‘SNL50’ EP Morgan Neville On More Cowbell And How ‘Saturday Night Live’ Nearly Met Its Demise
Image
Saturday Night Live, born October 11, 1975, died May 24, 1986.

That could have been the obituary for the late-night comedy institution, which nearly bit the dust after season 11, depriving America of all the SNL talents who came in later years like Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Tina Fey, Kate McKinnon, Adam Sandler, Jimmy Fallon and so many more.

Saturday Night Live’s near demise is the focus of one of the four episodes of the Emmy-nominated series SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, executive produced by Oscar winner Morgan Neville. Kevin Nealon serves as a kind of Rod Serling-like host of the episode, explaining how the show’s “weird year” marked Lorne Michaels’ return to SNL after a five-year hiatus. Michaels came in with a whole new cast.

The ‘SNL’ season 11 cast: only Nora Dunn (far left) and Jon Lovitz (far right) would survive NBC

“You had Randy Quaid, Joan Cusack, Robert Downey Jr. You had Anthony Michael Hall,...

Image
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Kate Hudson (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) to the starting lineup of Running Point, the new comedy from Mindy Kaling (Never Have I Ever). After premiering Feb. 27 on Netflix, the series has already been renewed for a second season.

Running Point stars Hudson as Isla Gordon, a Los Angeles executive who is unexpectedly appointed head of the family business — which happens to be one of the most famous professional basketball franchises in the country — when her older brother publicly flames out and appoints her the new owner.

The Golden Globe winner and Academy Award–nominated actor is also an executive producer of the sitcom. Joining Hudson in the comedy are Scott MacArthur and Drew Tarver as Isla’s brothers, Max Greenfield as her fiancé, Brenda Song as a high-level team staffer, and more familiar faces on and off the court.

Running Point season 2 gets the exciting update we've been waiting for
Image
It's been an incredible year for new Netflix shows, and it's not even over yet! There have been so many great hits this year, including Adolescence, Ransom Canyon, Untamed, and the hilarious comedy series Running Point. The series from Mindy Kaling and starring Kate Hudson was an immediate hit, quickly earning a renewal for season 2 one week after its February premiere.

While we knew that Kaling and fellow co-creators and executive producers Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen were back in the writers' room crafting the stories for Running Point season 2, we hadn't yet heard the exciting news about cameras beginning to roll. Well, Netflix has now shared the update we have been waiting for. The new season is now in production in Los Angeles!

On Aug. 15, Netflix shared the update on social media along with a selfie taken by Hudson with fellow cast members Brenda Song, Justin Theroux, Scott MacArthur,...

Can Ike Barinholtz Make Elon Musk Likable?
Image
“I’m in San Francisco,” Ike Barinholtz says via Zoom from his hotel room, then spins his laptop around to prove it. “See? There’s Alcatraz.” It’s now official, though paparazzi photos have all but confirmed it: Barinholtz is in town filming Artificial, Luca Guadagnino’s fact-based account of the behind-the-scenes turmoil that saw OpenAI CEO Sam Altman fired and quickly rehired in 2023. Andrew Garfield plays Altman in the film. And Barinholtz? He’s Elon Musk. No big deal — just the richest, most recognizable, most controversial dude on the planet.

That casting coup caps a watershed year for the 48-year-old Chicago native, still buzzing from having pulled off one of the funniest and most talked about roles of his career: Sal Saperstein on Apple TV+’s uproarious Hollywood send-up The Studio. The foulmouthed movie exec earned Barinholtz his first Emmy nomination, one of 23 for the hit series. Off camera,...

Charlie Hall Cast In Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monster’ Anthology Series About Ed Gein
Image
Exclusive: Charlie Hall has joined the recurring cast of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s upcoming new season of Netflix’s “Monster” anthology series, which centers on murderer and suspected serial killer Ed Gein, played by Charlie Hunnam.

Known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, Gein confessed to murdering two women in the 1950s and also allegedly made trophies out of bodies and skin of corpses he exhumed from graveyards. He is suspected of having been responsible for the deaths of others, including his brother Henry, but the authorities were unable to connect him definitively to any of the cases.

Gein’s story inspired the Leatherface character in Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and largely inspired Robert Bloch’s novel Psycho, which was later adapted to film with Alfred Hitchcock directing. He...

