The Fantastic Four: First Steps Worldwide Box Office: Outgrosses Harrison Ford’s Big-Budget Action-Adventure
Image
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Overtakes A Major Action-Adventure Starring Harrison Ford (Photo Credit – Instagram)

The Fantastic Four: First Steps opened to a strong box office debut, backed by an impressive 86% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 7.3/10 IMDb rating. With such a promising start, Marvel’s latest superhero outing seemed poised for a blockbuster run. However, momentum slowed sooner than expected, as the film saw a sharp drop in its second weekend. The silver lining: with no major new releases, there’s little competition to pull audiences away from theaters.

Currently ranking among the year’s top ten highest-grossing films worldwide, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is projected to finish its theatrical run between $520 million and $570 million globally (per Screen Rant). Its current global total stands at over $385 million (per Box Office Mojo), so there’s still plenty of ground to cover. In its pursuit of profitability during its theatrical run,...

Liam Neeson Asked Steven Spielberg To Fire Him From A Movie After A Table Read
Image
Steven Spielberg and Liam Neeson worked together on the 1993 classic "Schindler's List" (seen above). The film tells the story of Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who hopes to keep his factories open even as the Nazi party comes to power in Germany. He pays off Nazi officials to employ Jewish workers, effectively shielding them from the Nazi death camps. It takes him some time to realize that he's doing something heroic. He soon begins over-employing his factories, pointedly saving as many Jewish people as possible. At the end of the war, he is said to have saved about 1,200 people.

Neeson's performance was sensitive and tragic, and it earned the actor his only Oscar nomination to date. It seemed logical that Neeson and Spielberg should want to work together again at some point, but it took many years for the appropriate project to manifest. In 2005, it was reported by Variety that the project had been found.

Steven Spielberg Snuck A Star Wars Easter Egg Into Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Image
It's easy to forget that George Lucas was the original creative force behind the Indiana Jones franchise. His love of early 20th-century adventure film serials led him to "Star Wars" -- a response to his inability to secure the actual "Buck Rogers" rights -- while 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was conceived from similar inspirations. In fact, Lucas came up with the idea in 1973, four years before "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" hit theaters. Even the name "Indiana" was taken from Lucas' dog -- the same one who inspired the character of Chewbacca.

After "Star Wars" became a massive success, Lucas didn't have the time or drive to make his swashbuckling archeology story a reality, and he ended up handing the project off to his close friend Steven Spielberg and "The Empire Strikes Back" collaborator Lawrence Kasdan. The result, like "Star Wars," was a huge hit,...

How Old Was Harrison Ford In Each Star Wars Movie Across The Franchise?
Image
All the way back in 1964, when Harrison Ford was just twenty-two years old, he moved to Los Angeles after doing summer stock theatre and signed a contract with Columbia Pictures' New Talent Program. Little did he know he would go on to become one of the most famous cinematic icons of all time. But that would take at least another decade.

Harrison Ford languished in bit parts and uncredited or minor television roles for many years before stepping away to work as a carpenter. In 1973, he landed his big break in "American Graffiti" at the age of 31. The small role was a glimpse into the charismatic star he would become. Ford brings a swagger and winning crooked smile to his brief appearance as the cocky drag racer Bob Falfa, who dares to challenge the reigning drag racing king, John Milner. These qualities would later be considered his trademark. "American Graffiti" was directed by George Lucas,...

After Harrison Ford's Final Indy Film Flopped, Indiana Jones Writer Solves How the Franchise Could Continue
Image
The Indiana Jones franchise debuted in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark, and featured five films. For the last release, 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Steven Spielberg didn't return to the directorial chair, and the film disappointed in theaters.

For his last Indy film, 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Spielberg reunited with frequent collaborator David Koepp, who wrote the script. The final entry had James Mangold at the helm, and Koepp co-wrote the script with Mangold, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote his latest film, Jurassic World Rebirth, Koepp solved how the Indiana Jones franchise could continue: as a streaming show.

