in the MCU, including her romance with Aubrey Plaza's Death,...

How Agatha All Along’s Finale Broke The Rules – And Sent The MCU Down A Whole New Road
Image
Warning: Contains major spoilers for the entirety of Agatha All Along

If there's one thing Marvel loves, it's a final battle. According to the MCU handbook, the epic culmination of a hero's journey must end with a big CGI-fuelled spectacle where good and evil clash via pew-pew laser hands before justice is won and the end credits roll. But Agatha Harkness isn't one to play by the rules, and that was especially true of her solo series, which consistently defied expectation — don't say it — all along. WandaVision sequel Agatha All Along followed its predecessor with some big swings that played with the Marvel formula, conjuring key elements into something new and, dare we say, even magical.

Yet the full extent of this didn’t become clear until the two-part finale that turned the show on its head faster than Lilia Calderu flipping those cards and reversing the tower. Because as it turns out,...

10 Agatha All Along Clues You Probably Missed the First Time
Image
The following contains spoilers for Agatha All Along Episode 9, "Maiden Mother Crone," now streaming on Disney+.

Agatha All Along has been full of twists and turns that have kept fans guessing week after week. Its predecessor, WandaVision, took a puzzle box approach to its storytelling, so audiences knew to be on their toes going into the new series. With so much speculation going on about certain characters' true identities and motives, perhaps it was inevitable that some fans would correctly divine a few of its big twists, like Joe Locke's Teen being Billy Maximoff. That said, the show still manages to trick viewers with subtle hints scattered throughout the season.

Although viewers knew to expect certain reveals in Agatha All Along, the series included some successful red herrings and other clues that could easily be misinterpreted or missed altogether on a first watch. These clues also weren't just about surprises that audiences predicted,...

Agatha All Along's MCU connections
Image
Considering that Agatha All Along is a spinoff from WandaVision, Disney Plus’ first proper MCU television series, there are naturally many links to its predecessor. Several inhabitants of Westview return for this show, both as players in Agatha’s spellbound detective drama dreamscape, as well as ordinary citizens in the real world. Senor Scratchy is also still around – he was the pet bunny that Agatha lent to Wanda for her magic show in WandaVision. Early on, the pendant that Agatha finds in the woods is the same one she wears throughout WandaVision.

In the pilot, Agatha searches for the book from a dead body’s library slip, before she learns it is the deceased Scarlet Witch. At the library, within the “true crime” hex, first she is told that the book was stolen, and then she sees that all the copies were burned. This is a reference to the Darkhold,...

'Every Car Was Destroyed': Hysteria! Stars Reveal Weird Events on Show's Set
Image
Peacock's Hysteria! is the perfect blend of supernatural horror and the genuine fear that came when the Satanic Panic was at its height. The result is a TV series with a lot of moving parts that delivers thanks to its talented cast and crew. The biggest standouts are the show's main characters, Dylan, Spud and Jordy -- members of a band who get in over their heads when they accidentally start a satanic cult.

Cbr had the opportunity to sit down with actors Emjay Anthony (who plays Dylan), Kezii Curtis (Spud) and Chiara Aurelia (Jordy) to discuss what it was like to be in a band and whether they actually had to learn the instruments they were shown playing in the series. Plus, they shed light on scary things that happened during the filming of Hysteria! that made the standout show even more unnerving.

Agatha All Along Confirms the McU's Death - But We Knew That Already
Image
The following contains major spoilers for Agatha All Along, Episode 7, "Death's Hand in Mine," now streaming on Disney+.

The seventh episode of Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along came with yet another major reveal for the series. The previous two episodes confirmed Joe Locke's Teen was actually Billy Maximoff, the son of the Scarlet Witch, revealing how he survived the collapse of Wanda's Hex over Westview. Now Episode 7, "Death's Hand in Mine," has featured the debut appearance of the McU's iteration of Death -- or, at least, the first appearance of Death in her true form. As many fans had predicted, Death has actually been a part of Agatha All Along since its very first episode, hidden among the coven.

In Marvel's comic continuity, Death has often been presented as a female character, most infamously known for being the love interest of Thanos. However, when Thanos was introduced to the MCU,...