Meghan Markle Releases Cringey New Trailer For Season Two Of “With Love, Meghan” As Netflix Continues To Scrape The Bottom Of The Barrel With The Sussexes
Image
Meghan Markle has released her new trailer for season two of “With Love, Meghan.” It should come as no surprise that it looks every bit as bland, fake, and cringeworthy as the first season.

Meghan’s Trailer Of “With Love, Meghan,” Includes Her Usual Vapid Word Salad

While Netflix has certainly loosened its ties with the Sussexes, they continue on with the s**t show that is Prince Harry and Meghan.

In the one-minute twenty-seven-second trailer, fans see the Duchess of Sussex eating cheese. She prepares food and snacks. She also shares with the audience the foods that Harry doesn’t like. Yawn.

“Do you know that my husband doesn’t like lobster?”

She asks.

“My husband,” she says as she’s cooking a seafood meal. The celeb chef she’s speaking to responds, “

And you married him anyway?”

As the trailer comes to an end, Meghan uses her usual...

Netflix’s ‘With Love, Meghan’ Season 2 Trailer Shows a Humbler Meghan Markle
Image
Meet Netflix’s Meghan 2.0.

The first trailer for the second season of With Love, Meghan returns the Duchess of Sussex to the kitchen and garden for another round of aspirational cozy cooking along with a bevy of friends (famous friends, naturally).

This time, however, the trailer portrays Meghan a bit differently than in the trailer for the first season — where Markle was shown expertly whipping up stunning creations while giving advice (“that’s what you want, you want that shape and texture…”) while enamored celebrities looked on (“This is probably one of the most glamorous moments of my life,” enthused Mindy Kaling).

Season two’s trailer (below) shows Meghan learning from experts and warmly appreciating the efforts of others. “Let’s get creative and learn something new,” she says, and then later: “I’m so glad you came and showed me how to do this.” In another beat, when mixing ingredients,...

Freakier Friday Borrows One Of Netflix's Best Rom-Com Stars For A Fun Supporting Role
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Freakier Friday."

While rom-coms have been enjoying a remarkable resurgence on streaming lately, they've only barely started returning to theaters after years of being seemingly banished to your living room only. It's about time, too; whether you need a break from the outside world or to decompress from the swirling thoughts in your head, nothing scratches that good itch quite like a rom-com. Indeed, "Freakier Friday" even features an up-and-coming Netflix rom-com star, and the results are as good as you would hope. In fact, you may even hear a murmur of surprise during your screening of the film when Maitreyi Ramakrishnan glides into frame.

For those who are not familiar, Ramakrishnan is the star of Netflix's small screen phenomenon, "Never Have I Ever." Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher's rom-com drama series, which ran for four seasons and is loosely based on Kaling's life...

The question burning in every Office fan’s mind just got a lot more interesting. Will John Krasinski reprise his role as Jim Halpert in The Paper, Greg Daniels’ upcoming Peacock spinoff? Recent developments suggest the answer might be a resounding yes.

The trailer has already confirmed the return of Oscar Martinez (played by Oscar Nuñez), sparking a wave of speculation among fans, if Oscar is back, who else might make an appearance? Done! If they ask me, I’m in.

This small statement matters more to fans than one might think. As they’ll finally get some closure, those tiny updates that reassure viewers their favorite characters are still out there, doing exactly what we always imagined. Part of the magic of The Office was how real these people felt.

Reneé Rapp Plays Coy About Reason For ‘Sex Lives of College Girls’ Exit: “Sometimes You Just Know”
Image
She’s signed a hundred NDAs, but Reneé Rapp still says something when asked about her departure from HBO Max‘s The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Although the Bite Me artist didn’t get into specifics about the reason for her 2023 exit from the Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble comedy-drama, she explained that she didn’t “think anybody cared” she left.

“It was just so fun. Like, it was so fun. It was awesome,” she said when broaching the topic on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “It was just so fun.”

“Did you sign an NDA?” asked host Alex Cooper, to which Rapp confirmed, “I’ve signed many, bro.”

She recalled that the cast and crew took it “totally fine” when she announced her departure.

“Sometimes you just know,” explained Rapp. “Also, nothing on a set is ever a secret. At least, it’s really hard to do that.

