Two things I like the best:
Employee self-service: one of the great features is the employee self-service portal, allowing employees to access and update their information, request time off, and view their benefits. This reduces the administrative burden and empowers employees to manage their own data.
Onboarding and offboarding automation: BambooHR offer the ability yo automate both onboarding and offboarding processes. For onboarding, it provides customizable checklists, welcome emails, and automated task assignments to ensure new hires have a smooth start. Offboarding is equally streamlined with automated notifications, task tracking, and exit surveys to manage employee transitions effectively.

Custom approval flows: BambooHR lacks advanced customization options for approval workflows. We have a pretty unusual approval hierarchy and we find the default settings insufficient for our needs, as the software does not allow for extensive customization of approval processes.
Accrual of vacation days: the tool's handling of vacation day accruals can be restrictive, especially in countries with unique accrual rules. For example, in Croatia, employees start accruing vacation days during the first six months (prorated) and then receive the full number of days afterward. Preparing reports can be challenging without experience, and it takes time to understand how reports are generated and what data is necessary. Occasionally, we miss a report that shows salary information for a specific period (e.g., salary amounts for May 2020). This might be an area the product team is working on.

BambooHR is the most useful HRIS I have found so far, especially for a small HR team. There are so many automations of processes I used to spend hours on each week, saving me time and saving my sanity. The available training and support make it easy to use and ensures that I'm taking advantage of all the great features. We have integrated a few other systems and data transfers seamlessly. What I love most about using BambooHR is that almost everything is located/stored in one place; employee information, hiring, time off, payroll...the list goes on! It is a super user-friendly platform as well, on a computer as well as on your phone!

After almost 4 years as a loyal customer, they restructured their subscription packages moving us from top tier to mid tier and moving some of the add-on features we were paying extra for into the top tier. At that point they told us that unless we upgraded with a 75% price increase we would no longer receive upgrades to those features. The point of subscription software is that we are paying for the continual development and upgrades. It is totally not ok to force existing customers to pay monthly for legacy software.
I tried to negotiate with them and ask for some kind of compromise, like grandfathering us into top tier only for those features or perhaps a discount on top tier for a period of time. They absolutely refused to work with me, straight up refused to let me talk to a manager, insisted that I had to take the full price increase to retain updates for the features I'd already been using for years. When I told them that was a terrible way to treat a loyal customer and that I would take my business elsewhere they were fine with it. Perhaps because we are a small business, they don't see it worth their time to keep us as a customer.
I would warn everyone away from BambooHR as you can't trust the prices they tell you you'll pay. Unreliable, predatory, and awful way to treat loyal customers. BambooHR has been a great help for the HR department, now we can have all the information in one place and it's very easy to find and make reports out of it. We are still new to the platform (as a business, since us, HR, have worked with it before). And it's really making the difference in terms of organization and accesibility. BambooHR it's really easy to use, and we really appreciate the Customer Support team, they are always responsive and always helpful, we have been tranfering all of our data from our records to the system and now it's our every day HR system. Overall, BambooHR is amazing, even though I believe there is a lot of room for new feautures, more customizable filters, reports, etc. However, I am aware that BambooHR it's always improving and letting the users give feedback, so there is always that possibility that in the future they will add more features that will make the experience even better. there are no payroll reports that are useful.I have no option to create my own report with the information I need.I don’t need turnover rate, I don’t need to see all terms , I don’t need a state/federal report. these are so unessesary!Each time I call for an Employee earnings report the only option is to go in TRAX payroll and print all paystubs. This is not acceptable for the agencies requesting employee files & payroll reports. I would then need to manually create an excel and enter all their history. Again, this too is super frustrating for me. BBHR doest really understand whats really needed for payroll processing.
PTO approved after payroll has been "Open" is another inconvenience because if I approve those hours by the Notification I received it will WIPE OUT ALL PAYROLL ALREADY ENTERED!!! so again that feateure is useless and very frustrating to deal with with running payroll.
PTO hours are not correctly reflected on paystubs.
Pay stubs are 3 PAGES LONG!!! This is also useless and we are using so much more paper than before, please compress your paystubs to 1 page.
Support is a joke! each person just wants to get you off the phone and follow up in an email which never gets resloved on the first email so then your ping ponging back and forth trying to get your original issue resloved. we need to speak with someone and resolved the issue while on the phone to help the Rep. to BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS WE NEED.

