Tim Hennessy wins NCHC's Media Excellence Award

Hennessy has called UND hockey games on the radio for 45 seasons.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — UND radio play-by-play announcer Tim Hennessy won the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Media Excellence Award on Thursday.

Hennessy, who has called UND hockey games on the radio for 45 seasons, was presented a plaque by associate commissioner Michael Weisman at the annual NCHC Awards Celebration at St. Paul Event Center.

Hennessy is the second radio announcer to earn the honor since the league began handing out the Media Excellence Award in 2018.

Minnesota Duluth play-by-play announcer Bruce Ciskie and Miami play-by-play announcer Greg Waddell were the other finalists.

Hennessy has called UND hockey games through 16 conference championships, 16 NCAA Frozen Fours, 10 league playoff titles and six NCAA national championships.

Hennessy also won the North Dakota Sports Broadcaster of the Year award this year.

Schlossman has covered college hockey for the Grand Forks Herald since 2005. He has been recognized by the Associated Press Sports Editors as the top beat writer for the Herald's circulation division four times and the North Dakota sportswriter of the year twice.