Image
Ever since Emily Cooper bravely started a new beginning in Rome at the end of Emily in Paris season 4, we have been waiting impatiently to see how her next act will play out. She ended the season happily in a relationship with Marcello and taking on an important new position at work in Italy, leaving Paris — and Gabriel — in the past. Well, temporarily at least.

When Emily in Paris season 5 began filming earlier this spring, we have been steadily learning more details about the upcoming episodes, including who will be joining the cast. Camille Razat left the series after four seasons, but Lucien Laviscount will be back as Alfie full time this time around. Additionally, Minnie Driver and Bryan Greenberg will appear as guest stars.

Thankfully, production on Emily in Paris season 5 is starting to wind down and expected to fully wrap in mid-August, but we've finally caught word from...

Kenan Thompson, Allison Janney Top Las Culturistas Culture Awards
Kenan Thompson
Kenan Thompson and Allison Janney received the evening’s highest recognitions—Titan of Culture and Lifetime of Culture—at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, taped July 17 at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre and set for a two-hour Bravo premiere on August 5, with next-day streaming on Peacock. Hosted by podcast duo Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, the irreverent ceremony drew a capacity crowd for its first televised outing after three years as a live parody event.

Thompson accepted his trophy to a standing ovation after a montage tracing his three decades on “Saturday Night Live” and Nickelodeon; Janney followed, joking that her award justified her viral “no-pants” red-carpet look from earlier in the week. The show’s 25 cheeky categories ranged from “Best Vibe, Hands Down” to the “Moon Award for Shining Brightly,” embracing the podcast’s long-running credo that every pop-culture footnote deserves a moment of glory.

Chasing Gen Z: Why Prime Video Is Loving YA After the Genre’s Collapse on Linear TV
Image
It’s been nearly two decades since soapy teen shows like “Gossip Girl,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “One Tree Hill” reigned on the CW and Freeform, but on Amazon’s Prime Video this summer, it’s 2007 all over again. While linear TV has largely abandoned the young adult genre, Prime Video is leaning into it in an attempt to woo Gen Z and millennials with bestseller adaptations and teen drama galore.

It all starts with Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Prime Video’s crown jewel of YA (young adult) programming and streaming hit that’s wrapping up its third and final season this fall. Hoping to grab the baton are “We Were Liars” from “Vampire Diaries” creator Julie Plec and “Overcompensating” from social media comedian-turned-tv writer Benito Skinner, as well as a slew of upcoming TV adaptations of buzzy novels “Fourth Wing,” “Off Campus” and YA series...

Craving more messy romance after 'Too Much'? Start here
Image
If you’re still not over Lena Dunham’s latest, these picks will ease the heartbreak.

Rom-coms are my go-to genre — always have been. There’s just something about falling in love with a show at the same time the characters are falling for each other. And when it ends? Total heartbreak. That’s the vibe with “Too Much,” Lena Dunham’s new series about a heartbroken American and a low-key London musician who find themselves tangled in a love story neither of them planned for. It’s quiet, honest, and a little awkward (in the best way), with the kind of emotional pull that sneaks up on you. So if that ending left you feeling adrift, here are a few more shows that might just fill the gap and get you back in love.

Too Much July 10, 2025

Julia Butters Takes on the A-List — Again
Image
When Julia Butters landed her first big role — a scene-stealing turn opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — she wasn’t even allowed to watch the whole movie. Her parents let her walk the red carpet at the premiere but whisked her out of the theater long before the flamethrowers came out. “They didn’t want to traumatize a 9-year-old,” she says. “But that carpet was insane — I mean, girl, Britney Spears was there — and I have yet to top that.”

Age appropriateness isn’t a problem in Butters’ latest project. The actress, now 16, stars in Freakier Friday, Disney’s long-awaited sequel to the 2003 body-swap comedy. In this updated and slightly more convoluted version, Lindsay Lohan’s character, Anna, is now a mom herself — and it’s her teenage daughter, Harper, played by Butters, who ends up switching bodies with her. Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Tess,...