Before Bamboo, we were stuck in "old business" mode and had one system for our timeclock, then another for requesting time off. Hiring, new employee onboarding, benefits administration/enrollment, training, and performance reviews were completely manual, prone to errors, and inaccessible by employees. With Bamboo, we can take care of all of this in one singular place and employees can review all of their information easily. Our employees use it frequently, and always talk about how user-friendly it is. Setting it up took very little time. It was able to be implemented and integrated easily and quickly. BambooHR has been extremely helpful in streamlining and standardizing our onboarding process and ensuring all employee information is received and documented. We've barely skimmed the surface of the available reporting but have already utilized it for evaluating wage increases, sending out performance reviews, and ensuring no employee is left out of company-wide updates.
Having an assigned implementation partner was extremely helpful and made onboarding smooth. We were able to integrate with several of our other programs including our benefits administration portal, and have employee information automatically import.

The whole area looks clear & appealing.
It is easy to set up, join accounts together for multiple users, staff never have any problems with it & there is never any outage / technical issue overall.
It can be used on a computer, ipad, phone, laptop etc.
It is usually easy to modify settings & update things & there are never days where things are loading, unavailable or in progress.

Some sections are quite inflexible, especially with the basic packages. For example, there is no easy way to block time off in the calendar for everyone, so you have to manually create an "event" for that day to avoid people booking time off on mandatory training days etc.
Customer support is great, but if you don't live in the USA, it is more difficult with the time zones & lack of a phone number in your country, so it becomes an email-only scenario.
Automatic security log-out tends to be too quick, but otherwise a useful feature: setting the time-out period would be helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are several things I like about BambooHR. One of them being the user-friendly interface. Navigating through the system is easy and all of the graphics and eye catching. All of the sections are clearly marked and easily accessible.
The variety of tasks that can be accomplished with BambooHR is great to have a central location for all employees to access.
PTO tracking is probably the most used feature. All hours are clearly categorized and summed up so that each employee and their managers are always aware of the amount of hours each employee has.
We also post and track job listings through Bamboo. All of the categories make it super easy to stay organized with the candidates and where they are in the review, interview and hiring process.

One area in BambooHR that is not our favorite is their Time Clock. It is nice that they offer time tracking, but their system seems a bit more limited than what we need.
Our company allows two 10 minute breaks that are paid, and BambooHR doesn't really allow us to track these properly.

The best part about BambooHR for me is the ease of use as a new HR professional, in a solo HR department. Everything is in one place, works together, and makes it super easy for employees and myself to use. On top of that, it's extremely customizable and easy to implement. Anytime I've needed help, we've gotten a response right away. I know who my sales rep is for upgrades and integrations, and can always reach out to her and know I'll get an accurate answer, quickly. They're constantly growing - which is a great thing - but also leads to frustrations with integrations, not understanding new features, and trying to get staff and employees bought in to upgrades, new features, etc... especially when the help sections don't necessarily get updated as quick as the software. As a larger customer, BambooHR struggles to stretch to meet all our needs. Our company structure and size require us to draw an invisible line between employee populations and how to manage them as such. The limitations on how drilled-down approvals can go, and the ability to replicate hard-coded workflows. For example, we need separate job change workflows, but the system cannot accommodate the need for the same workflow, for the same location go to 2 separate approval groups.
BambooHr has made some decisions on how employee data should be managed based on what they believe to be best practice and that doesn't always match how the business wants to manage the data.
The ATS, Employee Well-being, and Performance are not robust enough to serve a large organization. It does seem as though it would support a small-medium business well.
Implementation was a challenge and there was a struggle with the timeline and data. We do not fit in their standard 4-6 week implementation model and they struggled to accommodate our needs as a customer. Ultimately we found our way through it, but it was bumpy at best. It's so user-friendly as an employee and as an admin. I started using BambooHR as an employee then transitioned into a role that needed additional reporting and functionality within our HRIS. It was SO easy to learn and navigate. Within a short amount of time, I was able to build the reports I needed and get real-time data to inform decision-making. Not a dislike, but something that I'm going to better explore is integration with our ATS. I know BambooHR has robust integration options, but we haven't had capacity to explore them so I'm eager to learn more. The other thing that I want to explore (not a dislike, but something I haven't prioritized doing yet) is finding better data automation into tableau for real-time updates into our other tracking systems. Being a HR Manager for an Org that had no understanding of the benefits of utilizing an HRIS it is a excellent way to introduce a business in a way that dosn't have long term committments while also being a good price points. Pricing is based on per employee which works out really well because if you want to demo the tool with just one location or division before rolling out to the whole company you can conviently do that. BambooHR is extremely user friendly and requires no training for our employees to use the employee self-service feature. Our employees love that they can do everything within Bamboo from the time they apply, to onboarding, requesting PTO, changing their taxes, direct deposit information, etc. I like to explain BambooHR as the Apple version of HRIS. We recently switched our payroll over to Bamboo and the implementation was a breeze. The communication and expectations were clear and we had no issues with the transition (our first payroll and beyond were perfect). We intend to implement the benefit add-on tool in the near future as well. One of the feature I love the most is the customer support. Their are several options to choose from whenever I need assistance but the ability of the chat feature has been a great tool to connect instantly with a support rep. Payroll Reports arent completly integrated into the main Platform.
Payroll is limited, the more complecated the business the harder it is to run payroll.
Self service for simple options are not included, having to call customer support for simple options is time consuming, i.e. having "auto assign" employee numbers, adding "extra pay" options.
Payroll does not due multiple pay rates, holiday pay rate, or pro-rate.
Hiring from the hiring module, does not integrate into new employees pay profile what was offered in "Offer Letter".

