When Buddy and Rob sing "Doodly-doodly doo-doo-doo", they're singing Franz Schubert's song "Erlkönig", which is a song about a supernatural being on horseback that abducts children. The orchestra's transitional music to end the scene is a playful rendition of the same song.

Goofs
In the writers' office, Ric Vallone is visibly singing to piano accompaniment (alternately played by Sally and Rob), yet the sound track backing Ric is that of a full studio jazz band. Also, Rob and Sally's (Dick and Rose's) styles of faking piano play are notably different from each other, even though the style of music does not change.

A pretty stupid plot here in "Like a Sister".

"Like a Sister" is one of he more nonsensical episodes of "The Dick Van Dyke Show". It is very poorly written and is a bit embarrassing to watch...and not in a good way.

Rick Valone (Vic Damone) is going to be the guest on "The Alan Brady Show". When Sally sees him, she is smitten and the two end up spending a lot of time together. However, while Sally is very interested, Rick sees her more like a sister or a friend. So when Rob confronts him about this, they concoct a stupid plan to get Sally to hate him.

The plan of having Rick being a nasty drunk is incredibly contrived and silly...but NOT in a good way. After all, why not just have Rick tell her he isn't interested! A huge misfire due to the nonsensical plot.

By the way, when Vic Damone is singing, you see Sally and then Rob on the piano in their office...and hear drums and trumpets from seemingly out of no where.