The first four entries were massive commercial hits, but Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny flopped in theaters. Since its release, there have been no other plans to continue the franchise.

'He's Allergic to It' : What Steven Spielberg Wanted Jurassic World Rebirth to Avoid
Image
The Jurassic Park franchise is back and has a new installment out in theaters, Jurassic World Rebirth. Although it features a brand-new cast, it brings back the original screenwriter, David Koepp.

Koepp has collaborated with Steven Spielberg on multiple projects, aside from the dinosaur franchise. However, he's now back to the Jurassic franchise for a new era. Although Spielberg didn't direct the new entry, which had Gareth Edwards at the helm, the legendary filmmaker was a producer and was very involved in the project. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Koepp revealed the most important thing for Spielberg in Jurassic World Rebirth.

Speaking about his longtime collaboration with the director, Koepp explained Spielberg is still excited about finding something new for the franchise. "I’ve done 10 or 12 movies with Steven over the years, and I think his favorite part is making them up. The part where you say, 'Hey, do you...

'Indiana Jones' Writer Talks Continuing the Franchise on Streaming Amid Reboot Rumors
Image
One of the many writers who have participated in the Indiana Jones franchise has now addressed the possibility of continuing the journey of the archaeology professor and adventurer following recent rumors that a reboot is in the works. Screenwriter David Koepp is no stranger to the world of blockbuster IPs, and his latest movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, has shown signs of reviving the dinosaur franchise. Could the intrepid adventurer now get the same treatment?

Koepp is currently enjoying the recent release of Jurassic World Rebirth, his official return to the universe created by Steven Spielberg. The film solidly revives the spirit of the first two Jurassic Park movies, which isn't a coincidence considering Koepp wrote 1993's Jurassic Park and 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park. However, these are not the only Spielberg movies he has worked on. Koepp also wrote 2005's War of the Worlds and 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...

Image
Even after seeing footage from Steven Spielberg’s highly secretive upcoming sci-fi film, it remains difficult to get a clear sense of the project’s full story and direction.

It seems that was intentional, as the footage was reportedly carefully curated so that no plot details could be deduced.

Earlier this week, Spielberg attended a special event at Universal Pictures’ sprawling 84,000-square-foot facility known as The Commons. There, he officially unveiled a new screening room bearing his name, the Steven Spielberg Theater, a 250-seat cinema dedicated to his legacy.

To mark the occasion, Spielberg shared exclusive footage from the mysterious sci-fi movie, which reportedly involves UFOs. Fans and insiders have speculated wildly about the film’s nature, with theories ranging from an entirely original story to possible sequels of classics like E.T. or Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Their extensive collaboration includes five major feature films, with a highly anticipated sixth project now confirmed to be a mystery sci-fi film.

This impressive track record highlights their strong working relationship on large-scale, genre-defining projects.

Steven Spielberg's New Sci-Fi Movie With Jurassic World Rebirth Writer Gets Exciting Update
Image
Steven Spielberg's next directorial effort has crossed a major production hurdle. David Koepp, who has collaborated with Spielberg on several movies over the years, including this summer's Jurassic World Rebirth, was the one to give the exciting update.

Speaking with Deadline at Jurassic World Rebirth's world premiere, Koepp revealed that not only had Spielberg's upcoming science fiction movie wrapped filming, but that the untitled feature had been in the can since the end of May. "We finished shooting about three weeks ago. I think it looks fantastic," Koepp revealed. While the screenwriter refused to divulge any story details or reveal what the title of the movie would be, he did praise Spielberg for how he realized his script on camera. "Honestly, what he does so brilliantly is he combines a vast spectacle with really honest human emotion. Unlike I think any other director. It’s a very emotional experience this movie,...

