Danny Boyle's New Movie Ink: Jack O'Connell & Guy Pearce In Talks To Star
Image
After the global success of 28 Years Later, director Danny Boyle is showing no signs of slowing down, with a new movie on the horizon. 28 Years Later marked the third installment in the franchise and Boyle's long-awaited return to the post-apocalyptic genre he helped define. The film received positive reviews and grossed $150 million worldwide.

Critics praised the intense pacing, atmospheric dread, and 28 Years Later'scast — especially Jack O'Connell's performance as Sir Jimmy Crystal — with Boyle gearing up for another sequel in 2026. For Boyle, 28 Years Later'ssuccess reaffirmed his reputation as one of the most versatile directors, capable of dramatic genre shifts. Now, the Oscar-winning filmmaker is pivoting once more.

According to a report by Deadline, 28 Years Later'sJack O'Connell may reunite with Boyle for his new movie, Ink. The upcoming film will adapt James Graham's acclaimed stage play, which focuses on media mogul Rupert Murdoch's rise in the U.

Guy Pearce Circling Lead Role In Danny Boyle’s Rupert Murdoch Movie Ink
Image
Earlier this year, Danny Boyle returned to the big screen with 28 Years Later, a horrifying examination of the dark side of humanity, the insidious capacity of the media to shape society in its image, and — basically — where it all went wrong for us Homo sapiens. Continuing in that vein then, Boyle's next movie will be Ink, which is set to detail media mogul Rupert Murdoch's rise to power in the late 1960s. And, according to THR, The Brutalist Oscar nominee Guy Pearce is currently in talks to play the mega-rich magnate.

Per THR's reporting, negotiations are ongoing for Aussie actor Pearce to take on the role of Rupert Murdoch in the movie, which writer James Graham has adapted from his own same-named 2017 play. What's more, Jack O'Connell — who so memorably showed up as the tracksuit rocking Jimmy during 28 Years Later's bonkers ending — is being eyed to co-star as Larry Lamb,...

‘Awards Chatter’ Pod: Seth Rogen on ‘The Studio’ and How It Was Shaped by ‘Freaks and Geeks,’ ‘Superbad,’ ‘The Green Hornet’ and the Sony Hack
Image
“My career is not one steeped with awards attention,” notes Seth Rogen, chuckling in his inimitable way, on the latest episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. “I’ve accepted that, and that’s become fine with me. So it is nice and sort of novel that, after working for this long, something new and exciting can happen.”

The Canadian actor, writer, producer and director is referring to the TV Academy’s tremendous embrace of the The Studio, the Apple TV+ comedy series about a present-day Hollywood studio chief that he co-created, co-wrote, co-directed and stars in. Last month, the show received 23 Emmy nominations — breaking Ted Lasso’s record for most noms for a rookie comedy and tying the second season of The Bear’s record for most noms for any season of a comedy — including acting, writing, producing and directing noms for Rogen himself. He emphasizes, “We’re very thrilled about it.

This Aspiring Gen-z Greta Gerwig Just Took a Page Out of Francis Ford Coppola’s Self-Distribution Playbook
Image
Filmmaker Kayci Lacob knew she wanted to capture everything about growing up in the heart of Silicon Valley during the early-2000s tech boom for her directorial debut. She also knew that her first film deserved to be in theaters, and so Lacob did what most established auteurs are still hesitant to do (other than Francis Ford Coppola with “Megalopolis”): She is self-distributing her debut “Everything to Me” for a theatrical run and “betting” on audiences to buy tickets.

“Everything to Me” isn’t without star power. “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Ponyboi,” and “You” actress Victoria Pedretti leads the film as Claudia, a woman reflecting on her career trajectory and life choices years after aspiring to be the next Steve Jobs as a Stanford freshman (Abigail Donaghy plays a younger version of the character). But this isn’t an Elizabeth Holmes story gone awry: “Everything to Me” is...

David Ellison’s High Wire Act
Image
When David Ellison had an informal meeting with New York-based media executives at a restaurant in the city earlier this year introducing the Hollywood producer to the kind of people he’d soon be communing with, the vibe was, to say the least, amiable. The Skydance founder was awaiting FCC approval on his bid to buy Paramount, and so he chatted a little and mostly listened, the executives joking about the challenged landscape as Ellison responded with platitudes about his vision for a well-run Paramount. But one point about Ellison stood out to attendees: He talked a lot about gaming.

