In all of the vastly spread entertainment industry, perhaps no name comes as close to legendary as Morgan Freeman’s does. For one who has aced pretty much all of the roles he has been presented with, the 87-year-old actor has done wonders for the big screen and brought some of the most cinematic pieces of masterworks to global audiences.

For instance, his iconic portrayal of Lucius Fox in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy will forever remain one of his best performances to date. Especially the one scene where Freeman proved that he will forever be the boss while bullying one of Bruce Wayne’s employees who was threatening him in an entirely enjoyable moment from the 2008 masterpiece.

Zack Snyder’s reputation as a filmmaker has become very divisive since his tenure in the DC universe. While he has loyal fans, many do not enjoy his unique take on beloved IPs and characters. The director tried his hand at Star Wars-inspired sci-fi with the two Rebel Moon films on Netflix.
Sofia Boutella as Kora in Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver | Netflix
While the films had an ambitious vision and scope, the underwhelming executive and boring characters led to them becoming two of the worst-reviewed Snyder films. With the director’s cut of the films coming next month, a spinoff prequel in the form of a podcast has been announced but fans aren’t interested in the franchise anymore.

When is Batman: Caped Crusader Set? Walk Down 1940s Gotham City - Main Image
When is Batman: Caped Crusader set, exactly? While the animated series on Prime is technically not canon to the DC Animated Universe timeline, fans would want to know which version of the Dark Knight they're seeing this August. Here's what the executive producer has to say.
Showrunner Reveals Batman: Caped Crusader is Practically An 'Urban Myth'
Created alongside J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, executive producer Bruce Timm is bringing a never-before-seen Bruce Wayne on Prime this August.
Apart from witnessing Batman in his eight-year-old days of mourning the death of his parents, Timm added how the Caped Crusader will stand out among the rest of the hero's series.
According to Timm, Batman is "so early in his career" in the premiere that he is basically considered an "urban myth".

The latest animated iteration of the Dark Knight, Batman: Caped Crusader, promises to feature a weirder version of our favorite bat vigilante, something that executive producer Bruce Timm recently revealed.

Anyone familiar with Zack Snyder’s films recognizes his distinctive and often polarizing approach to filmmaking. Snyder is celebrated as a visionary by some and criticized as a disappointment by others, but he never fails to evoke strong reactions. While he has delivered some of the most iconic comic book adaptations, he has also faced criticism for several shortcomings.
Snyder’s style is characterized by its dark and gritty tone, occasionally blended with campiness and exaggerated elements—an unusual combination that can be challenging to balance (as evidenced by Schumacher’s Batman films). His works provoke both praise and scrutiny, yet one consistent trait is his affinity for eccentricity.
And superheroes are central to his work. Whether they’re adaptations of comic books or not, all of his films fall within this genre. In a recent interview featured on Letterboxd, Snyder shared his thoughts and perspectives on superheroes as a whole.

Everyone who’s seen even one Zack Snyder movie knows that the filmmaker has a very specific and, in many ways, unique approach to his movies. Snyder is a visionary for some and a failure for others, but he doesn’t leave you indifferent, that is certain. He has made some of the most iconic comic book movies of all time, but he also made several horrible failures.
Snyder’s approach is specific. It is dark and gritty, but at the same time, it can be both campy and over the top, which is something that is not that easy to do since dark and gritty are rarely compatible with campy (just remember how Schumacher failed with Batman). Some of his works are lauded, some are criticized, but we can definitely confirm that he likes one thing – eccentricism!

Zack Snyder took on a major challenge when Warner Bros. approached him to make Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s classic comic Watchmen into a film. Several directors were considered for the film, which had been in development hell since 1987. Snyder’s stylish take on Frank Miller’s comic 300 impressed the studio.

He teams with writer Robert Venditti and artist Tomás Giorello on the upcoming space invasion limited series, which publisher Bad Idea will release in early March.
The Hollywood Reporter has a first-look at the series, which takes place on a frozen, hostile planet millions of miles away from Earth as a human invading force attempts to take out a deadly weapon on an alien planet. It centers on Corporal Scott, whose battalion is wiped out within moments of landing on the planet, leaving him the sole survivor. According to the description, “Against overwhelming odds, Scott dares the unthinkable — cross behind enemy lines, survive the lethal landscape, evade capture by ruthless enemies, resist natural predators, face human deserters and finish the mission single-handedly. Bruce Timm is responsible for Batman: The Animated Series and returns to the Dark Knight's world with next month's Batman: Caped Crusader when the series launches on Prime Video.
Produced by Timm alongside J.J. Abrams and The Batman director Matt Reeves, the series takes place in the 1940s and pulls inspiration from the character's earliest comic book adventures. The setting isn't the only big change, though, as Timm says this story plays out even earlier in Batman's vigilante career than Frank Miller's "Year One."
"Batman is so early in his career that in the first episode, he’s still an urban myth," he tells Empire Online (via Toonado.com). "It’s not 'Year One.' It’s more like 'Week Two.'"