Lilo & Stitch is the second Hollywood release of the year to cross the significant mark at the box office in North America. It has outpaced Moana 2 and A Minecraft Movie’s third-tuesday collections. The film has also registered one of the biggest third-Thursday collections among Memorial Day releases. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The film has been dominating the box office domestically since its release. However, it might get some competition from How to Train Your Dragon. The Disney live-action feature will lose its #1 rank this weekend in the domestic box office chart. It is already a blockbuster, amassing $800 million-plus worldwide against a price tag of $100 million.

One Of Harrison Ford's Shrinking Co-Stars Had A Horrible Indiana Jones Audition
Image
Bill Lawrence's "Shrinking" features an incredible band of actors, including their dream casting of Harrison Ford as the show's aging but sharp therapist, Dr. Paul Rhoades. In another time, however, Ford might have shared the screen with one of his co-stars much sooner in one of his most iconic films, if only the co-star in question hadn't been suffering from a rough morning due to the night before.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wendie Malick, who plays Paul's love interest on the show, Dr. Julie Baram, revealed that she once auditioned for a part in a then-upcoming adventure film being handled by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas called "Raiders of the Lost Ark." As Malick recalls, "I get this call: Steven Spielberg, who I don't think I knew who he was at that time, and this guy, George Lucas. They want you to come in to meet them.

Spielberg's Indiana Jones Movies Return To Paramount+ As Their Complicated Streaming History Continues
Image
The Indiana Jones franchise has returned to Paramount+, but the streaming history of the popular franchise remains very complicated. Paramount+ reacquired the Indiana Jones movies on June 1, but there is one film in the series that isn't there, so anyone wanting to watch every film in the franchise will have to find it on another streaming service.

On June 1, the first four Indiana Jones films moved to Paramount+, meaning that Harrison Ford's Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are all available on that streaming service for fans. However, the one notable exception is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Anyone who wants to see the fifth movie in the Indiana Jones franchise will have to head over to Disney+ to view it, as that film was not a Paramount movie,...

Raiders Of The Lost Ark's Thrilling Opening Was Shot On One Of Hawaii's Most Beautiful Islands

The word "iconic" gets thrown around a bit too much in regards to films. If anything could rightfully earn that moniker, though, it is Steven Spielberg's 1981 action/adventure classic "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Working with his friend and "Star Wars" director George Lucas, Spielberg crafted a cinematic icon like no other in the form of Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford in every single movie in the series to date. But it all started with "Raiders." More specifically, it all started with that unforgettable opening sequence.

The introduction of Ford's Indy in the film's opening, from his emergence from the jungle to being chased by that boulder, is cinema history. It's blockbuster filmmaking at its finest. There's a reason why "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is hailed as one of the greatest movies ever made. While that...

‘Lilo & Stitch’ Box Office Mayhem: All the Records Broken as Pic Zooms Past $400M Globally
Image
Talk about threading the needle perfectly.

A week ago, no one could have imagined that Disney’s live-action reimagining Lilo & Stitch would make box office history and open to a record-breaking $182.6 million during the four-day Memorial Day weekend, including $146 million for the three days. Overseas, the live-action redux of the 2002 animated film about a Hawaiian girl and mischievous, dog-like alien also exceeded all expectations in starting off with $178.6 million for a global start of $361.2 million against a net budget of $100 million.

The pic is adding another milestone to its list today as it crosses the $400 million mark globally, including $200 million domestically in its sixth day in release — more than the total lifetime runs of some live-action Disney reimaginings. It’s already out-grossed the entire $273.1 million global of run of 2002’s animated Lilo & Stitch, not adjusted for inflation. To boot, it’s pacing ahead of Warner Bros.’ blockbuster A Minecraft Movie,...

Disney's Live-Action 'Lilo & Stitch' Speeds Past 'Fast & Furious 6's Memorial Day Box Office Record

It was reported that the live-action feature surpassed 2013's Fast & Furious 6 Memorial Day record, as the Disney movie continues its theatrical release.