The emphasis spoke volumes about where Ellison’s eye is trained as he takes over Paramount: Steward a company anchored by a traditional film studio and freighted down by a lot of dated television assets, sure, but also make a big push to digital frontiers.

Skydance already has a hand...

Sarah Paulson Joins Entertainment 360 After Carlyle‑Backed Expansion
Steve Jobs
Entertainment 360, the management‑and‑production firm behind Game of Thrones and other marquee projects, has added another trophy name to its roster: Emmy, Golden Globe and newly minted Tony winner Sarah Paulson has signed for representation, ending a 13‑year stretch in which she handled her own management affairs while remaining with CAA for agency services.

The agreement was finalized just six months after Entertainment 360 accepted a minority investment from global private‑equity giant Carlyle, capital earmarked to scale client services and fuel “extraordinary opportunities for artists,” according to the companies’ joint statement.

Paulson’s move comes amid a wave of consolidation across Hollywood’s representation sector, where private equity has begun targeting management companies following a decade of agency roll‑ups. Analysts say the Carlyle deal positions Entertainment 360 to compete more aggressively for A‑list talent and develop in‑house productions around its clients, a strategy that has already...

The 6th Day (2000) – What Happened to This Sci-Fi Action Movie?
Image
It may be hard to remember today with all we’ve been through as a people in the last twenty-five years, but back in the late 90s and early 2000s, cloning was a scorching hot news topic. Though we don’t agree on mostly anything these days, back then there were legitimate reasons for vehement opinions on both sides as the ability to clone pets and humans began to feel eerily reachable. Naturally, Hollywood stepped in to do what Hollywood does. They gave us a humorous but sneakily deep-thinking Sci-Fi/Action flick about all of the discourse surrounding cloning, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. And he almost died making it. This is the story of what happened to The 6th Day.

When husband/wife writing duo Marianne and Cormac Wibberley sold the second script they’d written together to Disney to break onto the scene, they were shocked by how quickly they...

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (Peter Browngardt)

Directed by Peter Browngardt, this is a charming affair. Modeled after sci-fi B-movies of the 1950s and starring Looney Tunes legends Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza), The Day the Earth Blew Up starts with a UFO landing. The spacecraft takes off on the roof of Porky and Daffy’s broken-down house (bequeathed to them by surrogate father Farmer Jim) just before crashing. It goes on to infect a local scientist (Fred Tatasciore) with a zombifying goo not long after. Soon enough, the goo is in the mix at the gum factory, where Porky and Daffy have taken jobs in a last-ditch effort to save their beloved home from being demolished.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer Teaser Features More Superpowers And The Human Torch's Iconic Flame 4
Image
A new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives tomorrow, and a teaser has just dropped featuring some thrilling, never-before-seen footage from the Marvel Studios reboot.

That includes a shot of Galactus looming over New York, Reed Richards' stretchy superpowers in action, and the Human Torch creating a "4" from his flames, an iconic piece of imagery lifted straight from the comic books. Hopefully, we can expect more of the same tomorrow.

Mister Fantastic actor Pedro Pascal was recently asked about Reed's greatest weakness and responded, "I think when your mind is always focused on the greater good, you can miss a lot of little details. Knowing those details is very important to keeping the family together."

That echoes what filmmaker Matt Shakman said when he described Mister Fantastic as "part Steve Jobs and part Oppenheimer," adding that the hero has "always [been] on the edge of saving the world or destroying it.

The Spotlight on Pixar Intensifies as ‘Elio’ Becomes Latest Original Animated Pic to Crash Land
Image
It’s hard to believe nearly a decade has passed since Pixar’s Coco, an original, music-infused fantastical yarn about a Mexican boy who travels to Land of the Dead, grossed nearly $800 million at the global box office to rank No. 11 on the year’s list of top-grossing films. That was in 2017, a time when no one could have anticipated it would be quickly followed by a dramatic downturn in the appetite for original animated fare.

