Mimecast is pretty straightforward to set up, yes absolutely it's a technical platform but it still ticks a lot of boxes. We were getting really hammered by standard end-user email platforms sending numerous emails spoofing our CEO and it got to the point that we were concerned that we only had to have one of those phishing emails hit hard for our reputation to be very hurt. We opted for Mimecast and boom - no more silly emails. We also send many outbound emails via Amazon SES and Mimecast is brilliant at accommodating this for us, so it honestly ticks so many boxes and maintains security.
A quick note on onboarding and support, for years I've used Mimecast and have always been really delighted with the technical and interpersonal skills of their engineers. Really brilliant service all round, and prompt responses whenever I need a guiding hand for configuring stuff or something doesn't quite click in my head and needs explaining. We opted for the Mega-Plan and it integrates pretty well, it does need a few Azure Enterprise Apps to be plugged in to work. A few minutes work, not a massive biggie. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The great thing about Mimecast Advanced Email Security is that it works. Virus screening, spam screening, targeted threat protection and even phishing awareness - all of this works, with a relatively control panel that is easy to use. Implementation is relatively simple, as is integration with our on-premise Exchange server. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The performance can be somewhat lacking, and over the past year or so, Mimecast have faced a number of issues outside of their control. Spam activity from customers who are sending out bulk mail have resulted in our own emails being rejected by spam-blacklists, but Mimecast customer support have been responsive and helpful in thos einstances. Our more frequent users have also had problems with TTP enrolment, another issue outside of Mimecasts's control, but one that has led to some of my more senior users complaining about the service. I really like how robust the security features are. The tools always meet the current and upcoming email security requirements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The admin console GUI seems very outdated. There is also no mobile app for quick admin tasks e.g. releasing an email or sandboxing an attachment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the ease of knowing that potential and known malicious e-mails are stopped from being delivered to the end user. Easy to use and give a lot of insight into the threats that are part of your e-mail attack surface. For the most part the implementation is easy, until you need to configure specific rules and policies that are specific to an organization. We use it daily to look at the held e-mails and review what is undeliverable via the rules and policies. Easily integrates with M365. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The downside is the support is a little offputting, if you are past your implementation phase. Some of the rule and policies are hard to configure through implementation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Good support for SAAS is imperative, and Mimecast support exceeds that in the experience we have had. The feature we use are reliable and we see new features added regularly. Any issues in service is met with thorough and timely information as well as there being almost no interruption in services provided in three years. The products we use are completely configurable for our needs and there seems to be no shortage in customization to meet requirements we have seen. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The learning curve for some of the features we use requires a call to support to fully understand. This is not a problem, more of a struggle for me to find something I dislike. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
With the guided help of an implemenation engineer, Mimecast Advanced Email Security was hassle free to implement along side of O365. The product has a seemingly endless array of products and services all of which work just as well as the next. Mimecast enabled us to remove our old non-functional email security product taking us to a new strength of email security. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There isn't really much to dislike about the product. It's simple to operate even for a non IT user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The security gateway is a very robust and highly customizable solution. Once you have it up and running it functions quite well and does a good job of stopping threats. It layers well with Google Workspaces, once you have it up and running.
Users find the security awareness training videos quite enterntaining and the short format helps with compliance.
Users find it fairly easy to self service their quarrantines after a little training, saving on admin work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Support is knowledgable but I get the impression they are very overtaxed. The onboarding process was a slog, we purchased the integration assistance, but it took weeks for our implementation specialist to acutally reach out to us, by that time we had already started configuring the product ourselves. I would strongly recommend purchasing the implementation assistance, especially if you plan to use this with Google Workspaces. It's a rather involved process and you're going to have a bad time if (when) something goes wrong as the implementation docs are rather terse.
The product also requires quite a lot of fine tuning and adjustment in the first few weeks, so expect some degree of complaints from your users. Again, having the assistance of the implementation specialist is key here otherwise you'll need to deal with T1 support which is not always the most helpful or responsive.
The SAT dashboards are pretty but a bit sparse. Getting simple information like a list of non-compliant users is more work than it should be.