During the Memorial Day weekend, Lilo & Stitch generated $361.3 million, shattering Fast & Furious 6's record of $117 million worldwide. It also managed to beat Fast & Furious 6's domestic opening. The Disney movie made over $146 million during its opening, while the Justin Lin-directed action film made over $97 million. The 25 Highest-Grossing Memorial Day Box Office Openings of All Time
Image
Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and the box office is looking up after a grim 2024. Last year, “Mad Max” prequel “Furiosa” scored the lowest No. 1 Memorial Day weekend in nearly three decades, since 1998’s “Casper,” with an estimated $31 million take last year. Conversely, in 2025, Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” is earning a staggering $183 million to set a new box office record, unseating Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun: Maverick.”

For that reason, it feels like a good time to look back at the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend box office openings of all time, dating back to 1996. Now, it’s important to note these are Memorial Day weekend openings not Memorial Day weekend box office champions – “The Day After Tomorrow” pulled in over $85 million when it opened in 2004, but the top film at the box office for the holiday weekend was holdover “Shrek 2.”

Interestingly enough, the list is chock-full...

Memorial Day Weekend Box Office ( Photo Credit – Facebook )

The Memorial Day weekend of 2025 witnessed an extraordinary convergence of cinematic titans at the box office as Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning — making a triumphant return to its franchise’s roots — shared the release day with Lilo & Stitch from Disney — once again capitalizing on its same old properties through the concept of live-action remakes. The two movies soared to unprecedented heights, eventuating a juxtaposition that rendered the special day the most lucrative of its kind in cinema history.

This brings an opportunity to rewind through the cinematic giants that turned this long weekend into a revenue-rich tradition. After all, Cruise’s very first Mission: Impossible and its hyperkinetic sequel were both Memorial Day releases, and as was Top Gun: Maverick. The latter even took the highest Memorial Day weekend box office record from one of Disney’s own properties — Pirates of the Caribbean,...

These Two 'Shrinking' Stars Almost Worked Together in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'
Image
Harrison Ford and Wendie Malick are sharing the screen these days on Apple TV+'s Shrinking, but they could have been co-stars much earlier. Malick auditioned to play hard-drinking adventurer Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but a schedule change left her unprepared. She discussed the incident on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's podcast, Dinner's On Me, this week.

Director Steven Spielberg apparently saw the then-unknown actor in an Excedrin commercial, and had her come in to audition to play the female lead opposite Ford's Indiana Jones: "I get this call: Steven Spielberg, who I don't think I knew who he was at that time, and this guy, George Lucas. They want you to come in to meet them. It was Valentine's Day...we just talked, and they put me on film. We laughed and had a lovely time for, I don't know, like, 45 minutes or something."

Image
Steven Spielberg Reveals Alan Grant From Jurassic Park Was Offered To A Big Hollywood Star (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

Jurassic Park is one of those films in Steven Spielberg’s illustrious directorial filmography that will always stand out because of its intriguing subject, immaculate execution, and pathbreaking CGI. But did you know that a top Hollywood actor was once considered to play a major role in the film, but turned it down? Read on to know which popular Hollywood actor he was.

The Hollywood Actor Who Turned Down Spielberg’s Jurassic Park

It was none other than the iconic Hollywood actor Harrison Ford, who turned down an important role in Steven Spielberg’s cult film Jurassic Park. Harrison Ford was Steven Spielberg’s first choice for the role of Dr. Alan Grant. But as they say, every film has its destiny, and every character has an actor’s name stamped on it.

Steven Spielberg's Game-Changing Sci-Fi Movie Is Finding New Fans On Max
Image
Steven Spielberg is inarguably one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, but, being human (as far as we know), he is fallible. He's made one thoroughly lousy movie ("Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"), a strangely inert one ("The Bfg"), and must answer for the bizarre backlot debacle that is "Hook."