Back in the ‘90s, Bruce Timm helped reinvent Batman in The Animated Series – a beloved cartoon that remains a huge hit with Bat-fans all around the world. And now, he’s hoping to do it again. Following The Animated Series and Batman Beyond, Timm has teamed up with J.J. Abrams and The Batman director Matt Reeves for animated outing Batman: Caped Crusader – an all-new take on the mythology of Bruce Wayne that transplants the characters we know and love to 1940s Gotham.
It’s not just the Noir-ish locales and streaming delivery that will mark Caped Crusader out as a distinct Bat-series. It’s one that gets into the earliest days of Wayne’s nocturnal crime-fighting exploits. “Batman is so early in his career that in the first episode, he’s still an urban myth,” Timm informs Empire. “It’s not ‘Year One’,” he notes, referring to the iconic Frank Miller...

Zack Snyder has developed an infamous reputation for being divisive among fans. His first two films Dawn of The Dead and 300 remain his most beloved works which showcased the best of Snyder as a director.

When Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch premiered in 2011, it was met with a polarizing reception. Critics and audiences were off-put by its unique style, ambitious narrative structure, and the way it blended genres. As someone who initially viewed the film through a less mature lens, I found myself unimpressed by its convoluted plot and perceived lack of substance. Hell, I even watched it twice upon release to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. As time went on, I had moved on from the stale taste it bestowed upon me. So much so that I had even skipped any future Snyder offerings, yes, this includes his Dceu output. Maybe I’ll get to those one day. Who knows? However, one thing I do know is for certain: Zack Snyder loves himself a director’s cut of his films. Recently, he has expressed his determination to give his first original film the ol’ Snyder Cut treatment,...

"That's their stuff, their business. They have a film in mind. I've already done it. I've done my Batman." Those were the words uttered by TV's Batman Adam West when asked about the casting of Michael Keaton in a new "Batman" film being put together by Warner Bros. in the late '80s. "Do you want the classic Coke, or do you want the new stuff? Maybe both." West suggests his hammy take on the DC Comics hero was Coke while Keaton would become New Coke. The only problem with West's metaphor is that, in this scenario, New Coke won the battle handily.

Batman villains tend to fall into two categories; the gleefully irredeemable ones and the tragic ones. Two-Face falls, naturally, on both ends of this spectrum because he's two minds in one.
He was once crusading Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent, one of the few honest officials in a den of corruption. Until, while prosecuting a case, he got acid thrown in his face, leaving half of it horribly scarred. Now he is Two-Face, a villain split between good and evil and fixated on games of chance (hence his habit of flipping a coin). Since Harvey Dent (personified in Two-Face's unscarred half) still lives, Batman often tries to pull him back to the light, never quite succeeding.
At least, that's how it usually is. The upcoming series "Batman: Caped Crusader" will be taking a different approach to Two-Face.

There was a time when writer Will Beall was one of Hollywood's most sought-after writers. However, after the star-studded Gangster Squad failed to meet expectations, that all changed.

The reason Beall got a "Story by" credit on that director's cut is because he was once tasked with writing a vaguely similar Justice League movie which, believe it or not, Ben Affleck was eyed to direct (years being cast as Batman).

In 2009, a relatively unknown developer, Rocksteady Studios, did something out of the box. It released a comic book video game that was truly revolutionary. Its name was Batman: Arkham Asylum. Cinema is an art. The very line has long defined the ethos of Hollywood and time has proved that those with a clear yet distinct artistic vision have reigned supreme at the box office for bringing a welcome change for the audiences. Alan Moore’s 1986-1987 limited series comic “Watchmen” is obviously a big game changer in comic books. Arriving the same year as Frank Miller’s 1986 “The Dark Knight Returns,” both heralded a new age of darker, much more mature comic books aimed at adult-level readers. Both signaled a new era in comics, and their influence on the culture is still being felt decades later.