Meghan Markle’s Netflix Deal: Her Financial Struggle if She Loses Her $100 Million Deal
Image
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s multi-year deal with Netflix will expire this fall, and it looks like it won’t be getting renewed. The couple had signed a $100 million contract with the streaming giant in 2020. As per The Sun‘s report, “There is no animosity from either side. Things have just run their course.”

As the contract nears its end, the ‘Suits’ star is reportedly grasping at straws, trying to find the next project that will be perfect for her. According to an insider who confided in Rob Shutter (via Substack), Markle is “Terrified of fading into irrelevance.”

To add to it, Markle would even accept a seat at the table over at ‘The View,’ the insider claims. In their words, “At this point, she’d take a hot topics seat next to Whoopi Goldberg if they let her.” The source continues that Markle is in desperate need of...

Steve Carell’s 85% Rated Movie Saved The Greatest Sitcom that Almost Got Canceled
Image
The 40-Year-Old Virgin didn’t just launch Steve Carell into mainstream, but it also saved The Office from getting cancelled after just six episodes. That’s right! One of TV’s greatest sitcoms almost did not survive its first season, and it took a summer blockbuster, with an 85% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a bold gamble to keep it alive.

The show premiered in 2005 and featured Greg Daniels’ American take on the UK mockumentary, originally created by Ricky Gervais. Early ratings were lukewarm, and NBC reportedly considered ending The Office. But then it became a cultural juggernaut, with its mix of perfect characters, great writing, and a second wave of popularity after hitting Netflix in 2011.

How The 40-Year-Old Virgin’s Momentum Saved The Office From Cancellation Steve Carell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin | Credits: Universal Pictures

If you miss 'Stick,' these sports comedies will fill the gap
Image
These shows aren’t just about winning games — they’re about finding yourself along the way.

“Stick” closed out its first season on Wednesday, July 23, and yeah… I’m already wishing for more time on those lush fairways and chaotic campgrounds. What makes the show work isn’t just how funny it is or how perfectly Owen Wilson plays a washed-up golf pro trying to coach a teenage phenom. It’s the heart underneath — a man still reeling from a personal tragedy, desperate to find something that gives his life meaning again. That’s what makes it stick (pun intended). And it’s the same thing that makes the best sports comedies so good: they’re about people first, sports second. So if you’ve finished “Stick” and need another binge with laughs, heart, and a little redemption mixed in, I’ve got you covered. Here’s what to watch...

Meghan Markle’s Netflix Show, “With Love, Meghan,” Debuts At A Humiliating Number 383 On 2025 Netflix List
Image
Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” debuted at a humiliating 383 on the first half of the 2025 Netflix list. It failed to make the top ten programs as the Duchess of Sussex suffers another massive flop.

“With Love, Meghan.” Only Had 5.3 Million Viewers Across The Globe

“With Love, Meghan” shows Meghan hosting, cooking, and gardening. Her series had only 5.3 million viewers worldwide since it was first broadcast in March.

That said, Meghan, who played in the legal drama, “Suits,” is far more popular on the streaming giant than “With Love, Meghan.”

Even older shows like “Young Sheldon” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” are outperforming Meghan’s show. People enjoy older shows more.

Even Netflix series that have been viewed a thousand times by fans, like “Ozark” and “Orange is the New Black,” are watched more often than “With Love, Meghan.”

Meghan’s show was evidently a “hate-watch.” It performed well at first,...

Meghan Markle’s Father Thomas Celebrates 81st Birthday As We Look Back At His Infamous Comments About The Duchess Of Sussex
Image
Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, celebrates his 81st birthday today on July 18th. Meghan and her father have spent years apart.

Thomas Has Repeatedly Gone Public With Comments About Meghan

Meghan’s father was an accomplished Hollywood hand who worked on shows such as Married with Children and General Hospital.

He won two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Direction For A Drama Series. He also worked on the 1984 Summer Olympics. Thomas and Meghan’s mother, Doria, divorced when she was only two years old.

Thomas’s actions in the weeks leading up to Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding prompted Meghan’s groom to claim that her father caused “chaos” in the days leading up to the wedding.

Harry and Meghan learned that Thomas had staged a candid photoshoot working with the paparazzi. His behavior blindsided the royal family, leaving Meghan disillusioned and embarrassed.

In a 2018 interview with The Sun,...

