Founded in 1975 by George Lucas, ILM is the leading effects facility in the world, serving the motion picture, commercial production, and attraction industries. ILM has created visual effects for over 500 feature films and television projects, has played a key role in seven of the top 10 worldwide box-office hits of all time and has contributed to 25 of the top 50.
ILM has set the standard for visual effects, creating some of the most stunning images in the history of film. At the forefront of the digital revolution, the company continues to break new ground in visual effects for film, television, streaming, themed attractions, VR, AR, and Immersive Entertainment.
The company has been awarded 16 Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects and has received 38 Academy Awards for Scientific and Technical Achievement.
ILM planted roots in Vancouver in 2012, and in 2025, the company moved into The Stack–Canada’s first commercial high-rise office tower known for its future-forward office environment. The studio continues to expand to meet the growing demand and seeks to employ top talent in the business to work on film and television projects. The Vancouver studio has led numerous efforts for ILM, including the studio’s visual effects contributions to films such as TRON: Ares, Frankenstein, Wicked, Good Night Oppy, and Twisters, and television series such as The Sandman, The Mandalorian, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, to name a few.
ILM’s Vancouver office is on the territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. As a community of visual storytellers operating on territory where rich artistic traditions have been passed down over generations, we endeavor to participate in reconciliation. With appreciation and respect, we thank the Indigenous peoples who have lived and worked on these territories from time immemorial.
ILM opened its London studio in 2014 with Creative Director, Ben Morris, and Executive in Charge of Production, Sue Lyster, at the helm. With increasing numbers of blockbuster films shooting in the U.K., the London studio was a natural step in ILM’s global expansion.
The London studio has hubbed an array of feature film and television projects for the company such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Midnight Sky, The Martian, Life, and Jurassic World: Dominion on the film side, and Lost Ollie, Brave New World, The Stand,Dollface, Krypton, and Andor to name a few.
In July of 2019, Industrial Light & Magic opened its studio in Sydney Australia. The studio offers a complete slate of visual effects services and works in conjunction with the company’s other studios in San Francisco, Vancouver, London, and Mumbai. The Sydney studio is currently recruiting an array of talent for a variety of roles and openings can be found on the studio careers page.

In October of 2022, Industrial Light & Magic opened its studio in Mumbai, India. The studio offers ILM’s full pipeline of visual effects and animation services and works in conjunction with the company’s other studios in San Francisco, London, Vancouver, and Sydney.
