‘The Morning Show’ Season 4: Jeremy Irons joins cast in key role

The Morning Show” is about to get a lot more louche.

Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s hit drama series for Season 4, the streaming service announced Tuesday.

Irons will play Martin Levy, the father of Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston). According to TVLine, the character is described as “a charming, sharp, deep-thinking man with a sense of humor. And, in what has probably not been super fun for Alex her entire life, Martin pulls no emotional punches.” In other words, a perfect role for Jeremy Irons. He is expected to appear in approximately six episodes of Season 4.

Irons is the second Academy Award winner recently added to the cast of “The Morning Show;” Marion Cotillard is joining the series as a French businesswoman named Celine Dumont. Before Irons was cast, it was reported Oscar winner Kevin Kline had been approached for the part as well.

Season 4 will pick up after a deal to sell TV network UBA to tech company Hyperion collapsed, and now a merger with rival network NBN looms.

Aniston and Reese Witherspoon lead the cast of “The Morning Show” as anchors Alex Levy and Bradley Jackson; they also serve as executive producers. The cast also includes Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Jon Hamm, and Nicole Beharie. Kerry Ehrin is the showrunner.

The Morning Show is Apple TV+’s longest-running and most-watched series. It was nominated for 10 Emmys in its first two seasons and won one, Best Drama Supporting Actor for Billy Crudup in Season 1. It is expected to earn its first nomination for Best Drama Series this year.

Irons is an Oscar, Emmy, Tony, SAG, and Golden Globe winner. He is best known for films including “Dead Ringers,” “Reversal of Fortune,” and “The Lion King.” His TV credits include “The Borgias,” “Watchmen,” and the upcoming limited series adaptation of “The Count of Monte Cristo.”