For Pixar, that downturn hit a new tipping point with the debut of Elio over the June 20-22 weekend. The original summer tentpole, about an orphaned boy whose wish to be abducted by aliens comes true, debuted to a dismal $20.8 million domestically and $14 million overseas in what’s by far a record-low opening for the storied animation studio co-founded by the late Steve Jobs and later acquired by Disney.

Publicly, Disney execs are putting...

This ‘MADtv’ Sketch About iRack and iRan Goes Viral After Returning to Grim Relevance
Image
The United States of America is embroiled in a new military operation in the Middle East that threatens to destabilize the entire region and drag us into another endless, multi-trillion-dollar war, which can only mean one thing — it’s time to buy Apple stock.

Many members of the Millennial-and-above generations who are watching nervously as Donald Trump puts America smack-dab in the middle of the conflict between Iran and Israel can’t shake the sickening feeling that we’ve been down this road before. As President Trump implores the American people to re-think their feelings on the phrase “regime change” while Vice President J.D. Vance swears that, this time, the President in charge of throwing American lives and tax dollars at a foreign entanglement isn’t “dumb,” those of us who lived through the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and other oil-rich, Arab-majority countries are wondering when the makers of MADtv...

Danny Boyle, 68, Passes Monumental Career Box Office Milestone Thanks to ’28 Years Later’
Image
If it seems like Danny Boylehas left an indelible impression on the last three decades of cinema, that's only because it's true. The British filmmaker has always been ahead of the curve, sometimes to his own detriment. His latest film,28 Years Later, finds him in typically adventurous form. He shot a large portion of it on iPhones and created startling images using inventive rigs and setups. The film opened this past week to positive reviews and helped push Boyle's career box office haul past a majestic milestone.

Thanks to the $60 million that the zombie sequel has grossed globally so far, the cumulative total of Boyle's movies has passed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. To be precise, the grand total revenue of all his films combined currently stands at around $1.04 billion globally. Boyle's biggest hit remains Slumdog Millionaire, the India-set sleeper hit that was almost released directly on home video,...

Pedro Pascal Just Revealed Reed Richards' 1 Big Weakness
Image
Pedro Pascal shared the one significant weakness of his version of Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Reed Richards is perhaps one of the most brilliant minds in the Marvel Universe, and the McU's iteration of the character is set to take center stage in the upcoming Phase 6 movie, where he is set to prove that he is an important character in the Multiverse Saga's grand scheme of things. However, Richards is far from perfect, as evidenced by the worst mistakes he committed from Marvel Comics (such as The Multiversal Bridge and the superhero prison in the Negative Zone).

Pascal's version of Reed Richards is not from the mainline MCU, but he will soon cross paths with the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes due to the Fantastic Four's confirmed appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. While not much is known about Pascal's Mr. Fantastic, The Fantastic Four director...

Bill Burr Had An Epic Rant About Steve Jobs
Image
When Steve Jobs passed away in 2011, he was a national folk hero — the Apple icon defined 21st-century life with innovations like the iPod, iPad and iPhone. But at least one comedian didn’t appreciate his contributions. “I’m not a big fan of Steve Jobs,” Bill Burr complained to Conan O’Brien back in 2012.

“He's like Edison,” protested O’Brien, unable to comprehend how anyone could have an issue with Jobs. “He invented all this stuff!”

But did he? Burr couldn’t imagine Jobs sitting down in his black turtleneck to invent the iPhone, welding away on electronic prototypes. “Didn’t he have a crew of guys helping him out?” Burr griped. “Why, when he went to those nerd fests, didn’t he have a chorus of scientists behind him who helped him out? He walked out like he was Tesla tapping into electricity.”

Burr thinks the reality was different. In his version,...

How Steve Jobs Courted Hollywood

The company was barely 5 years old in 1981 when it tapped Cavett to star in a series of commercials designed to demystify the idea of using a home computer. The choice of the erudite writer and talk show host said so much about who Apple saw as its target audience.

Steve Jobs, the legendary tech visionary who co-founded Apple with Steve Wozniak, was famously attentive to image-making for his brand. And when it came to speaking to Hollywood, first and foremost, Apple took care to position itself as a wellspring of high-end filmmaking tools. Jobs, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2011 at age 56, knew how valuable it was for Apple to be embraced as the gold standard for creative design, editing and visual effects. He also...

