For him, cinema is a vital source of motivation, his own pivotal life project. Embracing the art of cinema has become a defining purpose in his life.
Tristan was born in Switzerland in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a small town in the canton of Neuchâtel, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its "watchmaking urbanism." In 1984 he immigrated to Quebec.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies, Tristan decided to study the art of acting to become a better director. In 2000, he graduated from the Montreal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
In 2005, he was accepted as one of twenty-nine directors to attend the American Film Institute Conservatory in Hollywood where he received classes from Bertrand Tavernier, Cédric Klapish, Jan Kounen, Gavin Hood, Craig Brewer, Janusz Kaminsky, Emmanuel Lubeski, Allen Daviau, John Toll, Gill Denis....
Upon his return to Quebec, he directed 6 feature films for television as well as numerous short films, music videos, commercials and video games.
In addition to having toured the world in festivals and having won the grand prize for best youth feature film in the Czech Republic, The Fall Of Sparta, his first film as an auteur, was nominated in 4 categories at the "Prix Iris" in Quebec.
