URBAN AND COLLECTIVE TRAINING SITES

All sites at Fort Indiantown Gap are designed to closely replicate conditions and effects on the battlefield to create realistic, intense, stressful, and challenging training scenarios. All of the facilities lend themselves for military use or for training law enforcement and emergency responders. Units may schedule ranges by calling one of the training professionals at FTIG Range Operations (717) 861-2152/2153 or through RFMSS.

Forward Operating Base (FOB)

In addition to preparing Soldiers for living conditions the FOB may be used to train on a variety of base security operations such as entry point control and traffic flow.

Asymmetric Threat Home Station Training Lane (AW - HSTL), Range 39

Constructed to conduct training operations within a Hybrid Threat Environment, Range 39 provides a training area in which units may learn and rehearse the individual and collective skills needed to fight and defeat Asymmetric and Near – Peer Threats. Range 39 is staffed, maintained, and facilitated by members of the Global Threat Mitigation Program (GTMP) Army National Guard (ARNG) Asymmetric Threat Training Support Program (ATTSP).

The lane consists of 2.5 miles of unimproved road network, numerous vehicles, two traffic circles, and one overpass. Several markets, a mosque, a homemade explosives laboratory, and three village complexes have been meticulously constructed to create a variety of realistic training environments during training scenarios. Additionally the lane incorporates a dismounted visual indicator lane (DIVIL), outdoor classroom, and Asymmetric Threat Petting Zoo. A variety of simulated ammunition is approved for use on site, including Short Range Training Ammunition for use during LFX.

ATTSP Staff are the Program of Record Home Station Training (HST) Team who deliver and facilitate FORSCOM Regionally Aligned Forces (RAF) Guidance mandated training in accordance with FORSCOM RAF ANNEX B. ATTSP Staff are additionally able to provide platform and field instruction at Home-Station and FTIG, PA, at no additional cost to the supported unit, on a variety of Asymmetric/Hybrid Threat Topics, Army Warrior Tasks, and Battle Drills including but not limited to; IED/HME Awareness, Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS), Counter Insurgency (COIN), Electronic Warfare (EW), Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV), Route Clearance (RC), Handheld Detectors (Hhd), Company Intelligence Support Team (CoIST), Biometric (BX), Site Exploitation (SE), Battlefield Forensics (BF), Weapons Technical Intelligence (WTI), Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Analysis, Advanced Situational Awareness Training (ASAT), and Subterranean Operations (SubTO).

This fixed training site is replicated in Virtual Battlespace 3 (VB3) and can be brought to Home-station allowing for a complete digital rehearsal prior to going live at FTIG, PA. Additional virtual training on driver training and convoy operations is available with the Common Driver Trainer (CDT) and the Operator Driver Simulator (ODS). Please see the section on Virtual Training for more details.

Structure Collapse Site

This unique site supports training for search and rescue in disaster situations. It is specially constructed to simulate the challenges that recovery crews will face in the real world. Crews can breach concrete with saws to extract victims and even rappel down a destroyed elevator shaft to seek out casualties trapped in the rubble. It's an excellent training site for Homeland Response Force teams and other emergency rescue personnel. The site incorporates all of the features that are required for collapsed structure training and has several enhancements such as school buses, silos and shafts for conducting confined space operations. Our facility is one of the largest of its kind in the nation and will provide units with unique and challenging training opportunities.

Third World Villages, TA B-09B

Simulating an economically disadvantaged community, FTIG’s three villages are constructed of modified shipping containers. They offer an ideal setting to train on urban close-combat operations like those encountered in a deployed environment. These sites have been retrofitted with realistic facades to simulate various structures such as spiritual centers, gas stations, market places, and other civic type buildings and homes, creating and allowing for realistic shoot/don’t shoot training. Bivouac areas are located nearby.