Google Workspace integration is also a little bare-bones. It would be nice for users to be able to report messages via the Gmail interface instead of the Mimecast portal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Mimecast advanced email Security gives me peace of mind knowing that our associate's mailboxes are protected against malicious email threats and attempts to disrupt our business. Having email filtering, encryption and archiving all in one solution just makes sense. Mimecast support and account managers have always taken care of us to ensure our solution is configured and functioning as intended. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Admittingly, it's not the easiest solution to manage, but the more time you spend in it the easier it is to administer and understand for a system as complex as it is. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the granularity and control you can have via the many definitions and policies that are possible. Policies are generally easy to implement themselves and the documentation and tools tips are very useful. Mimecast offer a quarterly health check to ensure that the config still meets best practices and to advise if any new features have been released since the last review. Support from the customer success manager is great and also when logging tickets with main support team, I have always found responses to be insightful and not simply, just read this KB (though of course, KBs are referenced). Whilst there are many different policies that can be implemented, it can be tricky to know which ones you maybe should be implementing and those which are more niche. Perhaps filtering them in this kind of way would be useful. I know policies will differ between companies, but I suspect most would at least want a consistent best practice baseline to begin with and then tweak as they move forward. Additionally, whilst you can give policies a "narrative" to define what that policy is for, I would like to see a description field to be able to write more information. For example, you can have bypass rules for specific IPs, but its not easy to document whose IPs those are, so you end up with potentially multiple IP bypass rules so you can name each one, whereas if there was a description field, you could possible have just a single IP bypass rule. Low levels of spam and phishning emails reaching users inboxes. The link scanning and reporting provides good security and visability of users actions to inform training. Reliability and uptime is as you would expect for a business critial system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The Outlook client plugin requires logging into each time it is used (including two factor authentication)meaning that usr adoption is low. This has been raised and is more related to the way Outlook works and is not specific to Mimecast but still limits its usefulness. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the visibility that Mimecast gives you, the message tracking and monitoring toolin within the platform is really straight fowards and easy to use. The ability to inspect an individual email to its core, the ability to customise and create so may different policies such as impersonation protection policy. The UI isn't as intuitive and takes some time to be able to navigate to the correct area. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Easy to use and user friendly, I can navigate through functions fairly easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
1. The data history available to user is not long enough, I believe I can only see up to 1 month.
2. Some features are not descriptive enough, it would be good to have a '?' by certain functions which provides explaination. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Mimecast for email security is one of the greatest product for email security. It comes with inbuild AI feature that helps to detect and stop malicious emails including phishing link and malicious PDF or other file extensions. It has a lot of customizable feature like you can set the policies as per your business need.
It has a very smart feature of spam score, with this you can see that an email is how much malicious and with this score, you can hold the email for review and then release as per your need.
It iks very easy to use and understand at an email secuirity admion level. You can set policies as per your requirements.
They have a very good customer support and engineers who can help you to resolve your queries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Generally they failed to detect zero-day attacks and their ebgineers always failed to provide the RCA of a problem at depth level. They need to improve their AI models. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Simplicity, administration and user interface. Customer support is always positive with the sucess team and technical areas. The system is used daily by the support desk as well as our infrastrucutre team - and of course our users. Search capability is great, reducing cache in outlook. Secure Send and Large File attachments are great features too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Overall the product is great. Cybergraph and Missaddressed email can be hit and miss and needs more investment to fine tune missaddressed email. If it's not improved over the next 12 months or so, we may look at removing this service for another provider. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Ease of implementation and use are what I like best about Mimecast, especially compared to products I have used previously. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Granular security settings can sometimes be difficult to find within the console. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

One of the standout features of Mimecast Advanced Email Security is its comprehensive protection against a wide range of email-borne threats. Whether it's phishing attempts, malware, ransomware, or spear-phishing attacks, Mimecast's multi-layered defense mechanisms provide robust protection for our organization's email communications. Additionally, Mimecast's threat intelligence and real-time monitoring capabilities offer proactive detection and mitigation of emerging threats, ensuring that our email environment remains secure at all times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
While Mimecast Advanced Email Security offers impressive protection, one aspect that could be improved is its user interface. While functional, it can feel a bit clunky and unintuitive at times, especially when navigating through various settings and configurations. Streamlining the user experience and making it more intuitive would enhance usability and make managing the system more efficient for administrators. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The level of detail you can go to when defining policies. You can be very specific about what you want to block or filter. Depending on your package you have a lot of features on hand, be sure to get to know what is what and how you can overlap/layer the policies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The complexity is great on one hand, but it can be a little tricky to navigate through all of the policy settings and menus on the portal. It's essential you have some form of on-boarding consultancy when setting up, as it's too detailed to just pick up and run with. You want to get it right. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Mimecast's offering has a solution for just about any need. There is a vast number of configuration options available to make this fit your organization. What really sets them apart is their top notch support. When you have a question or need configuration support you can usually find the answer you're looking for in their robust documentation. Even better though is their support staff. You can call and get the answer you need first try from the first agent you speak to. They are always knowledgable and eager to help you with whatever you're working on fixing, investigating, or configuring. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Their user interface in the admin portal sometimes feels dated and not intuitive. Once you get the hang of "Mimecast's way" of doing things it's no problem but there is a learning curve to their tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Very flexible, many option to fine tune to your needs. Very documented. Great community and customer support. Once you get around and understand it become clear how to manage it. Only a few steps to implement this tool. Can implement to outlook with additional features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Can be overwhelming for new comers. Definitely need a training before jumping onboard and managing this great tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
the completeness of the solution to cover all bases in terms of email threats ranging from phishing links, malware attachments to email sender reputation scoring Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
nothing in particular, while there is always more maturity possible Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The flexibility to use it how we want to is great. It offers us a wide range of options to control our incoming (and outgoing if we so choose) emails. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The interface could use a bit of help. Sometimes they move things and make them more difficult to find. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The best part about Mimecast is its expertise and years of experience in the domain of email security.
It also bundles many more features along with the email security
It will help you to get the many global compliances done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is nothing as such to dislike about Mimecast apart from they take a good amount for the support, even for the basic one that should be free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
