A poignant snapshot of a story, which sees a couple return to their place of origin, and get embroiled with an odious leach Arnold.

Edward Hardwicke is incredibly likeable and perfectly cast as Hugh, he is so well contrasted against the loathsome duo of Janet Suzman and Richard Johnson.

It's not exactly a mystery, but it's a fascinating character study, it may seem simple but it's very deep with lots going on, deep passions, longing and deep hatred. It is a mystery, just not a murder mystery.

As a drama it is hugely effective, it makes you feel all sorts, frustration, hatred and pity, I feel absolute pity for Hardwicke's character, I feel utter loathing for Cecily and Arnold.

I couldn't watch it frequently, as it is a frustrating watch, but it's well made. 8/10
