As part of a marketing campaign back in 2015 for its Louis Xiii cognac, Rémy Martin hired Robert Rodriguez to direct a series of commercials and short films. The focal point of the campaign is "100 Years," a short film that, according to Rémy Martin, will not be made available until 2115 -- 100 years after its production. Waiting for a movie release can be both exciting and frustrating. But what if a movie’s release date was so far away that no one alive today would ever get to see it?

100 Years, a film directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring John Malkovich, is set to release on November 18, 2115. This isn’t a prank or a lost film – although it could be reduced to a marketing gimmick. It’s a completed movie that’s been securely locked away in a high-tech, bulletproof vault. The vault is programmed to open automatically in 2115, making sure that no one can access it until its designated premiere date.

What is 100 Years about?...

Making a film often has the objective of showing it to people, but what if you make a movie that no one alive today is ever going to get to see? Whatever it may be, it’s still a banger of a marketing campaign, as was the case with 100 Years, a film made to promote Louis Xiii, a cognac that takes a century to make as well.

The film is directed by Robert Rodriguez of The Mandalorian fame. Made in 2015, the film is not set to be released until 2115, starring an international cast with the likes of John Malkovich, Shuya Chang, and Marko Zaror.

Hearing that an upcoming project will be an experimental film can oftentimes give pause to moviegoers. It might mean that the filmmakers have chosen to sacrifice quality in favor of attempting to revolutionize the format. Alternatively, the plot could be excessively convoluted, as the creatives behind the project are willing to overlook a coherent story to achieve their eccentric vision. However, other film fans get excited when they hear that a non-traditional movie is being attempted. The coming-of-age drama Boyhood, which was filmed over 12 years by Richard Linklater, comes to mind. Modern media has become increasingly formulaic, so experimental films can serve to throw a wrench in the system.

Whether you're a fan of this type of film or find it overly indulgent, there is one experimental picture that shouldn't be the cause of either concern or excitement. In all certainty, when it comes out, you won't even be around to see it.

In a tense crime story inspired by true events, Sister Tse travels from Taiwan to New York with the help of a human smuggler known as a “Snakehead”. Gaining favour with the matriarch of a crime family, she quickly rises through the ranks. Writer-director Evan Jackson Leong’s tale of a street-smart illegal immigrant who gets taken under the wing of a charismatic older gangster follows a well-worn plot beat-for-beat, right down to the inevitable montage in the midsection set to slinky pop. The kicker is that the apprentice and the master are women, exhibiting much the same unflinching ruthlessness you would find in a Martin Scorsese, Johnnie To or Park Chan-wook movie, but with a little less violence. But that doesn’t mean no violence: at one point, New York Chinatown kingpin Dai Mah (Jade Wu), a character based on a real female crime boss, slits a man’s throat with the effortless focus of a butcher slaughtering a pig, and barely gets a drop of blood on her dowdy polyester housecoat.

Originally planned for 2020 but pushed to 2021 due to the pandemic, “Snakehead” is a passion project based in New York’s Chinatown, and it’s worth taking note.

Participating at the Asian Contents & Film Market online, Australia-based Odin’s Eye Entertainment has announced sales deals on Evan Leong’s US crime thriller Snakehead to Japan (Happinet Phantom), Taiwan (Av-Jet), and India and worldwide airlines (Pictureworks).

Inspired by a true story, the film follows a woman called Sister Tse who is brought to New York by human smuggler Snakehead in order to search for her daughter. There, she manages to gain the favour of the matriarch of Chinatown’s most notorious gangland family, rising quickly through their ranks.

She lives a wealthy but ice-cold life and is a self-declared murderous psychopath. STXfilms has acquired the domestic rights to “Me You Madness,” the directorial debut of actress Louise Linton, who is also married to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

Linton also stars in the campy, comedy and thriller alongside “Gossip Girl” actor Ed Westwick, and the film will be made available through premium video on demand. STX is aiming for a mid-February 2021 debut.

Taking up the reins from Ang Lee, the sequel formerly known as The Green Legend is directed by Yuen Woo-Ping, the esteemed fight choreographer who served on the original film, and his flair for slick, physics-defying action sequences shines through in today’s first look teaser. Out of the cast that starred in the beloved original, only Michelle Yeoh’s Yu Shu-Lien returns for the direct-to-streaming sequel, who fights with every fibre in her being to prevent a legendary sword from falling into the grubby hands of a malevolent warlord.

Zoolander and My Big Fat Greek Wedding won’t be the only films from the early aughts getting a sequel early next year. The Weinstein Company recently went ahead with production on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, the sequel to Ang Lee‘s Oscar-winning 2000 film, albeit with no involvement from the director. Instead, it comes from Yuen Woo-ping, the accomplished choreographer behind The Matrix, and numerous Jackie Chan films.

