Documentary In The Works On Entertainment Icon Doris Day, Who Became Hollywood’s Biggest Box Office Draw
Image
Exclusive: Production is underway on a documentary about entertainer Doris Day, one of the greatest stars in Hollywood history.

With Love, Doris!, from director-producer C.J. Wallis, producer Jim Dunlap and producer Mallory Kennedy, is built around never-before-heard audio tapes of Day responding to letters from fans. Day dictated her responses over the phone to her longtime assistant, Judy Ruby; Ruby then transcribed the tapes and sent them back to the star for revision and signature before the letters were mailed to fans. Ruby shared the recordings with Dunlap after Doris Day’s passing in 2019 at the age of 97.

“What an honor to be the keeper of this precious piece of Hollywood history,” said Dunlap. “I’m thrilled to finally get to share a side of Doris that few people knew,...

George Clooney's Favorite Movie Of All Time Is A Classic Satire
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

George Clooney might seem like a fun-loving sort, but he is a man who takes his movie stardom seriously. Yes, he's a notorious practical joker who once affixed a frame to Brad Pitt's license plate that read "F*** Cops," but, really, when he's not trying to get his "Ocean's Eleven" co-star arrested, he cares deeply about his craft. If you doubt this, you should perhaps read the book "George Clooney: Anatomy of an Actor," which examines ten of his most significant film performances in some detail — and, yes, I am just recommending this book because I wrote it.

Though Clooney does come from a long line of entertainers, most prominent among them his aunt Rosemary Clooney, he's more than earned his A-list stature. After struggling throughout the 1980s by appearing in past-their-prime sitcoms ("The Facts of Life") and literally...

George Clooney almost had second thoughts about pranking Brad Pitt after the latter pulled an epic prank on his Wolfs co-star. Clooney revealed that it was the best prank ever played on him, while some of his co-stars remembered him being mad as hell. Clooney and Pitt made the sets of the Ocean’s movies vibrant with their playful nature.

The Greatest Biopic of All Time Is Totally Phony (That’s Why It’s Great)
Image
George Clooney could make a Chuck E. Cheese ad look urbane. But for all his directorial projects delving into the intricacies of Middle East geopolitics and journalistic ethics, his most watchable film to date is about a washed-up game show host. It so happens that his best film, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, is also his directorial debut.

The first line by our protagonist, Chuck Barris, sets the tone, a muttering Sam Rockwell declaring, “When you're young, your potential is infinite, you might do anything,” immediately amended to add that your potential has an expiration date. By the '80s, Barris certainly reached his low point professionally. If there is one believable part of this very implausible movie, it is his depression and self-loathing, Barris reinterpreting his life as a spoof of a John le Carré spy novel.

Clooney had sentimental reasons for signing o. The actor-turned-director had grown up on '70s game-show sets,...

Kennedy Center Honors: George Clooney, U2, Gladys Knight And Others Feted On A Bipartisan Night – With Some Reminders Of Maga And Donald Trump
Image
Guest after guest at the Kennedy Center Honors told reporters of the spirit of bipartisanship at the ceremony, what with the presence of President Joe Biden, Chief Justice John Roberts and congressional leaders of both parties.

But throughout the evening there still were reminders of the darker aspects of where politics has gone in recent years: Sacha Baron Cohen’s tribute to U2 was actually a satire on the extent to which anti-semitism has reemerged in discourse and threat, while the appearance of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, was greeted with a standing ovation for his recovery. He survived a brutal attack by an intruder at their San Francisco home, in what police say was the suspect’s attempt to harm his wife.

George Clooney's Good Night And Good Luck Is Is Becoming A TV Series
Image
Edward R. Murrow once warned of television, "This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and even it can inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise, it's nothing but wires and lights in a box." If he were alive today, well, he'd be talking about a rectangle for starters. He'd also, most likely, be utterly devastated at the state of journalism in America.

17 years ago, George Clooney brilliantly restaged a precarious moment in U.S. history with "Good Night, and Good Luck." This was the tale of Murrow and his CBS News producer Fred Friendly, who laid their professional lives on the line to take on the fascist, red-baiting bully that was Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy. While McCarthy and his media attack dogs like Jack O'Brien brazenly accused CBS reporter Don Hollenbeck of being a pinko commie,...

Last year’s AFI Life Achievement Award winner Diane Keaton cooed over George Clooney’s 18-year relationship with a pig. Laura Dern recalled being stranded in Budapest on their first movie, the never-released “Grizzly II: The Predator,” waiting for plane tickets home. Julianna Margulies thanked Clooney, who just turned 57, for tipping her that her “E.R.” character tested well enough to possibly come back to life, something she did not hear from her own agent.

“You’re the real deal,” she said, choking up, reminding the black-tie crowd that “E.R” arrived after 13 failed pilots. “The most important lessons I learned in this town I learned from George.” Richard Kind described George’s foundation as “the boys,” a motley crew that has hung together for three decades and were led by Clooney — before “E.R.” hit — to spend three days cleaning up East L.A. after the riots.

George Clooney Receives 46th AFI Life Achievement Award In A Night Where Wife Amal Stole The Show
George Clooney
Presenter of the 46th Annual American Film Institute Life Achievement Award Shirley MacLaine told recipient George Clooney on Thursday night at the Dolby Theatre gala that ,yes, maybe he was too young to get a “lifetime achievement award” but that she observed he was a very “old soul” so it was okay. As someone who has purported to have several lifetimes of achievement (including the 2012 AFI Honor) we should listen to her.

Clooney just turned 57 last month but he is more than deserving having already packed an impressive career on TV and in movies in this lifetime , but also becoming one of our great humanitarians engaging the philosophy that one of the evening’s on- stage participants Don Cheadle reiterated, “if they are going to put the cameras on me, I am going to put the cameras on them” referring to those far less fortunate suffering in Sudan and around the world.

Exploring the world of live TV episodes
David Baldwin Jun 22, 2017

From ER to 30 Rock, EastEnders to The Simpsons, live TV drama and comedy episodes are here to stay...

In 1997, the Us TV network NBC gave permission for its highest rated show, the global medical drama hit ER, to produce an episode that would be broadcast to audiences completely live.

See related Poldark series 3 episode 2 review Poldark series 3 episode 1 review Poldark: a beginners’ guide

It’s hard to explain just how completely out of nowhere that decision was at the time. Live broadcasts began as a cornerstone of television, but once videotape came into use in the late 1950s, it was gradually confined to news bulletins and talent contests. By the 1990s, any comedy or drama that produced a live episode was usually perceived as a show suffering from flagging ratings or creative jaundice, one in dire need of an attention grabbing gimmick.

Let’s be clear – ER was none of those things.

'Theory of Everything' writer to tackle George Clooney’s phone hacking scandal docudrama
Writer Anthony McCarten is having a very good year. The playwright and novelist spent ten years writing “The Theory of Everything,” developing Jane Hawking’s book ”Travelling to Infinity" into 2014’s critically acclaimed biopic. Festival and academy screening reactions suggest McCarten could see his first Oscar-nomination in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. And with its limited release imminent, the writer has found a follow-up to sink his teeth into project. He’ll collaborate with George Clooney on his next directorial effort. Deadline reports that McCarten is in talks to adapt Nick Davies’s “Hack Attack,” a non-fiction account of writer The Guardian’s investigation that led to the 2011 News International phone-hacking scandal. As he picked apart the hacking history of British tabloid News of the World, revealing celebrities, politicians, royalty, and policemen as targets, Davies’ discovery of that murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler was one of the victims pushed the scandal into public investigation territory.