This has been a great product to do payroll and other HR business with. Very user friendly and easy to get help from customer service when questions come up with changes to my business. No real downsides but I do wish that they would include notes field box in the "extra pay" area of bamboo so that when I add a non taxable reimbursement to an employee I could go back to see what a non taxable reimbursement was for or include a GL code or something that would help me distinguish individual nontaxable reimbursements easier. I feel like BambooHR needs someone working in HR to test the platform, there are some funcionalities that simply don't work such as I had problem for months with e-signature, a variety of problems and it still not usefull because, even after the resolution of them, because the idea would be to use the e-signature for our offers, but the candidate/new employee would be able to sign it only after finishing all the onboarding on the system and becoming an employee on the platform. Also, it is very difficult to set the e-signature fields, if you want to do that for a forms with a lot of fields, it takes a lot of hours, once if you would do with docusign it would be way faster because of the mobility. The support is also good, but I liked when we had the support through chat. Also, a suggestion would be the possibility of creating the texts in e-signature adjusting with the templates. BabmooHR does not support a Guarateed Payment for a business owner who would typically receive a K1 instead of a W2 during tax season. We were told prior to implementation that a Guaranteed Payment was supported, but come to find out after wages were taxed sometimes and not all and after months of trying to get it all reversed, we decided to remove our OWNER of our business from BambooHR payroll. This reflected onto myself, as I was the one to make this decision. The payroll team always lead us to believe they understaood exactly what a Guaranteed Payment was, but they did not...but they may know now. This platform still does not support this type of pay. I love how this platform is so user friendly, from employees to account admin. Our staff can range in tech literacy, however even the most basic mobile users are navigating the BambooHR app seamlessly with time off requests and timesheets. Previous systems we have used require a heavy coading approach from account admin, however Bamboo does that all in the background for you. Every day, any time, i am able to just click a button with my command and it produces a perfect report or function such as email reminders and signature requests. It is also great how it has the electronic signature feature, this has enabled out company to move forward in the tech space by having everything digital, no more printing employment contracts!! The only real vice is that it caters much more to the American market. However, having said that, the customer service is still very reliable and quite fast considering the time difference, and they are always suggesting imporvements or linked services that can cater to our Australian needs. BambooHR is a centralized place for all of my HRIS, benefits, payroll, HCM, recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, employee engagement, performance management needs and then some. I love how it all interacts/integrates and is extremely intuitive. Implementation was long, but very well structured which made things smooth as we went through the process. Payroll & Time Tracking don't fully integrate. We were told they did and that, after explaining the complexities associated with non-profit accounting and payroll, that we would be able to download a single report to import ot QBO. This is not the case. We have to compile 3 separate reports to get all the info we need. When we requested a meeting with Payroll Support to discuss building a single report that would take some of the workload off my plate, we were told they "don't meet with people." Not very supportive. Payroll support has also be incredibly less responsive than HR Support. We have been asking for a while if there could be an option to make Project Tracking mandatory for time-sheet entries as that would also reduce our work-load. BambooHR also appears to have messed up something during our import process which has cost of significant extra time in correcting and issing appropriate documents. Excellent for automating HR processes, as it facilitates the management of days off, incidents, vacations or any eventuality about employees.
It is also incredible to be able to perform training within the platform and keep our employees updated and prepared is something that is not seen in other platforms, document control is also easier, since Bamboo allows to have the files of each of the employees securely and easily accessible to the employee and the employer.
It is also possible to have access to the company's organization chart and calendar for consultation and thus to know the organization's time and availability of employees.
the implementation was incredibly easy, since the access and use is very intuitive for the employees, so the adaptation of its use is very fast.

It seems to me that the only feedback is that it would be great to receive reminders if for some reason managers forget or miss their team's request emails for vacation days and/or time off so they don't stay on the platform as pending for a long time, but can be reminded until the request is accepted or rejected.