These misfires are rare for a director like Spielberg, who doesn't have to move forward on a project until he's good and ready. He's known for shooting quickly and confidently, intuitively placing the camera exactly where it needs to be, and delivering a finished film that is narratively concise and thematically rich. The only thing better than watching a Steven Spielberg movie for the first time is knowing that it's going to open up in new and surprising ways on subsequent viewings. There isn't a single filmmaker working today who can top Spielberg as a visual storyteller.

'Lilo & Stitch' Live-Action Remake Brings the DIsney Icon to Life for Surprised Theatergoers
Image
Should Experiment 626’s movie career not pan out, the lovable alien might have a career laid out for itself at AMC Theatres. A new promotional video (below) features Stitch from Disney’s upcoming Lilo & Stitch scanning online and paper tickets for theatergoers just as a real-life box office usher might. The engaging animatronic doll, which was seated in a director’s chair appropriately enough, bellowed with laughter at times and spoke a few words to each of those visiting the theater chain — and Stitch genuinely seemed to enjoy all the interactions with those who came out to see some movies.

Expectations are already out of this world for the remake of 2002’s animated Lilo & Stitch as the new film’s box office forecast predicts it could make $100+ million over the Memorial Day weekend (three-day) and possibly $120 million during the four-day holiday frame. However, that won’t be quite enough money...

We’re talking about actors who don’t just earn millions but tens of millions for a single role! These astronomical figures come through various arrangements—straight salaries, backend profit participation, box office bonuses, and merchandise royalties.

Harrison Ford Believes This 2002 Flop Is One Of His Most Underrated Movies
Image
Harrison Ford is 82 and has been enjoying somewhat of a renaissance of late. 2023 became the year of Ford giving a crap again after the early 2000s and 2010s seemed to be something of a slog for the veteran star. Not only did he appear to be going through the motions in a lot of his movies, he also became one of Hollywood's most notorious grumps, rivaling Ridley Scott for the most amusingly irascible man in the industry.

But that has changed in recent years. "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" might have been a massive flop, but none of that was down to Ford, who in stark contrast to his performance in 2008's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," seemed to truly care about delivering a heartfelt Indy portrayal. Ford also started pushing his boundaries with roles in "Yellowstone" spin-off "1923" and Apple TV+'s "Shrinking," both...

15 Terrible Movies By Great Directors
Image
If you're ever having a bad day or feeling like you're not good enough, remember that Steven Spielberg has made some pretty bad movies. That's not to disparage the Beard. He's an iconic director and a huge reason for Hollywood's astronomical success in the 1970s, '80s, and '90s. Indeed, he belongs on the Mount Rushmore of great filmmakers -- but he's far from perfect. Yes, even Steven freaking Spielberg is not immune from making a bad call now and again. Somehow, every time he seemingly hits a low point, like immediately after 1990's "Hook," he bounces back with a vengeance, namely the one-two punch of "Jurassic Park" and Best Picture winner "Schindler's List."

He's not the only one. James Cameron, Ron Howard, Peter Jackson, and George Lucas proudly stand atop this list of 15 great movie directors who made terrible films. As you keep reading, remember that we do...

The Incredible Box Office Feat Only Achieved By Sylvester Stallone & Harrison Ford
Image
Harrison Ford's first feature film was an uncredited role as a bellhop in the 1966 James Coburn crime thriller "Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round." He was 24. It's wild to think that Ford, when he was 80, also starred in the 2023 blockbuster "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," which was set in 1969. The elderly Indiana Jones, if he was a movie fan, could have seen the film debut of Harrison Ford.

Sylvester Stallone's first feature film came in 1969, when he was 23. He played an uncredited extra in a film called "The Square Root." Indeed, for the first three years of his career, Stallone mostly played uncredited roles, turning up in films like "What's Up, Doc?," "Bananas," and "Klute." Stallone doesn't have a career wraparound like Ford's above, but he was recently the subject of "Sly," a documentary about his career.

