Everyone, get out your swords and sandals because we're heading back to the arena! Starz has just announced that it is currently developing a new "Spartacus" series! Forgive the excessive use of exclamation points, but I loved every minute of this show from the first moment to the last, including the prequel "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena."
The first season of the series was entitled "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and debuted in 2010. Before the second season, star Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leading to the prequel to give him time to recover. Sadly, he passed away, and the role was recast with Liam McIntyre for season 2, "Spartacus: Vengeance" and season 3, "Spartacus: War of the Damned."
The show was, as our title says, very sexy. Still, it was also a compelling drama about the titular Thracian gladiator who led a revolt of enslaved people against the Roman empire.

The Little Death and the Turkey Shoot reboot had multi-platform launches in the Us last Friday, drawing mostly positive reviews from critics. Magnolia Pictures released Josh Lawson.s sex comedy while EntertainmentOne is distributing Jon Hewitt.s Turkey Shoot remake, retitled Elimination Game. The Toronto Star.s Bruce DeMara opined, .Part comedy, part cautionary tale, The Little Death is above all entertaining and original. The title references la petite mort, the euphemistic French term for orgasm and there.s plenty of that. But Lawson.s feature film debut is much more, darkly funny, occasionally poignant and teeming with the unexpected..
The Los Angeles Times. Gary Goldstein described the film as .alternately silly and provocative, strained and funny..
National Public Radio.s Ella Taylor responded to the .winning humanity [that] seeps through the high jinks,. observing, .Lawson comes not to judge, but to assess the unintended consequences of sexual free play. He gooses prudery and political correctness,...

Did you know that Brian Trenchard-Smith's classic Ozploitation film, Turkey Shoot, has been remade into a modern action film starring Dominic Purcell (Killer Elite, Prison Break), Viva Bianca (Spartacus) and Robert Taylor? Me neither.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Season 1: Episode 5 – “Shadow Games”
Written by Miranda Kwok
Directed by Michael Hurst
Originally aired February 19th, 2010
Just two episodes ago, Spartacus took the time to establish what makes a legend of the arena. And while the series is not defined by any one ideal, the role of glory has certainly played a huge role thus far. When Spartacus sits with Crixus shortly before their battle with Theokoles, The Shadow of Death, Crixus is right to point out that Theokoles would bother to return to the arena for another shot at glory. Money doesn’t matter to a real gladiator; being the best and being recognized for that are the greatest rewards one can be given. It’s what Crixus strives for, as well. Knowing Spartacus’ back-story, we might think that fighting for some higher purpose, whether that be love or another thing, could be more noble.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Season 1: Episode 1 – “The Red Serpent”
Written by Steven S. DeKnight
Directed by Rick Jacobson
Originally aired January 22nd, 2010 on Starz
A Short Introduction
Five years ago, Starz premiered Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The series was originally written off by most viewers and critics as being gratuitous, lacking quality storytelling and employing a juvenile aesthetic (or a borrowed one, in the case of the 300 comparisons). During its run on Starz, Spartacus garnered a respectable viewership by the network’s standards, but the number of people who went back to re-evaluate the series and see what was actually there was simply too small in the end. Fast forward to now. Netflix has released the entirety of Spartacus (which features three full-length seasons and a prequel mini-series, all with different subtitles), and subscribers to the streaming service now have a chance to take part in one of television...

Though Jon Hewitt.s latest project, Turkey Shoot, was released theatrically last week; Australian cinemas is not where the writer/director is hoping his film will find its primary audience.
In a movement being echoed around the industry, Hewitt is pinning his hopes on VoD returns, with a focus on international sales in particular.
.Theatrical [release] is over for about 90 per cent of any film made anywhere in the world,. he tells If. .You just have to look at what.s released in cinemas now to understand that, but we are still compelled and forced to release every Australian film that gets made to give it a theatrical release, because of the way things are financed.
.So that.s led to a lot of negativity because there.s a lot of movies that just won.t work theatrically. Theatrical is whole different thing now, it.s about tent-pole movies and blockbusters...

After focussing on TV dramas, David Caesar plans to direct a conspiracy thriller, his first feature since Prime Mover in 2009.
Scripted by Terence Hammond and produced by Antony I. Ginnane, Spontaneous Combustion is set during a pandemic involving government and Big Pharma.
The plan is to start shooting in Melbourne in the first quarter of 2015, with post production and VFX in Queensland. The logline reads, "When a marine biologist who saw his father burst into flames for no reason is drawn into investigating an outbreak of spontaneous combustion deaths by an investigative journalist, they uncover a Big Pharma conspiracy and put their own lives on the line in a race to stop the development of a deadly global weapon."
.David is harking back to his Dirty Deeds milieu here, and he.s a big fan of The Parallax View, Three Days of the Condor and The Conversation, which is the zone we are in here,...

If I learned anything from Red Clover, it’s that Billy Zane and leprechaun movies don’t mix – yet I still gave Scored the good old college try. “But Matt, does that mean there are evil leprechauns in Scorned?!” No random commenter, even though a monster leprechaun might have presented Something interesting, but Scorned is written and directed by Leprechaun helmer Mark Jones – what could go wrong, right?! I know, I’m softening you up for the surprising fact that Scorned is quite possibly one of the most boring, uninspired, and poorly imagined thrillers of the year – and if you think I’ve already used the world “scorned” too many times, I dare you to drink every time Scorned references its own title – knowingly. Actually, I recommend you play that drinking game, because being blackout drunk may be the best way to watch Jones’ latest. Hell, the same rules might even help my own review.

Check out a pair of trailers for director Mark Jones’s thriller “Scorned”, starring the girl from that CW TV show, who plays a totally crazy chick, and the other girl from the Starz TV show, who pays her victim. Plus, Billy Zane of “Titanic” fame is in this one, too. The first trailer is for everyone, and features just a little bit of skin. The second trailer is labeled a Red Band, and featured just a little bit more skin, along with some violence, including the possibility of a dog frying in a microwave. Now that’s just cruel. Sadie (AnnaLynne McCord) and Kevin (Billy Zane) have decided to spend a romantic weekend together at his lake house. But when an unexpected – and unfortunate – text from her best friend Jennifer (Viva Bianca) to Kevin reveals a lurid love affair between the two, Sadie spirals into a hunger for revenge that is without mercy.

This may turn out to be a premature and fanciful call but 2014 is shaping as potentially one of the strongest years for Australian films, commercially and critically, in recent memory.
There are numerous grounds for optimism, starting with the overwhelmingly positive responses and, in some cases, deals for Tracks, The Railway Man, Wolf Creek 2, Felony and Canopy after their world premieres at either the Toronto or Venice film festivals.
Given the talent attached, the slate of films now shooting or in post-production looks highly promising, including Kill Me Three Times, The Rover, Son of a Gun, I, Frankenstein, Predestination, Charlie.s Country, Fell and Now Add Honey.
Added to that are several films from experienced filmmakers that are due to roll soon: Cut Snake, The Dressmaker and Paper Planes.
Industry figures whom If consulted are bullish about the prospects for the year ahead. There is a .very good reason for such optimism,...