Chet Hanks: Exclusive pictures, character study, first-look images
Image
It’s impossible to imagine anyone but Chet Hanks playing Travis Bugg, the unruly Los Angeles Waves point guard in the new Mindy Kaling comedy Running Point. “Chet Hanks gave us such an amazing audition that we were just like, ‘Ok, it has to be him,’ ” co-creator Ike Barinholtz told Netflix.

Hanks steals the show as Travis, part-time rapper and full-time headache for party girl-turned-Waves president Isla Gordon, played by Kate Hudson. Over the 10 episodes, Travis is often recalcitrant, sometimes vulnerable, and always sidesplittingly hilarious. In Hanks’ hands, the character isn’t a one-dimensional caricature but instead the wayward heart of the show. “I loved working with Chet,” Hudson told Netflix. “I have to say, he’s so good in this. I think people are going to be really pleasantly surprised and enjoy what he’s doing with his character.”

With Running Point, Hanks got the chance to act...

The Real Reason Why Meghan Markle’s Brand As Ever Is A Failure
Image
Meghan Markle is currently under scrutiny regarding her brand, As Ever. She was dubbed the “laziest creator” by Royal Commentator Brittany, who has the fabulous YouTube channel Royal News Network.

Meghan Lacks A True Vision For Her Brand

Meghan lacks a true vision for her brand. There is no separation between Meghan Markle and her brand, As Ever. The only reason people are purchasing products from her brand is because of Meghan.

It may inflate Meghan’s ego, but it doesn’t make for a good business strategy. A good business investor won’t buy a company if it is doomed to fold if the creator walks away.

In the case of many successful companies, people don’t even know who the founder is. Meghan made the mistake of associating herself so closely with her brand that the brand rests solely on Meghan’s identity.

Good companies can exist without the brand creator.

“I’m Jealous of Every Show I Watch”: Brett Goldstein, Mindy Kaling and the Producers Roundtable
Image
John Wells was in the middle of his explanation about why he doesn’t envy other writers’ work when Tracey Wigfield began to laugh. “John,” she said, stopping him. “I’m jealous of every show I watch.”

Mindy Kaling fell somewhere in the middle. “When I watch TV, I just want it to be good,” she said. “I think when jealousy comes in is when something you think is not that good is getting a lot of praise. Why are they saying that’s so good? It’s just Ok!”

Praise is one thing everybody on THR‘s Producers Emmy Roundtable had in common. The live event, held May 28 at Soho House West Hollywood, gathered the minds behind (and, in some instances, faces in front of) the most critically acclaimed comedies and dramas of the past year. Joining Kaling (Running Point), Wells (The Pitt) and Wigfield (The Four Seasons), were...

Meghan Markle To Expand Her Business Portfolio By Making This ‘As Ever’ Application
Image
Critics may be seeing failures, blockades and setbacks, but Meghan Markle is evidently seeing each failed project as a chance to dream even bigger.

Meghan Markle Extends Her As Ever Trademark To Cover Hospitality Services

According to new reports, Meghan Markle is reportedly looking to branch into hotels and restaurants.

Delaney Rowe Breaks Silence on B.J. Novak Relationship: It’s Complicated!

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Over the past year, Delaney Rowe has made a name for herself across Instagram and TikTok.

Her video content — in which she usually lampoons tropes and stock characters from TV or movies, a la “insufferable best friend of the lead in a romcom” — has earned her a massive following and the attention of some mainstream celebs.

And it seems that one of those famous faces has taken an interest in Delaney that goes beyond her comedic talents.

Mindy Kaling Explains Why She’s Been Staying Behind the Camera
Image
After making a name for herself as a writer and star of The Office and the creator and lead of The Mindy Project, Mindy Kaling took a step back from the spotlight. She has had some acting roles since, but she has stuck mostly to producing work, having co-created the TV shows Champions, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Never Have I Ever, The Sex Lives of College Girls and Running Point. In fact, her most recent onscreen role came in 2023. But Kaling knows a more substantial return to acting is overdue. “Never Have I Ever, a show literally about an Indian American family in Southern California, and if I wasn’t on that — what’s wrong with me?” Kaling said during a Paley Media Council Series conversation last week, per The Hollywood Reporter. Kaling explained that she’s been a bit camera shy because her producing ventures have panned out well.
