Working for Director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Avalon) as Line Producer / Production Manager on The Last Druid - Garm Wars was a huge initiative. With a combined Canadian / Japanese crew, Oshii-San was able to achieve what is anticipated to be his greatest film. The challenge was creating a Japanese Anime experience in Live Action form for Japan's largest Animation producer, I.G Entertainment. Kathy focused on the Visual Effects team, coordinating the multiple department needs to help deliver the director's creative vision. She immediately hired the key artists for the production of the hundred plus custom costumes, wigs and masks built to precise Japanese standard. Kathy delivered creative production solutions while coordinating complex filming sequences serving four studios and sixteen sets. It was an incredible experience to work with Atsuki Sato, Japan's world famous VFX Supervisor, and 2013 Emmy nominee Geoff Scott of Intelligent Creatures. An Oshii retrospective on his films will be honored at TIFF 2014.
Since 2007, Kathy has been developing Co-production packages for international films with Canada, working with Martin Paul-Hus of Amerique Film. Productions have included The Kind Words (Israel-Canada); STAY (Ireland-Canada); Restless (Israel-France-Canada); and Buddha's Little Finger (Germany-Canada). Kathy delivers budgets and preliminary Canadian tax credit breakdowns for these features and television series.
Kathy was engaged by Paramount Pictures as Second Unit Production Supervisor for The Sum of All Fears. Her Action Unit delivered: mechanical special effects, body double stunts, explosives, fire, car stunts, feral dogs, aerial units for helicopters, Lear jets, a 747, water units as well as Visual Effects. Her "Bombing of The Superbowl" First and Second Units, created the climatic end sequence. This complex and costly sequence required managing a 75 man stunt crew, hiring two professional football teams, and delivering 10,000 screaming fans for two free hot dogs and a coca-cola.
Student Bodies was ground breaking television in the late '90's, combining a live cast and their animated alter egos. This award winning series ran on 20th Television Fox / YTV for three successful years and can still be seen in reruns. As Line Producer, Kathy supervised the transformation of a school into a 3-camera, fully wired, two-floor television studio. She effectively lowered the spend, week after week, across 52 episodes.
On Roland Joffé's (The Mission, The Killing Fields) production of the hit show Undressed for MTV, Kathy's position as Line Producer had her responsible for over 100 crew and 200 cast members in producing 36 episodes in 52 days, 12 pages a day. She managed this multi-stage production, from within a warehouse, with her usual upbeat approach. This sixth season achieved the highest ratings and at its lowest cost.
Broadway to the Big Screen: Turning Terrence McNally's Broadway hit play Love! Valour! Compassion! into a movie for New Line was a special treat. Starring Jason Alexander and John Glover, this gay Big Chill was a gathering of virtuoso performers.
