One of the most rewarding examples of movie magic, stunts represent cinema at its most visceral. Performers have been executing stunts on screen from the very beginning. Edwin S. Porter's 1903 film "The Great Train Robbery," one of cinema's earliest smash hits, includes numerous stunts throughout its 13-minute runtime, including shootouts, explosions, fight scenes, and horseback riding. Though CGI and special effects have become quite advanced since then, the best 21st-century action scenes are still those that employ practical effects and boots-on-the-ground stunt work.

The lineage of modern stunt performances can be traced back 100 years. Comedians Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton pioneered daredevil stunt work during the silent era. Historical epics and westerns incited shock and awe in the 1940s and 1950s. The New American Cinema films of the 1970s portrayed gritty action, while Hong Kong cinema exploded in popularity in the 1980s thanks to performers like Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh.

I don’t think anyone would argue that the 1980s were the heyday of action movies. Sure, there were action heroes in the sixties and seventies—great ones like Sean Connery, Steve McQueen, and Clint Eastwood—but in the eighties they were larger than life. This was the era of Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and so many more.

Yet, the action genre seems to be dying out. Sure, there are still good action movies being made, with amazing folks like Bob Odenkirk, Jason Statham, Keanu Reeves, Liam Neeson, and Charlize Theron carrying the torch. But the movies are on a smaller canvas in a lot of ways than they used to be—not for lack of trying.

The creators of Netflix's hit series Wednesday recently revealed their plans for an exciting new Addams Family movie. It comes with a catch though, as the film won't be made in collaboration with Netflix.

According to Deadline, Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are working on a new animated Addams Family movie with Amazon MGM Studios. It is reportedly a complete reboot, not at all associated with the Netflix series starring Jenna Ortega or previous animated films. "We're working on it with Amazon MGM and with Kevin Miserocchi, who runs the Addams Foundation," Gough revealed. "He knew Charles Addams and the keeper of the Addams flame, and with Gail Berman and John Glickman."

"We’re rebooting the animated film franchise. So it won't have anything to do with the two films before it, nor is it connected with this show," he continued. "It will be a brand-new Addams feature.

On Friday (August 1), it was announced that the 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress and the 45-year-old Magic Mike star will be starring in the new family comedy flick titled Dance Parents.

Along with starring in the project, Charlize and Channing will also both be producing the movie, according to Deadline.