Zack Snyder’s 300 told a fictionalized version of the Battle of Thermopylae and saw Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas leading 300 Spartans into battle against an army of about 300,000 soldiers. The film is based on the namesake limited comic book series created by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. 300 had its own ups and downs while it received mixed reviews from critics and a few awards, it also was also criticized for its historical inaccuracies.

Gerard Butler’s Leonidas led an army of 300 soldiers to face off against the 300,000 soldiers of the Persian God-King Xerxes in Zack Snyder’s 300. The David and Goliath story required actors to get ripped and look perfect in their half-naked attires. However, Warner Bros. exec Alan Horn wasn’t exactly convinced with Butler for the role after working with him on The Phantom of the Opera.

However, when Butler came to convince him, Horn decided to give him the role as per Snyder’s wish upon one condition. He knew from their earlier collaboration that Butler was a heavy smoker and he wanted the actor to quit smoking to land the part.

It's a tragedy that "comic book" is synonymous with "superhero." If film is sometimes dismissed as a less mature medium than literature, and television in turn deemed less than film, then comics are at the bottom of that rung. The medium being the birthplace of an inherently childish genre about strongmen in capes doesn't dissuade the uninitiated of that notion.
Someone who definitely agrees with me is Irish comic writer Garth Ennis. He co-created "The Boys," a series where CIA agent Billy Butcher leads a five-man squad dedicated to taking down corrupt "supes."
Ennis grew up reading war comics and the magazine "2000 Ad" (home of Judge Dredd), so he has no childhood fondness for superheroes and can look at them with a different eye than most comic writers. "I don't hate superheroes," Ennis has protested. "I just think they're kind of silly." Hence, "The Boys" is all about taking the piss out of superheroes,...

The so-called "MonsterVerse" is nowadays as silly as the original Toho "Godzilla" sequels became. The franchise's first entry, 2014's divisive but successful "Godzilla," looks downright anomalous. Directed with impeccable scale and craftsmanship by Gareth Edwards, the film exercises careful restraint, escalating the spectacle to make it more satisfying. The palette is made from smog and fire, i.e. what Godzilla and his monster adversaries (the MUTOs) leave in their wake. As star Elizabeth Olsen noted, the film is cut from the cloth of the original 1954 "Godzilla," where the eponymous monster is an allegory for nuclear destruction and natural disasters.
2014's "Godzilla" isn't perfect. It has a so-so script and Aaron Taylor-Johnson feels out of his depth as the lead (even if "The Fall Guy" proved he can be a movie star). Compared to the other MonsterVerse movies, though, it looks like "Jaws."
When Edwards' "Godzilla" went into production, the franchise was in a bad place.

Zack Snyder's 2006 film "300," based on the comic book by Frank Miller, tells a hyper-stylized and not-the-least-bit-historically-accurate version of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) wherein 300 Spartan soldiers managed to fend off anywhere from 120,000 to 300,000 soldiers of the Persian Empire for three full days. Both Miller's book and Snyder's film present the Spartans as teeth-gashing, testosterone-spitting, Spam-scented beefcake slabs comprised of nothing but pectoral muscles, testicles, and homophobia. They speak in "Join the Marines" recruiting slogans and disparage anything that's not at least 4000% more masculine than a two-ton bag of Tom Jones' chest hair.
Speaking of chest hair, none of the Spartans have any, happy to parade around their cartoonishly cut physiques as if they all possess a severe shirt allergy. Leading the charge is King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), a man who cannot help but add multiple exclamation marks after every sentence he speaks.

Ready your breakfast and eat hardy, for tonight we dine on 300 news! For anyone who's long hoped for more stories in the world of the Spartans (with lashings of comic book style), there's a promising update. According to Variety, a TV adaptation of the Zack Snyder historical epic – itself an adaptation of the legendary Frank Miller's graphic novel – is in early development at Warner Bros. Television. And what's more, Snyder – who directed and co-wrote the 2006 film – is in talks to helm the project.
In terms of plot details for the series, news is there is no news – Wbtv is keeping its cards close to their chest at present. But early word is that the series will serve as a prequel of some sort to the hyper-stylised film, which recounted the tale of how fearless leader Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his army of 300 Spartans held back thousands (possibly millions) of...

We have already written about Zack Snyder here on Fiction Horizon, and the overall conclusion, however you look at it, is that he is a divisive figure in the industry, even among fans. But, if there is one thing that fans agree about related to Zack Snyder is that his movie 300 was a masterpiece. Although the critics gave it mixed reviews, the fans almost unanimously love 300, and it is a movie that has withstood the test of time, remaining a popular work among fans of comic book adaptations. It has been years since we last explored that universe, but it seems that Warner Bros. is looking at all possible angles with its assets, so we can confirm that a 300 prequel television series is currently being developed at Warner Bros.

