  • She was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1946 King's Birthday Honours List for her services to the Merchant Navy during World War II.
  • Popular comedienne of stage and screen, initially in music hall and pantomime. First West End success in 'Words and Music' at the age of 27. Broadway debut in 1936 in the revue 'Lights Up!'. Wartime radio work voicing 'Shipmates Ashore' for the Merchant Navy and consequently awarded an MBE. Member of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1963. Still acted on stage at the London Palladium at the age of 87. Best known on screen as Mrs. Butler in 'On the Buses'.
  • Stage debut aged three in a portable theatre operated by her parents in Bargoed, South Wales.
  • Older sister of Bertie Hare. Their parents and sisters, Betty Hare and Winifred Braemar were also performers.
  • She is survived by two daughters.
  • On stage from the age of 6.
  • Had 4 brothers and a sister all of whom spent their childhood on stage guided by their mother,.
  • Did a one woman show Times Remembered about her life on stage.
  • She retired in 1995 at the age of 90, having spent her entire life in full employment.