Image
As The Fantastic Four: First Steps gets closer to its big Marvel Cinematic Universe release, the director shares what comic influences he drew from for the reboot. While The Multiverse Saga may be coming to an end in Phase 6, Marvel's First Family is about to have their beginning in the MCU, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps' release coming up in July. As this will mark the latest cinematic depiction of the team, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be drawing more from the comics in comparison to previous live-action incarnations.

On June 3, the Marvel Premiere Collection release for Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic Four: Solve Everything is becoming available for purchase, and to celebrate it, The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman (via Variety) wrote the collection's foreword. The Fantastic Four Director Matt Shakman Reveals How Jonathan Hickman's Comic Book Run Inspired First Steps
Image
After helming WandaVision, a TV series still widely considered one of Marvel Studios' best, filmmaker Matt Shakman moved on to The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Spider-Man: No Way Home helmer Jon Watts was originally attached to direct, but Shakman wasn't a last-minute hire and made the movie his own. While Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's early Fantastic Four comic books were an obvious inspiration, so too was Jonathan Hickman's game-changing run.

Variety has shared Shakman's foreword for the new Marvel Premiere Collection release, Fantastic Four: Solve Everything. That collects issues #570 - #588, written by Hickman with art from Dale Eaglesham, Neil Edwards and Steve Epting.

We're sure some of you will comb through these remarks for clues, and Shakman's mention of The Bridge, for example, stands out as a concept he's potentially adapted for the MCU.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps' trailers have confirmed that Mister Fantastic is investigating the Multiverse,...

‘The Fantastic Four’ Director Matt Shakman Reveals the ‘Magical’ Comics That Inspired the Film in ‘Small and Large Ways’ (Exclusive)
Image
Before Iron Man, before the Hulk, before Spider-Man, there was the Fantastic Four. The quartet of astronauts transformed into superheroes were Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s first creation for Marvel Comics, launching the sprawling storytelling universe of interconnected characters that has endured for 64 years. Until Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, however, Reed Richards (a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic), Sue Storm (a.k.a. the Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (a.k.a. the Human Torch) and Ben Grimm (a.k.a. the Thing), as were unable to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That will finally change in July with the premiere of Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” starring Pedro Pascal as Reed, Vanessa Kirby as Sue, Joseph Quinn as Johnny and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben. To marshal Marvel’s First Family into the MCU, studio chief Kevin Feige tapped veteran director Matt Shakman, who helmed every episode...

Test Review: When Moral Lines Blur On and Off the Pitch
Image
“Test,” an Indian drama now available on streaming platforms, uses the fervent world of international cricket as its canvas. Specifically, the narrative unfolds against the backdrop of a highly anticipated test match between India and Pakistan – an event that, for audiences familiar with the subcontinent’s passions, is far more than a mere sporting contest; it is a recognized stage for national pride and intense rivalry.

The film traces the intersecting trajectories of three central individuals, each grappling with formidable personal and professional trials that push them to their limits. As their stories converge, “Test” probes ambitions that curdle, moral compasses that spin under duress, and the crushing weight of expectation, hinting at a complex, if not entirely seamless, exploration of human fallibility.

Three Lives on a Collision Course

The film introduces its key players as they navigate precarious junctures. Arjun (Siddharth) is a celebrated cricketer confronting a sharp career decline.

‘Mountainhead’ Movie Ending Explained & Summary: Will Randall Die?
Image
Mountainhead’s ending is a surreal turn of events that reminds you that humanity is truly on the brink. HBO Max’s TV film tells the story of 4 tech-bros who have their regular weekend getaway at the titular spot, one of their homes, in the middle of a snowy mountain range. The billionaires have gathered to chill and have a fun weekend, but this is, of course, impossible when you’re a billionaire whose app has essentially just set fire to the whole darn world. In Mountainhead, Jeff can be considered the “good” guy. He has what you could call a sense of self-control, and he’s grounded, despite his growing wealth and position in the world. On the other hand, there’s Venis, whose company, Traam, has launched a new updated version of their AI program that has basically turned the world upside down because of how realistic its fake content can be.