Earlier this week, social media scooper @MyTimeToShineH claimed that a 300 TV series is in development. Now, the news has been confirmed by Variety, with the trade explaining that it's still in the "early" stages right now.
It sounds like Warner Bros. Television is still figuring out the creative direction of the show as no writer or platform is currently attached (Max is surely the most likely destination). However, the plan is for this to be a prequel to the 2006 movie directed by Zack Snyder.
Talking of the Man of Steel and Rebel Moon filmmaker, Snyder is said to be in talks to direct and executive produce the 300 prequel, marking his first return to the world of comic books since 2021's Justice League Snyder Cut.
Deborah Snyder, who also executive produced 300, would return in the same role alongside Stone Quarry's Wesley Coller. Fellow 300 producers Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann...

Once again… this is Sparta! A television series based on 300 is reportedly in the works, set to expand the story of the 2006 action film. There’s no word on writers or platform, but Variety reports the prospective TV series will be a prequel to 300, which followed Spartan king Leonidas (Gerard Butler) as he led his band of elite soldiers in battle against the forces of Persian king Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). Zack Snyder — who directed and co-wrote 300, an adaptation of Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s comic book series of the same name — is in talks to direct and executive-produce series, per Variety. Deborah Snyder, Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann — all of whom produced or executive-produced 300 — are also in talks to return for the TV series, as is Wesley Coller of the Snyders’ Stone Quarry production company, the magazine reports. 300, which also starred Lena Headey,...

In 2006, you could scarcely go a day without someone shouting, “This is Sparta!” in your face. The iconic line by Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas in Zack Snyder’s 300 became a battle cry for anyone looking to punt an irritant off a cliff. Out of sight. Out of mind. According to sources, a 300 TV series is developing at Warner Bros. TV. Writer, director, and producer Zack Snyder has become forever entwined with comic book cinema, with many devoted fans knowing him best for his work with the DC universe, but once upon a time he directed a very different kind of comic book movie. Nearly 20 years ago, back in 2006, a little movie called "300" blew everyone's minds and kicked itself into the pop culture consciousness, teaching us all about the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, where King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his 300 Spartans held off a massive Persian army under King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). Sure, it wasn't super historically accurate because it was based on the graphic novel by "Sin City" artist and scribe Frank Miller (with colors by Lynn Varley), but it was impossibly cool. It inspired all kinds of tributes and spoofs and even a spin-off film, "300: Rise of an Empire," which showed the naval side of the battle,...

We've been hearing whispers about a potential small-screen 300 spin-off for years, and it seems a series may finally be moving forward - but it more than likely will not be based on Frank Miller's graphic novel or the movie adaptations that followed.
According to scooper Mttsh, a "300 TV series is officially in development."
We don't have any more to go on for now, but THR recently reported that Zack Snyder, who helmed the 2006 movie, had regained the rights to Blood and Ashes, which was originally pitched to Warner Bros. as a follow-up to 300 and its sequel, Rise of an Empire.
The story, which Snyder began writing while working on Army of the Dead, moves away from the Spartans to focus on the relationship between Alexander the Great and his second in command, Haphaestion.
“We got the rights back so we can make if we want it,” Snyder told the trade in a 2023 interview.

The story, which Snyder began writing while working on Army of the Dead, moves away from the Spartans to focus on the relationship between Alexander the Great and his second in command, Haphaestion.
“We got the rights back so we can make if we want it,” Snyder told the trade in a 2023 interview.

"Deadpool and Wolverine" — which is due out on July 26, 2024 — will mark Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine after a seven year hiatus. (I remember vividly when 2017's "Logan" was supposed to be his final bow.)
Ever since superhero movies have become Marvel and DC's biggest cultural footprints, the comics have had the mandate to follow their lead. The adaptations point the direction of the source material, not the other way around.
Take how, in the 2010s, Marvel relegated the X-Men from the top shelf to the dustbin because 20th Century Fox owned the mutants' movie rights. Once Marvel's parent company Disney acquired Fox (and the X-Men with it) in 2019, the X-Men were raised back up. "Deadpool and Wolverine" is the greatest culmination of that merger yet, with the film's trailers suggesting the Merc with a Mouth is entering the MCU full-throttle — and bringing the rest of Fox's Marvel films along with him.
