Fundraising for teachers

Get up to $500 from GoFundMe.org

We’re committed to helping teachers lower out-of-pocket expenses—whether you’re planning a field trip, restocking classroom supplies, or upgrading to a smart board. GoFundMe.org is giving out grants of up to $500 to help you do what you do best.

All right, teachers. Here’s how to earn a grant:

1. Start a GoFundMe

You can start a GoFundMe in just a few minutes for anything that will help your students succeed this year. More calculators, a new smart whiteboard, snacks—you know your classroom best.

2. Add #GoFundMeTeacher

To be considered for a grant, simply include the hashtag #GoFundMeTeacher in your fundraiser description. That’s it! We made it easy because we really want to help.

3. Share your fundraiser

Sharing your fundraiser online and offline can help it be seen by more potential donors. Once your fundraiser is up and running, check out our Insider Guide for tips and inspiration.

4. Get your grant

If you are chosen as a recipient, the grant will be issued as a donation directly to your fundraiser. You will be notified via email if you’ve been selected.

Frequently asked questions

What can teachers fundraise for?

Teachers and PTAs can crowdfund for almost anything on GoFundMe. Some of the most common needs include school supplies, books or other learning materials, class decorations, field trips and other experiences, playground equipment, updated technology, and snacks for students. For fundraising tips and more inspiration, check out our Insider Guide.

Is there a fee to start a GoFundMe?

We do not charge organizers a fee to start or manage a fundraiser on GoFundMe. The only fee on GoFundMe is a small transaction fee (2.9% + $0.30 per donation) which is automatically deducted per donation. For more information, visit our Pricing and Fees page.

Why should I fundraise on GoFundMe?

  • GoFundMe.org may grant eligible teachers up to $500 toward their cause. The money will be contributed directly to your fundraiser before it reaches its goal.
  • GoFundMe does not have any deadlines or time restrictions. Organizers can withdraw funds at any time.
  • With GoFundMe, you can post updates to be shared with supporters. This allows teachers to request donations as new classroom needs arise.

Can I fundraise for my teacher?

Yes! If you would like to start a GoFundMe for a teacher, we certainly encourage that. Also, we love that level of kindness. However, only teachers who start fundraisers will be considered for the $500 grant from GoFundMe.org.

How do the GoFundMe.org grants work?

GoFundMe.org uses donations from the Education Opportunity Fund to issue grants of up to $500 to teachers fundraising on GoFundMe.

If you’re a teacher fundraising to support your classroom and want to be considered for a grant, add #GoFundMeTeacher to your fundraiser description. The GoFundMe.org team will then review your fundraiser. If you qualify to receive the grant, it will be issued as a donation directly to your fundraiser.