Why Kevin Conroy Changed His Batman Voice For The New Batman Adventures
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The late Kevin Conroy will always be the voice of Batman. His 30 year tenure in the role, from "Batman: The Animated Series" to Conroy's fitting bow-out in "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths — Part Three," is immortal. Conroy brought his own life into the performance that redefined the Dark Knight; as a gay man living in mid-20th century America, Conroy could relate to Batman keeping secrets and pain bottled up inside.

But across his many times voicing Batman, Conroy's voice shifted. During the original run of "Batman: The Animated Series," Conroy's Batman voice wasn't quite as deep as it became. He also gave the character two voices: a light and laidback one for Bruce Wayne (which was Conroy's own natural voice) and a stern one for Batman.

Then, in 1997, the series relaunched with an updated art style as "The New Batman Adventures.

The Nine-Minute Bromance Video That Launched a $6 Billion AI Mystery
Image
It’s “the coolest piece of technology the world has ever seen.” It’s going to “completely reimagine what it means to use a computer.” It’s the “beginning of the greatest technological revolution in our lifetimes.”

It’s a floor wax and a dessert topping.

In one of the more head-scratching branding exercises in recent Silicon Valley history, OpenAI on Thursday dropped a nine-minute video of CEO Sam Altman and former Apple designer Jony Ive strolling the streets of San Francisco, settling onto a couple of stools in a macchiato bar, and chatting amiably — one might even say bromantically — about how much they admire one another.

Also, how the new mystery gizmo they’re building together — whatever the hell it might be — will change the course of human evolution.

Not surprisingly, the internet had a field day. “How is this not satire?” one viewer asked. “I’ll be happy...

Mountainhead
Image
Ayn Rand’s 1943 novel The Fountainhead, a paean to capitalist self-interest, has become a bible for right-wingers and entrepreneurs from Donald Trump to Steve Jobs. In his latest skewering of the super-rich and his first feature film as a director, Succession’s Jesse Armstrong borrows the title of Rand’s book for a Bond villain-style lair where a group of amoral, mega-powerful tech magnates watch a global crisis unfold, one that they insist they aren’t at all responsible for.

We find host Hugo (a wonderfully weaselly Jason Schwartzman), aka ‘Souper’, waiting at Mountainhead for his friends to arrive and praying one of them will “bust a B-nut” (i.e. invest a billion dollars) in his new wellness app. But his guests have more pressing matters on their minds. Elon Musk-alike Venis (Cory Michael Smith), the richest of the quartet, has unveiled a generative AI feature on his social-media...

The Pitt Cast Guide: Where You've Seen The Actors Before
Image
If you've seen "The Pitt" you probably feel like you've worked an entire shift in a real emergency room. That's very much the point of the Max series, which has become a big hit for the streamer in recent months to the extent that there's already talk of a "Pitt" spin-off and celebrity fans are singing the show's praises.

Undoubtedly, part of the show's success is it's commitment to realism. Unlike other series, "The Pitt" depicts its medical drama with a strikingly naturalistic tone that immerses you in what can feel like the truly harrowing lives of real emergency medical staff. After just a few episodes you feel the strain under which the doctors and nurses at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital are working, and when you start to think about how this is just a single day in their lives, you realize just how unfathomable the pressure of the medical field really is,...

‘Bono: Stories Of Surrender’: On Irish Fathers & Sons, Processing Family Tragedy & How A Need To Be Heard Propelled A Dublin Kid To Become One Of The World’s Biggest Rock Stars
Image
Bono laid bare his transformation from Dublin lad Paul Hewson into a global rock star and human rights crusader in his memoir Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story. Now, premiering at Cannes, comes the Andrew Dominik-directed documentary Bono: Stories of Surrender. Culled from the U2 frontman’s 2023 one-man show at New York’s Beacon Theater, Bono weaves performances of his best-known hit songs into a tale of a youngster suffering the shocking loss of his mother and trying in vain to get the needed acknowledgment from a grieving father who withdrew and never mentioned his dead wife in their Dublin home. The need to fill the void and to be seen and heard led to a miracle. In the span of a week, the 16-year-old Bono found the family that would sustain him. In short order, he fell in love with future wife Ali, and found his bandmates Dave Evans (The...