Both Stallone and Ford appeared in one film together: 2014's "The Expendables 3,...

Revenge of the Sith returns to theaters for the 25th anniversary
Image
Today, Lucasfilm announced the return of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith to the big screen on April 25 to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary. The film will run in U.S. theaters and select international territories for one week only and will be available in several formats, including, for the first time, 4Dx. 4Dx features high-tech motion chairs that sync with over 21 effects, all designed to complement the narrative of the film.

Renowned graphic artist Matt Ferguson created an exciting new poster for the re-release event.

Revenge of the Sith takes place years after the onset of the Clone Wars, when the noble Jedi Knights lead a massive clone army into a galaxy-wide battle against the Separatists. When the sinister Sith unveil a thousand-year-old plot to rule the galaxy, the Republic crumbles and from its ashes rises the evil Galactic Empire. Jedi Hero Anakin Skywalker is...

Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy is expected to exit the company by the end of 2025
Image
The end of an era will soon be upon us, as a report from Puck says Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy plans to retire before the end of the year. Kennedy joined Lucasfilm in 2012 as co-chair alongside Star Wars creative George Lucas. A few short months into her position, Lucasfilm sold to Disney for $4 billion, prompting Lucas to pack his bags and retire to Skywalker Ranch.

Kennedy made her mark at the studio by relaunching the Star Wars universe with J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While the film banked $2 billion globally, the reset was ill-received by many long-time franchise fans. Regardless of online bellyaching, Kennedy pressed onward with two more entries in the core series, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Kennedy took the Star Wars franchise in questionable directions, creatively and financially, throughout her tenure. She hired Chris Lord and Phil Miller...

Steven Spielberg’s New Film Moves to June 2026, Daniels’ ‘Everything Everywhere’ Follow-Up Removed From Calendar
Image
Universal is shifting around the release dates for two major 2026 films, one from Steven Spielberg and another from “Everything Everywhere All at Once” directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Spielberg’s next film will open on June 12 instead of May 15. It’s taking the place of the Daniels’ untitled movie, which was taken off the calendar for now.

Universal didn’t offer a reason for the shifts, though the film from the Daniels, as the Oscar winners are known professionally, appeared to be in a nascent stage without a script, title or cast ever being announced. The studio is expected to imminently announce a new date for their movie.

Spielberg’s project, which also doesn’t have a title or logline but has been vividly described as a “new original event film,” was relocated to add distance from two expected behemoths. The untitled film was previously scheduled to open two...

Universal Shifts Untitled Steven Spielberg Event Film Away from ‘Avengers’ and ‘Mandalorian’ Movies
Image
Universal is shifting its untitled Steven Spielberg event film away from “Avengers: Doomsday” and “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” and straight into the “Scary Movie” reboot’s territory. The untitled Spielberg movie was originally set for a May 15, 2026 theatrical release; the film will now wait nearly another month, releasing wide on Friday, June 12, 2026.

The shift is not all about Spielberg, IndieWire has learned. The June slot was previously occupied by another untiled Universal event film, that one directed by Daniels Kwan and Scheinert. The Daniels film is now undated, but a new release date will be announced shortly. It has a script, a person with knowledge of the situation told IndieWire, but needs a little more time. Internally, the Spielberg shift is being looked at as a win-win for both films.

It’s not like there is no competition set for Spielberg’s new date — it’s just now less of a crossover with potential movie-goers.

The '90s Indiana Jones Movies That Never Happened Would Have Been Better Than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Image
The original Indiana Jones trilogy that ran from 1981 to 1989 is without a doubt one of the most entertaining, well-written and greatly-executed works of cinema ever. With its incredible set pieces, direction, iconic sequences and brilliant Harrison Ford performance, the original trilogy effectively told a story like no other. In 2008, a fourth Indiana Jones movie was finally made called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas all involved once again. There was a lot of excitement around Indy's return even if the film itself didn't live up to expectations.