The first trailer has now landed today, which comes from Netflix, where it’ll get a day-and-date release in early February, along with — on the other side of a spectrum — an IMAX run. As the synopsis reads, “The fight to keep a great warrior’s sword from an evil warlord will change them in ways they never imagined.”

As cinephiles, one can feel restless if you’re not seeking out new films, attempting to conquer the filmography of a director or perhaps finding under-the-radar gems that haven’t been canonized. Well, unless you’re a few years old reading this or you miraculously discover the Fountain of Youth, you’ll never complete the filmography of Robert Rodriguez.

The Sin City director recently collaborated with John Malkovich on a film titled 100 Years, which no one will see for the next century. Backed by Louis Xiii Cognac, the reason for the delayed release November 2115 is because the liquor itself is aged for 100 years. As for the film, it’s currently locked up in a vault in Cognac, France and no footage has made its way online, but we do have a featurette and a trio of teasers created separately, imaging what the future might look like when the film is unveiled.

Dragon Seed: Lau & Loo’s Dissatisfying NYC Chinese Gang Saga

Martin Scorsese appears as executive producer on Andrew Lau and Andrew Loo’s Revenge of the Green Dragons, which is no surprise considering he famously remade Lau’s 2002 film Infernal Affairs as The Departed (2006). Featuring a gritty period portrait of gangland warfare in New Your City, it’s clearly the sort of material that Scorsese seems to be attracted to, and thematically, one could even say there are influences of titles like Mean Streets (1973) or Goodfellas (1990) in the mix, with slight homages here and there. But the similiarites are only skin deep. This saga, which is actually based on fact, feels too zany and forthright, any realistic human elements crushed beneath its predilection for exaggerated, dramatic performances and hyperviolence.

The first trailer, poster and syopsis have been released for Revenge of the Green Dragons, the upcoming crime drama from directors Andrew Lau (Infernal Affairs) and Andrew Loo.

Martin Scorsese is serving as executive producer on the movie, something which isn’t a huge surprise in some ways as it was The Wolf of Wall Street director who helmed a remake of Infernal Affairs with 2006′s The Departed.

Revenge of the Green Dragons focuses on two immigrant brothers who join a Chinatown gang known as “The Green Dragons” in order to survive the poverty of 1980s New York. It’s based on a true story, and interestingly it appears as if the concept of the American Dream will form the movie’s backdrop.

A24 Films and DirecTV have released the first trailer and poster for Revenge of the Green Dragons, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. DirecTV subscribers will get to see the action-thriller first, with an exclusive 30-day window starting September 11, with a theatrical release in October to follow from A24 Films. Ray Liotta, Justin Chon (Twilight), and Harry Shum, Jr. (Glee) star in the 1990s NYC-set action crime drama that’s executive produced by Martin Scorsese and set to debut next month at the Toronto Film Festival. Revenge of the Green Dragons is helmed by Andrew Lau & Andrew Loo and was inspired by Frederick Dannen’s New Yorker article chronicling Asian-American gang life in Queens, NY. The Toronto International Film Festival announced more selections Tuesday for the upcoming 2014 edition of the annual awards season kick-off. The majority of the festival's program was announced last month, but this group includes intriguing world premieres from notable directors such as Todd McCarthy ("The Cobbler") and Gina Prince-Bythewood ("Beyond the Lights"). A number of the titles revealed have screened at other festivals including the underrated "Infinitely Polar Bear" and "Laggies" from Sundance as well as Cannes players "Two Days, One Night," "The Search" and "Clouds of Sils Maria." The 2014 Toronto Film Festival, which begins Sept. 4, added seven Galas and 17 Special Presentations to its lineup, including a semi-serious Adam Sandler project from Tom McCarthy, the director of The Station Agent and The Visitor. In The Cobbler, Sandler plays a man who has the unique ability to walk in his customers’ shoes. The movie features Dustin Hoffman, who also stars in Boychoir, François Girard’s tale of an orphan’s steep learning curve at a prestigious music school. In Welcome to Me, Kristen Wiig plays a mentally unstable woman who wins the lottery and decides to sink her winnings into a talk show.

Expect to see a bevy of stars on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. Today, more Gala and Special Presentation titles were announced, with some star-studded projects in the mix. Now, Escobar: Paradise Lost, starring Benicio del Toro as the infamous drug lord, will have its world premiere at Tiff, as will The Forger, with John Travolta, Christopher Plummer and Tye Sheridan.