What Is The Cast Of Malcolm In The Middle Up To Now?
Image
We're not the boss of you now, but we still strongly recommend revisiting the classic sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle." Created in 2000 by "Little House on the Prairie" alum Linwood Boomer, the series ran for seven seasons and over 150 episodes before it ended in 2006. Though it may seem somewhat predictable now, it was a fairly subversive program at the time with regard to how chaotic and internally hostile the central Wilkerson family could be.

The actors who portrayed the Wilkersons -- and the neighbors, classmates, relatives, and co-workers they terrorize -- were an amusing mix of established sitcom stalwarts and up-and-coming child actors, a dynamic encapsulated by Malcolm actor Frankie Muniz and his on-screen father Bryan Cranston. With nearly a decade of television between us and the series finale and a reunion miniseries reportedly on the way, we're more curious than ever what the cast of "Malcolm in the Middle" is up to now,...

Hot Take: Leonardo DiCaprio Shouldn’t Have Won Oscar in 2016, Michael Fassbender Should Have
Image
Let’s talk about The Revenant. 2016 – The year Leonardo DiCaprio finally clinched that elusive Oscar after what seemed like a lifetime of being the bridesmaid, never the bride. Sure, it was a feel-good moment, the kind of redemption story Hollywood loves to tell. But wait… Did the Titanic star really deserve that statue for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant? Or was this a case of the Academy just making up for lost time?

We’re not saying his performance wasn’t impressive, because it was. But let’s not forget that year another actor turned in a performance that was just as bold, just as nuanced, and in many ways, far more deserving of the gold. Michael Fassbender, playing Steve Jobs in Steve Jobs, turned in a performance that was a surgical dissection of a complicated genius. Fassbender was nothing short of masterful in his portrayal of the man behind Apple,...

Darren Aronofsky Was ‘Really Upset’ After ‘The Whale’: ‘I Couldn’t Figure Out What Was Next’ for My Career
Image
Darren Aronofsky had a big problem after the huge success of “The Whale”: He didn’t know what to do next. While “The Whale” landed lead star Brendan Fraser the Best Actor Oscar in 2023, Aronofsky was weighed down by the intensity of the feature’s plot about a man who essentially eats himself to death. Aronofsky wanted to work on a film that was lighter in tone.

“I was really upset that I couldn’t figure out what was next,” he told Vanity Fair. “And I kind of had this urge to do something fun.”

That led him to revisit Charlie Huston’s script for “Caught Stealing,” which had been in the works for about 15 years. “I felt like there was just so much tension in our normal lives that I felt like the one thing that Hollywood has always done great is entertain. I looked at my projects and I said,...

The Pitt Star Noah Wyle Played A Tech Giant In A Movie That's Impossible To Watch Today
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

We are already a quarter through 2025, and it is clear that television has been quite exemplary so far. One of the year's most buzzed-about series is the Max original, "The Pitt," which stars Noah Wyle as the protagonist, Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinovitch. Wyle is receiving widespread acclaim, with some predicting him to be a major contender at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, having been nominated five times for his role as John Carter, M.D. in "ER."

Noah Wyle has had quite the prolific career, appearing in numerous TV series and films in both lead and supporting roles. Through his work in television, he has appeared in "Falling Skies," "The Librarians," and "Leverage: Redemption." Some of his notable film appearances include "A Few Good Men," "Donnie Darko," and "W." However, one of his most famous roles was as arguably the...

“I build worlds”: Rob McElhenney Made ‘Mythic Quest’ After His Bizarre Meeting With Studio Behind Assassin’s Creed
Image
You know Rob McElhenney as the guy who made It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the show that somehow convinced us to root for a gang of sociopaths running a bar with no morals, no ambition, and zero understanding of consequences. But after nearly two decades of absurd chaos with Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Dee, and Frank, McElhenney decided to turn his world-building skills to the next dysfunctional ecosystem, the video game industry.

Then came Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, a slick, chaotic, and surprisingly heartfelt series about the studio behind a massive online RPG that makes World of Warcraft look like Minesweeper. It’s a show where debugging code is somehow as dramatic as Game of Thrones, minus the dragons, but with just as much betrayal.

