PyGObject is a valuable tool for creating advanced GUI applications in Linux. It allows developers to create visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces while leveraging the power of the GObject system to manage memory and other resources efficiently.
What is GUI in Linux?
A graphical user interface (GUI) program is one that is created with graphical elements such as windows, menus, dialogue boxes, and user-friendly features. When you assemble a graphical user interface program, an executable file with start-up code is produced.
Creating Advance GUI Applications in Linux
PyGObject in Python is the most efficient approach to creating a GUI application in Linux. PyGObject is the next version of Python's PyGTK library; we can define PyGObject as Python + GTK3.
Step 1: Open your Glade designer
From the programs menu, launch your Glade Designer. It includes packages for a variety of software programs and libraries, including the GTK stack.
Step 2: Search GtkWindows and Merge It
GtkWindows are commonly used to show program windows, dialogue boxes, and other UI components. Go to the top level and search for GtkWindows, and merge it carefully.
Step 3: Select GtkButtonBox from the containers
GtkButtonBox is a GTK toolkit container widget meant to hold push buttons and organize them in a specific arrangement. It allows you to group buttons together, arrange them either vertically or horizontally, and select the amount of space below them. On your glade application, click on the container, search for GtkButtonBox, and apply it.
Step 4: Add GtkBox to your Glade
Click and drag the "Box" widget from the left-hand panel's "Containers" section onto your design canvas. When asked, choose 3 as input the number of boxes you want to add in GtkBox. Go to properties and click on general.
Step 5: Change Orientation from vertical to horizontal
In the right-hand panel, under the "Common" tab, you should see a property called "Orientation". By default, it is set to "Vertical". To change the orientation to horizontal, simply click on the dropdown menu next to "Orientation" and select "Horizontal" from the options, switch the orientation type from vertical to horizontal, and click the box widget again in GtkBox.
Step 6: Add "Text Entry," "Combo Box Text," and "Button" widgets
Open your Glade project and select the GtkBox widget where you want to add the new widgets. To add a combo box text widget, return to "Widgets" and choose "Combo Box Text" before dragging it onto the GtkBox. "Combo Box Text" and "Button" widgets for each of the boxes, you have to first go to GtkWindows and then GtkButton Section.
Step 7: Change the "window2" widget's location
Open your Glade project and select the GtkBox widget where you want to add the new widgets. Change the "window2" widget's location to get this go to the right side, and you will see the General option.
Step 8: Change the default height & width
Default height & width for the application to change the height and width, go to settings and click on common and then Widget Spacing. And also, change Margins to Top =300 and Bottom = 50.
Step 9: Click the text entry widget
You can start typing text into the widget, and any input will be shown. You may also use the keyboard to navigate within the widget, such as moving the pointer within the text using the arrow keys or selecting and editing text with keyboard shortcuts. To add a text entry widget go to go to the "Signals" tab in the right sidebar and click on it.
Step 10: Give the file to execute the permission
With the cd command, navigate to the directory containing the file. For instance, if your file is in the /home/user/Documents/ directory, you may access it by typing. Give the file to execute the permission and save it with the name "myprogram.py" in your home directory before running it.