What some fans may not realize is that there were plans to continue the Indiana Jones series in the 1990s after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989. The planned sequels would have looked to continue Indy's story after the events of The Last Crusade and possibly explore other periods of...

Ke Huy Quan Says Harrison Ford Comforted Him on 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' Set
Image
Oscar winning actor Ke Huy Quan was discussing his favorite action scenes from his movies with EW while promoting his new film, Love Hurts. Quan reflected upon a moment between him and Harrison Ford before they filmed the famous mine cart scene in Steven Spielberg's classic film, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Only 12 years old during production, the actor said he was frightened of the intense scene and Harrison Ford took a moment to console him.

"When we shot this sequence, I was so scared. And I cried. I remember Harrison Ford kneeling down in front of me and asking me if I was okay. He said, and I'll never forget this, 'Ke, I want you to remember, I will never hurt you.' When he said that, oh my gosh, it just made me love him so much more. Here is Indiana Jones telling me...

'It Was Pretty Insane:' Ke Huy Quan Recalls His Indiana Jones Audition

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom introduced the world to Ke Huy Quan's Short Round, though he didn't intend to get the part.

Per People, Quan appeared on the Wtf With Marc Maron podcast ahead of his new film Love Hurts' release, where he discussed auditioning for the role that made him famous as a young boy. He originally attended the Temple of Doom audition with his brother. But after giving him some notes on the script, he was encouraged by the casting director to try out himself. This eventually led to Quan getting cast and meeting director Steven Spielberg, producer George Lucas, and co-star Harrison Ford, recalling the process as "pretty insane. And to think that only four years prior to that was when I came here as a refugee. We had nothing. We had been in a refugee camp. And all of a sudden, I find...

James Mangold views Swamp Thing as a standalone film
James Mangold in Logan (2017)
James Mangold is making Swamp Thing for Warner Bros and DC – but he’s insistent that the film will be standing alone.

While he might have a highly-touted Bob Dylan biopic releasing this week, director James Mangold has otherwise been engaged in a frenzy of franchise filmmaking of late. There was last year’s Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny and next up, he’ll be turning his attention to a Star Wars prequel film which is said to chart the formation of the Jedi Order.

After that, the filmmaker will be turning his attention to a Swamp Thing movie for Warner Bros that will add to the growing number of entries in the new DC Universe.

Mangold has been talking just a little about that Swamp Thing project which presumably is some years away from production, given that any given Star Wars film doesn’t exactly whizz through the Lucasfilm system these days.

Image

Disney Just Fixed a Big Indiana Jones Problem With Surprise Disney+ Update
Image
Last fall, fans of Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones movie series were left frustrated when all four of the films directed by Steven Spielberg were inexplicably removed from Disney+. In the months since, only Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was available to stream, but that frustrating problem has finally been rectified.

Per What's On Disney Plus, all four Spielberg-helmed films are now streaming again on the Disney+ platform. The reason for their temporary removal is that Paramount Pictures still holds the rights to those movies, and it would appear that the Disney+ streaming license has been renewed. This puts all five of the films starring Ford back together again on one platform, though it should be noted that the classic films are still not available yet on Disney+ internationally. It's also unclear how long this new streaming agreement will last, which may eventually lead to the movies...

Steven Spielberg is set to return to the science fiction genre for the first time since 2018's Ready Player One with The Dish, a new movie written by David Koepp. The screenwriter recently opened up about The Dish and why fans should look forward to the new Spielberg feature.

Koepp briefly touched on collaborating with Spielberg on his new movie, The Dish, while speaking with TheWrap about the 25th anniversary of his movie Stir of Echoes (which he wrote and directed). "I am so not allowed to say anything," Koepp said, joking that "I think deep down, it bothers Steven that I’ve read the script." The screenwriter also confirmed a recent production report stating that The Dish, which is the movie's working title, would begin production in February 2025, with principal photography scheduled to take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