Rob McElhenney in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia | Credits: FX/Fxx

But why did McElhenney, a guy best known for screaming about karate and cats, suddenly...

When Mila Kunis Revealed Ashton Kutcher’s Jobs Prep Involved Only Eating Grapes & Hospital Visits Followed
Image
Did Mila Kunis hate Ashton Kutcher’s grape-laden job prep process? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Back in 2013, Kutcher starred as the Apple co-founder in the biopic Jobs. He didn’t just study the man, he tried to be him. From mimicking Jobs’ walk, voice, and mannerisms to copying his diet, Kutcher went all-in. Problem? That diet was fruitarian. And at one point, it was just grapes.

“He only ate grapes at one point, it was so stupid,” Mila Kunis said (via People). “We ended up in the hospital twice with pancreatitis!” She added, “He was so dumb,” with a mix of exasperation and affection that only comes from witnessing your husband sabotage his pancreas for a movie.

Kutcher had already opened up about this back in the day, during the premiere of Jobs. “I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was like doubled over in pain,...

USS Callister Recap: Did Robert Daly Die In The ‘Black Mirror’ Episode?
Image
USS Callister, one of the best episodes of Black Mirror season 4, is finally getting a sequel to give all the key characters a conclusive ending. The story revolves around a video game company, Callister Inc, that, in the near future, has developed a multiplayer online gaming platform called Infinity that gives gamers access to a virtual universe where they can compete against each other. With the wearable device called the “Disk,” the players can transfer their consciousness to the simulated reality, enabling them to take control of a spaceship and conquer the infinite universe. The first episode of season 4 mostly focuses on Robert Daly, the developer of the game, who can better be described as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. In his pursuit to seek revenge on his fellow colleagues, Robert ends up being the real villain of the story. With that said, allow me to narrate all the...

5 Celebs Who Handed Out Trash Instead of Real Autographs
Image
Autographs are holdovers from the days before everyone carried cameras on them at all times. If you met a celebrity back then, your only options to record the encounter were to make them sign a piece of paper or to befriend them and keep them in your home forever.

For celebrities, the pride they feel the first time a fan asks for their autograph eventually gives way to annoyance, especially when the item you ask them to sign is secretly a deed of sale. They might refuse the demand and offer you something else instead.

5 Kobe Bryant

Bryant’s final game with the NBA was on April 13, 2016. The Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 101 to 96, and 60 of those 101 points were scored by Kobe himself. There haven’t been that many games in history where one guy made more points than that. Though, Bryant also does hold the record for most-points-scored-in-a-game-by-someone-who’s-not-Wilt-Chamberlain,...

Classic Plot Devices Ruined By Modern Life
Image
From what we understand, writing a movie or sitcom back in the day was basically a paint-by-numbers operation. You plug in some stock characters, give them a roadblock, throw in a complication or two and cash your paycheck made of cocaine. That’s a lot harder to do nowadays, and not just because cocaine has become so unfashionable. The facts of modern life have simply rendered a lot of classic plot devices obsolete.

5 Phones

The complexities of the telephone were all but a weekly feature in the storylines of sitcoms until about 2005. Siblings fighting over its use, members of multi-phone households listening in on each other’s conversations, the comical limitations of the corded telephone — all solved by Steve Jobs. There are entire episodes of Seinfeld that never happen if they have mobile phones.

4 Getting Lost

Every road trip episode or movie would inevitably find our heroes on the side of the road,...

How Much Did Disney Make From Buying Star Wars And Marvel?
Image
When Bob Iger became the CEO of the Walt Disney Company in 2006, he defined his tenure early on. It wasn't through any specific films or new theme parks or attractions, but through an acquisition: He immediately set to work with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter on not only ironing over the previous tensions between Pixar Animation Studios and Iger's predecessor, Michael Eisner, but to also purchase the company. By 2006, Pixar had become an official part of the Walt Disney empire, not just a beloved studio that had essentially been contracted to make a few films.

Iger would further cement his own brand as the House of Mouse's CEO by engineering the purchases of both Lucasfilm and Marvel in the early 2010s. At the time, buying Marvel made a heap of sense. By that point, the House of Ideas had only barely become a serious force in filmmaking thanks to the...
