Prince William and Kate Middleton have been doing their best to raise their three children in the royal spotlight while also balancing their royal duties. William and Kate share Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, and although they still make plenty of public appearances, the Prince and Princess of Wales have been mostly keeping their children away from the spotlight.
However, when the Wales family does appear in public, they often all have something in common. And one of Camilla Parker Bowles’ friends has blasted William and Kate’s public appearances with their children, branding them “childish.”

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for the new documentary “All Man: The International Male Story,” the story of a male fashion icon and the people who developed it. In select theaters and through digital Video on Demand on June 6th.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
This is the story of that ubiquitous “mail order” magazine. Founder Gene Burkhard was an ex-Air Force veteran and gay man in the closeted 1950s, who ended up after his service living in Europe. What he noticed was the freedom in men’s fashions there, especially during the Swingin’ London scene in the Carnaby Street 1960s. That observation became the idea for International Male, which began when Burkhard started selling medical undergarments as Speedo-style bikini bottoms … for men. Like Hugh Hefner, he envisioned his new fashion catalog as a fantasy destination for men, the women who buy their clothing and of course gay men in post Stonewall America.

A more valid criterion will be to see how its influence survives today, or say, how at home we would be if we are somehow sent back to one of these civilisations?
On both these standards, ancient Rome, say in the late Republican period (1st century Bce), could well qualify.
In Rome of this period, you would find yourself in a large sprawling city, where plush neighbourhoods with elegant villas are interspersed with more crowded areas full of multi-storey buildings, streets teem with people from all over the known world, there are markets and various services, common people eagerly follow and gossip over the foibles of the rich and famous, are swayed by sops and entertainment spectacles, stay keenly involved in governance which, however, is largely a preserve of professional politicians with issues over public works, food subsidies, corruption et al predominating.

The Masked Singer is back on our screens, turning the nation into at-home detectives as they try to figure out who this year’s celebrity contestants are.
The singing competition series, in which celebrities compete anonymously behind giant anthropomorphic costumes, returned on New Year’s Day, with the first group of contestants all performing.
Among the group was Phoenix, who was shown in their Vt standing within a grand castle and explaining in a posh accent that “I am rather hot, aren’t I?”
“Fire” by Kasabian then played as Phoenix said that they had risen from the ashes and been “born anew” and “reincarnated”.
They also said that they were good with “mysteries” and “following a trail”, while Phoenix was shown inspecting foot prints with a magnifying glass.
Phoenix’s first performance was a jazz version of “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk. While performing, they sang with an American accent.

For countless gay men of a slightly earlier era, the International Male catalogue provided a portal to fashion… and fantasy. Handsome men with chiseled jaws and muscled bods filled the pages of Im, often clad in no more than a skimpy pair of underwear. Straight dudes could ogle the Victoria’s Secret catalogue bursting with “angels” in lingerie; for gay guys there was International Male.
The documentary All Man: The International Male Story, which played at the Outfest LGBTQ+ Film Festival in Los Angeles, explores the history of the pioneering publication that styled itself as a “catalogue/magazine.” Bryan Darling and Jesse Finley Reed directed the film.
“It was loosely based on my experience going into the bedroom and locking the door” to enjoy Im, Reed joked during a Q&a after the weekend screening. “I came to Bryan, I said, ‘You know what? Let’s make a funny little like...

For gay men who came of age in the 1970s through the early 1990s, hiding the “International Male” catalog, which somehow seemed to magically appear in the family mailbox, became a rite of passage. “All Man: The International Male Story” examines the genesis of the catalog and its continuing cultural relevance — and the story told here winds up being more complex than it may at first appear.
Co-directors Bryan Darling and Jesse Finley Reed and writer Peter Jones manage to cover a lot of territory in a compact 83-minute running time, while striking the same balance between sexy and peculiar that makes the catalog such a hard-to-parse artifact of its era.
It all began in the head of Gene Burkard, interviewed here as an elderly man who recalls spending all night hiding under the table of a gay bar in order to avoid arrest. Burkard grew up in the post-war...

Feature Zoe Bond Jan 16, 2013
Zoe provides an introduction to the TV version of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, a television series unlike any other...
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable series. In fact it's arguably the most remarkable series ever to come out of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Not only is it a remarkable series it is also a highly successful one, having already been produced as a radio series, novel, LP and stage show.
Labelled by unimaginative producers as ‘unfilmable’, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was aired on BBC two in January 1981 to an eagerly awaiting audience of fans and hoopy froods alike. The award winning series starred many of the original cast members including Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox and Peter Jones as the voice of the guide; however for the TV series a new Trillian and Ford Prefect were required.

Co-writer of TV sitcoms On the Buses and The Rag Trade
At the height of his writing partnership with Ronald Chesney, Ronald Wolfe, who has died aged 89 after a fall, enjoyed huge success with the sitcom On the Buses; its bawdy humour was panned by the critics but lapped up by the viewing public. Originally turned down by the BBC, the idea for a comedy based around the antics of a driver and conductor giving their inspector the runaround at the Luxton Bus Company appealed to Frank Muir, head of entertainment at the newly launched ITV company London Weekend Television.
Reg Varney played Stan Butler, at the wheel of the No 11, and Bob Grant was his lothario conductor, Jack. The pair made life hell for the miserable Inspector Blake (Stephen Lewis). Blakey's "Get that bus out" and "I 'ate you, Butler" were two of the most frequent lines that flowed...

Actor best known as Paddy, the militant shop steward in the BBC's The Rag Trade
The actor Miriam Karlin, who has died of cancer aged 85, became famous in the early 1960s as Paddy, the militant shop steward of a London clothing firm in the BBC television comedy series The Rag Trade. As Paddy, who was always willing to signal a strike with a whistle and her catchphrase "Everybody out!", Karlin was watched by millions, and quoted by millions. But neither that success, nor her more serious roles on stage, removed the gnawing dissatisfaction she felt at not achieving something more serious. She channelled some of that feeling into promoting broadly leftwing causes as a member of the council of the actors' union Equity, and as a campaigner for the Anti-Nazi League, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Soviet Jewry.
She was born Miriam Samuels and brought up in Hampstead, north London,...

The strike by women at the Dagenham Ford factory in 1968 that led to the Equal Pay Act is given the Calendar Girls treatment
Andrzej Wajda's superb Man of Iron (1981) was shot in the Gdansk shipyards at the very heart of Solidarity's activities, gave Lech Walesa a brief role as himself, and became part of the political process it commented on. It was a rare case of a feature film based on a major episode in the history of organised labour made close to the actual events. More typically, Mario Monicelli's The Organizer (1963) was a bracing reconstruction of a strike in late 19th-century Turin. Bo Widerberg's Adalen 31 (1969) lyrically recreated the violent strike in northern Sweden that ushered in 40 years of Social Democratic government.
There was an even greater gap in the case of Comrades (1986), Bill Douglas's epic account of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, the Dorset labourers transported...
