The Host of ‘Tis the Grinch Holiday Podcast

James Austin Johnson shares about his role as one of Dr. Suess’ most iconic characters.

By Spenser Mestel

Johnson, who you know and love from Saturday Night Live, says he was particularly drawn to the show because he can reach an entirely new audience. “I do political comedy, and I do voices on Adult Swim shows,” he says. “But there’s not a whole lot I do that really speaks to young kids and families, even though that’s a huge part of my personal life.”

Netflix’s NFL Test

The first NFL games on Netflix brought in big audiences for the streamer — and the biggest ever for a streaming NFL matchup. But they came up short of the audience for last year’s Yuletide contests that ran on broadcast networks. Netflix’s two games averaged 24.2 million viewers, according to Nielsen fast national ratings. The early afternoon matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers posted 24.1 million viewers, and the Baltimore Ravens’ win over the Houston Texans came in at 24.3 million.

DATA SPOTLIGHT

Paramount Hits Nine-Month High in Share of TV Viewing

The combination of the NFL, college football and Yellowstone helped Paramount record its biggest share of TV usage in nine months. Nielsen‘s Media Distributor Gauge for November shows Paramount outlets responsible for 9.3 percent of TV viewing in the United States, the company’s highest mark since February, when CBS aired the Super Bowl. It improved from 8.7 percent in October and moved ahead of NBCUniversal into third place among TV distributors for the month.
